Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood pay tribute to Christine McVie: “Part of my heart has flown away today”

Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood have paid tribute to their bandmate Christine McVie who died today (November 30) at the age of 79.

Singer Nicks has written a moving letter to her “best friend in the whole world”, whom she said she was regrettably unable to see prior to her death from what her family has described as a “sudden illness”.

“A few hours ago I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975, had passed away. I didn’t even know she was ill…until late Saturday night. I wanted to be in London; I wanted to get to London – but we were told to wait,” began Nicks in a handwritten note posted to Instagram.

“So, since Saturday, one song has been swirling around in my head, over and over and over. I thought I might possibly get to sing it to her, and so, I’m singing it to her now. I always knew I would need these words one day. (Written by the Ladies Haim). It’s all I can do now…”

The song in question is ‘Hallelujah‘ by Haim from the trio’s 2020 album ‘Women In Music Pt. III‘, which bandmember Alana Haim wrote in memory of her best friend who passed away at the age of 20.

Some of the lyrics in that track read: “I had a best friend but she has come to pass/ One I wish I could see now.”

Founding member and drummer of Fleetwood Mac, Mick, also shared an emotional tribute via his Instagram.

“This is a day where my dear sweet Christine McVie has taken to flight.. and let us earthbound folks to listen with baited breath to the sounds of that ‘song bird’…reminding one and all that love is all around us to reach for and touch in this precious life that is gifted to us,” he wrote.

He continued: “Part of my heart has flown away today..I will miss everything about you Christine McVie. Memories abound..they fly to me.”

McVie joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970 and was behind some of their biggest hits including ‘Little Lies’, ‘Everywhere’, ‘Songbird’ and many more.

She was a member of the band when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 but left the group shortly after. The co-vocalist and keyboardist returned to the group in 2014.

A group statement shared by the band earlier today read: “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie.

“She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life.

“We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed”.

Brompton bike designed by Foals raises £22,000 for mental health charity

A “one-of-a-kind” Brompton bicycle created by Foals has raised over £22,000 in a charity raffle for the Mental Health Foundation.

READ MORE: Foals on the cover: “Life is something to be cherished and enjoyed”

Drummer Jack Bevan helped to design the customised model alongside the cycle manufacturer Brompton, which was then put open to bids via a Crowdfunder raffle.

A total of 2041 members of the public bought tickets, raising a grand total of £22,618.26, with all profits going to the London-based charity.

“We’ve been blown away by the generosity of everyone who donated to the campaign,” said Andrew Finkill, Product Development Manager at Brompton. “It is fantastic to be able to raise so much money for the Mental Health Foundation.”

Bevan used his own design to create the bicycle, drawing from visual elements based on the band’s most recent album, ‘Life Is Yours‘. The model included additional components such as a Brookes Cambium saddle and tan wall tyres.

“I’m so pleased that we have collaborated with Brompton on a one-off Foals bike for the Mental Health Foundation,” Bevan said in a statement.

“I have been riding a Brompton for years and I love their bikes so it’s been very cool to make something unique with them, especially when we can raise money for a very good cause.”

The bike was won by a bidder from Singapore named Danny, who said: “I strongly believe and encourage everyone to cycle because during the lockdown period I think cycling helped me a lot to destress and also helped me to broaden my circle of friends.”

Brompton has previously made bespoke bikes with the likes of Foo Fighters, RadioheadPhoebe Bridgers and LCD Soundsystem.

‘Life Is Yours’ was released in June on Warner/ADA, and the Oxford band are currently in the middle of their first tour of North America since 2019.

Foals will also play a string of intimate shows around the UK in January, with those dates listed in full below, before heading back to the US in July and August 2023 to support Paramore.

The Basement x New Balance 2002R “Stone Grey” Is For Locals Only

The Basement, an online-based, fashion-oriented community rooted in the UK, has crafted many a collaborative sneaker over the years, starting first in 2017 with a Nike Dunk Low. And following not one but three pairs of Air Max 90s, the platform is now crafting many a different New Balance 2002R, the latest of which — the “Stone Grey” — is slated to release on December 4th for locals only.

