Jon Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams cancel gigs after testing positive for COVID-19

Jon Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams have both tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the musicians to cancel their performances over the weekend.

Bon Jovi was hours away from performing in Miami when the news broke on Saturday night (October 30). Local outlet WSVN 7 News reported that fans were already inside the venue when the event, dubbed ‘Runaway With JBJ’, was canned.

Had it have gone ahead, the gig would’ve featured an acoustic, story-driven performance, Q&A session, photo-op and Halloween costume party. A representative for Bon Jovi has since told Variety that he “is fully vaccinated and feeling fine”.

The legendary singer has been a staunch supporter of COVID-19 safety measures. Last April, for example, he debuted ‘Do What You Can’, a fan-assisted song about persevering through lockdowns and industry closures.

Bon Jovi also appeared as part of Bruce Springsteen’s campaign for COVID safety in New Jersey, #MaskUpNJ. The efforts came after his bandmate, keyboardist David Bryan, tested positive for the virus last March.

Adams was due to appear at last Saturday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where he would have joined H.E.R. to perform “It’s Only Love” in honor of the newly inducted Tina Turner (with whom Adams duetted on the 1985 hit).

A representative for Adams told Billboard that he is “fully vaccinated and has no symptoms at all”. Australian indie-rocker Keith Urban filled in for Adams during the performance.

Adams had previously ranted about the coronavirus on social media, blaming it on “some fucking bat eating, wet market animal selling, virus making greedy bastards”. The singer-songwriter subsequently apologised for the incident, saying he had intended to speak out about “horrible animal cruelty” and promote veganism.

Last month, Adams announced a UK tour in support of his forthcoming 15th album, ‘So Happy It Hurts’, which is due for release in March. The run will kick off next May, with a total of 20 shows on the itinerary.

In a video for Blackened Whiskey shared via Kerrang!, Hammett and Trujillo can be seen jamming to the 1972 track in two separate locations. Trujillo can be seen performing in front of a large shelf packed with various zombie and horror masks, with a shirt resembling that of Freddy Krueger above a keyboard.

Hammett performs in front of a painting of Frankenstein’s monster wearing a knitted jumper of its likeness, with a bust and a Funko Pop Vinyl rendition of the horror icon in the background.

Recent months have seen Metallica reflecting on their legacy, as their hugely impactful ‘Black Album’ celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this year. Commemorating the occasion, the band collaborated with a smorgasbord of artists from around the world to deliver ‘The Metallica Blacklist’ – a covers album sporting different renditions of tracks taken from the 1991 album.

In a review of the album, which features performances from Miley Cyrus, Rina Sawayama, IDLES, St. Vincent, Royal Blood and more, NME‘s Mark Beaumont wrote, “Once it’s all over, with the help of a decent online support group, or a saint’s patience, you can pick out a fantastic tribute to one of metal’s sacred texts. Maybe even two.”

Metallica also recently released a trailer for a new photo book celebrating ‘The Black Album’, titled The Black Album In Black & White. Having recently restarted live performances, Metallica also performed the iconic album in full during their set at Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, Kentucky.

Kiss Cancels Las Vegas Residency

Kiss has canceled its upcoming residency at Zappos Theater.

Just two weeks after the Hall of Famers’ long-time guitar tech died from COVID-19, the band’s months-long run in Las Vegas has been scrapped.

The band was booked to play 12 shows at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood starting in the week of New Year’s Eve, and extending into February 2022, for what was said to be Kiss’ final Vegas residency.

Live Nation, which was producing the shows, has confirmed the Vegas run is canceled, though reasons have not been disclosed.

A statement published from the Zappos Theater Twitter account reads, “Unfortunately, KISS cancelled their residency.”

Members of the ‘70s hitmakers — including co-founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley — and their crew have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent weeks and months, and the band’s 20-year guitar tech, Fran Stueber, died suddenly Oct. 17 after contracting the novel coronavirus, aged 52.

The glam rockers are currently on their End of the Road Tour, billed as their final trek ever, which kicked off in January 2019 and then had to reschedule dozens of 2020 dates due to the pandemic. Further dates were postponed due to illness within the camp.