An ostensible finale to a year-long series, The Basement’s New Balance 2002R “Stone Grey” — which succeeds the “Moss Green” and “Earth Brown” released during Summer and Spring, respectively — is a departure from its predecessors in tone. Rather than greens and browns, this pair opts to indulge entirely in neutrals, with its titular hue applied to the suede overlays. Lighter shades are used just underneath, better complementing the whites of the “N” logo, laces, and tongue. Finally, black rounds out the design by way of the sole, toe cap, and heel, creating a throughline across all three of the community’s 2002R colorways.

Again, The Basement x New Balance 2002R “Stone Grey” is releasing for locals only on December 4th, 4PM GMT via bsmntstore.com.

In other news, new images of the Air Jordan 3 Reimagined just surfaced.

Official Images Of The Nike Dunk Low Remastered “Olive”

Since its inception almost 40 years ago, the Nike Dunk has maintained its relevancy through a bountiful amount of collaborators and disparate color blocking. From suede to leather to nubuck, the construction of the silhouette has stayed tried-and-true, that is until The Swoosh unveiled their recently retooled Dunk Low Remastered.

Recently seen in a dominant “Olive” treatment, the latter’s fall-friendly ensemble has been revealed in official imagery. Deriving a majority of its real estate from the army green shade, a darkened hue lays claim to the mesh vamp and midfoot panels whereas its tumbled leather overlays proffer a slightly lighter embellishment. Color-matched along its laces, reconfigured tongue construction and midfoot Swooshes, exposed foam at both the tip and base of the lacing system extends the “under construction” aesthetic. Elsewhere, titular orange accents come littered throughout the upper at its folded and stitched tongue tab and sliver of an overlay directly underneath the “Light Olive” tinted Swoosh. Underfoot, the downward lightening scheme employs across the cream-coated sole unit while a dark chocolate brown mesh finishes the design elements at its heel collar and sock liner.

While we sit tight on further release details for the pair expected to retail for $120, enjoy official images of the Nike Dunk Low Remastered “Olive” below in the meantime.

Engineered Garments Applies Their Asymmetric Design Language To The Reebok LX2200

Reebok is no stranger to the Nepenthes umbrella, having worked with Needles on a pair of Beatniks and the New York storefront on not one but two colorways of the Workout Plus. The footwear brand has yet to borrow the expertise of Engineered Garments, however, though that’s about to change come next week, as founder and designer Daiki Suzuki is releasing three different iterations of the newly-introduced LX2200.

“To design this shoe, we utilized basic earth colors and applied our traditional brand aesthetic through material mixtures and an asymmetrical color scheme,” commented Daiki Suzuki.

Much like the label’s previous footwear offerings — such as their many Vans collaborations — the Engineered Garments x Reebok LX2200, too, comes in threes. Prepared in Black, Beige, and White, the collaboration strikes a balance between the original silhouette and the asymmetric design language signature to Daiki Suzuki’s work. While the colorways themselves may seem ordinary at a glance, their constructions are characteristic of EG, as the left and right foot are subtly distinct in their paneling.

For a closer look at all three Engineered Garments x Reebok LX2200s, see below. Retailing for $140 USD, the collection will be available on December 8th exclusively through Nepenthes before seeing a global release on December 10th.

“Safety Orange” Swooshes Animate The Canvas Accents Of The Air Force 1 Low

Disparate textile combinations have begun slowly making their rounds this holiday season on the Nike Air Force 1. In an effort to continue the silhouette’s 40th anniversary celebration, an unlikely green and orange outfit is now centering itself on the latest low-top construction.

Extending smooth tumbled leathers across the entirety of its upper, the vamp, midfoot panels and knit mesh tongue construction explore a crisp white base layer whereas its surrounding cracked overlays proffer a muted “Oil Green”. Contrasting the lightened ensemble, jet-black accents fill the sock liner and both the tongue and heel tabs embroidered branding while the sole unit underfoot comes anchored in a “Sail” hued midsole and color-matched black tread in tandem with its “AIR” insignia. Choosing to disrupt the neutral-toned palette with a seldom introduction of “Safety Orange”, pre-worn canvas textures emanate the hue along its midfoot Swoosh and connecting back tab in conclusion.

Enjoy official images of the Air Force 1 Low “Oil Green/Safety Orange” below while we sit tight on further release details.