The Las Vegas residency was meant to cap-off the band’s U.S. leg, though international dates are booked through July 2022.

Bill Maher to ‘Nevermind’ baby Spencer Elden: “Stop being such a fucking baby”

Actor and comedian Bill Maher has weighed in on the ongoing lawsuit between Nirvana and the star of the band’s iconic ‘Nevermind’ cover.

Earlier this year, Spencer Elden – the child who appears in the artwork – sued the surviving members of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain’s estate, alleging the image was an example of child pornography and sexual exploitation.

Maher hit out an Elden in a recent episode of his HBO talk show Real Time, delivering a monologue where he opined that “the words ‘victim’ and ‘survivor’ have travelled a long way from their original usage”.

“The baby from the Nirvana album says he’s a victim,” Maher continues. “He’s suing Nirvana for lifelong damages. I never thought I’d have to say this to a baby, but stop being such a fucking baby. You’re not a victim. There’s no reason you can’t have a normal, happy life just because people look at you and think, ‘baby penis’. It didn’t hurt Trump.”

Take a look at the full segment from Real Time With Bill Maher below (the section addressing Elden begins at 3:45):

Despite Elden’s lawsuit, which claims he “has suffered and will continue to suffer lifelong damages” from his appearance on the ‘Nevermind’ cover, Nirvana recently announced a deluxe reissue of the album in commemoration of its 30th anniversary. The record is set to be released on November 12, and features Elden’s image uncensored.

Prior to its announcement, Elden expressed that he wanted the ‘Nevermind’ artwork altered for any future re-releases. “If there is a 30th anniversary re-release, [Elden] wants for the entire world not to see his genitals,” his lawyer, Maggie Mabie, told The Associated Press.

Dave Grohl discussed the lawsuit last week, saying in a new interview: “I don’t know that I can speak on it because I haven’t spent too much time thinking about it. I feel the same way most people do in that I have to disagree. That’s all I’ll say.”

The drummer (and current Foo Fighters leader) had previously hinted that Nirvana could indeed change the album’s artwork in the future, saying he had “many ideas of how [Nirvana] should alter that cover”.

Kanye West Recruits Justin Bieber & Roddy Ricch To Power Halloween Sunday Service

Kanye West’s Sunday Service returned on Halloween afternoon (Oct. 31) at an undisclosed sun-drenched rooftop location for a special performance which was streamed live on the Triller and Fite TV app for $10.

It’s the first Sunday Service to connect West — who legally now goes by Ye — and his fans via live stream since the release of his 10th studio album Donda, which arrived in August.

Yeezy and the Sunday Service Choir elected to go with matching white linens for their costume of choice as the sermon kicked off around 4 p.m. ET. Spotted behind Kanye mixed in with the Choir were both Justin Bieber and Roddy Ricch.

They kicked off with a gospel rendition of Donda’s “No Child Left Behind” before moving into other standout cuts from the project taking on West’s late mother’s namesake such as “Hurricane,” “Moon” and “Pure Souls” with the help of Compton native Roddy Ricch.

Ye then led the charge with vocals from the glorious “Come to Life,” which he even apologized for forgetting some of the lyrics mid-performance.

A children’s choir made a guest appearance in mini-white cloaks to match the rest of the Choir’s ensemble. The group of talented kids performed Donda’s “Jesus Lord” and put a religious spin on Kanye’s 2007 hit “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.”

The Sunday Service Choir took the wheel back to move into a joyful edition of the Lauryn Hill-sampling “Believe What I Say” and “New Again.”

Marilyn Manson was also seen in attendance on the livestream. The controversial musician is facing multiple allegations of sexual abuse and contributed vocals to Donda’s “Jail.” Manson even made a surprise appearance at the Chicago Donda listening party in August.

Others present for the star-studded Sunday Service performance included Big Sean, who recently announced his departure from G.O.O.D. Music, and Raphael Saadiq.

The sermon was finished off cleansing the souls of listeners and those on hand with the soothing “24.” Kanye West headed out of the picture as the performance came to a close after lasting for about an hour.

While the Jesus Is King era might be done, Sunday Service looks to be a staple for the long haul in West’s creative universe.
