Coachella appears to confirm Swedish House Mafia for 2022 festival

Coachella festival looks to have confirmed that Swedish House Mafia will perform at next year’s event.

The Californian festival, which returns in April after a two-year delay owing to the coronavirus pandemic, has already announced Rage Against The Machine and Travis Scott as headliners. It’s not clear at this stage where Swedish House Mafia will sit on the bill.

Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat will also perform at next year’s festival, which takes place from April 15-17 and April 22-24, 2022.

Coachella teased the Swedish House Mafia news earlier today (October 20) with a tagged photo of the trio on its official Instagram page. NME has contacted the festival for confirmation of the group’s booking.

Followers were quick to react to the post. One fan wrote: “CANNOT DEAL” while another suggested they could be a headliner alongside RATM and Scott.

The news follows organisers of Coachella and its sister festival Stagecoach amending the events’ entry policies so that attendees are no longer required to be fully vaccinated against COVID.

The change in policy was published on both festival websites. The update for Coachella reads: “After seeing first-hand the low transmission data and successful implementation of safety protocols at our festivals recently, alongside the rising vaccination rate of eligible Americans, we feel confident that we can safely update our policy for Coachella that allows for [a] negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of the event OR proof of full vaccination.”

Coachella’s full line-up for 2022 is yet to be revealed, however it has been confirmed that Frank Ocean will headline in 2023.

Silverchair’s Daniel Johns says the band will never return

Former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns has confirmed that there’s no possibility of the band ever reforming.

READ MORE: Every Silverchair and Daniel Johns release ranked in order of greatness

In an honest interview with The Project‘s Carrie Bickmore on Australian TV, Johns discussed the band’s early days, his relationship with ex-wife Natalie Imbruglia and his struggles with mental health over the years.

The Australian three-piece formed in 1992, before releasing their debut album ‘Frogstomp’ when Johns was just 16. They were successful internationally, but struggled with the pressures of fame and media attention throughout their career. Johns’ struggles with depression and anorexia were documented on their acclaimed third album ‘Neon Ballroom’ in 1999, and his recovery and relationship with Imbruglia inspired the more colourful and highly ambitious fourth record ‘Diorama’ in 2002.

They released final album ‘Young Modern’ in 2007 before going on an indefinite hiatus in 2011. They wrote in a statement: “If the band stops being fun and if it’s no longer fulfilling creatively, then we need to stop.”

When asked whether he would consider his relationship with Silverchair and that period of his life “tricky”, Johns commented: “It’s a very accurate appraisal. It’s not that I’m not proud of the work, I’m actually really proud of the work. It’s just that it’s emotionally triggering for me; it still kind of burns.”

Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns opens up to Carrie about his complicated feelings towards the band and why we’ll probably never see him perform live again.

— The Project (@theprojecttv) October 20, 2021

He went on to explain his thoughts on the possibility of the band reforming, which he previously confirmed wouldn’t happen for “a million bucks or if someone had a gun to his head” – despite claims from drummer Ben Gillies and bassist Chris Joannou that they may just be on a break.

“I was firm that Silverchair were not getting back together and one of the other members kept saying ‘No, we’re just on a break and we’ll be back’,” the former frontman went on. “And I was like, ‘This is really starting to really affect my mental health because I’m saying that’s it. And every time I tried to tell the truth, someone told a lie’. So I said, ‘I wouldn’t get Silverchair back together with a gun to my head or a million bucks.’ Maybe that was too harsh in hindsight.”

Johns also revealed that fans will likely never see him perform live again, despite having new music on the way. “I honestly don’t think you ever will. There’s so much music coming and I’m really proud of it. You don’t need to see it live – just listen.”

Earlier this week, Johns announced the launch of his new podcast, Who is Daniel Johns?. The podcast is produced by Kaitlyn Sawrey and includes chats with Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Natalie Imbruglia, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and former Blink-182 member Tom Delonge, among others.

The podcast is Johns’ first major release since DREAMS’ 2018 album ‘No-One Defeats Us’ – made in collaboration with Empire Of The Sun‘s Luke Steele. Prior to that, Johns released his first (and, to date, only) solo record, ‘Talk’, in 2015.

In recent years, more attention has been focused on Johns’ public persona and mental health rather than his music – or lack thereof. In 2019, Johns filed a lawsuit against the Australian newspaper The Sunday Telegraph over an article that alleged he had visited a brothel. The Sunday Telegraph apologised to Johns for the story last year, and Johns received $470,000 in a settlement with the publisher last May.

Where To Buy The adidas Yeezy Boost 350 v2 “MX Oat”

At one point, adidas Yeezy was flooding the market with 350 v2s, each only slightly different from past releases. But now, following a rather lengthy hiatus, the silhouette has seen stark changes, its new “MX Oat” colorway one of the first steps towards an entirely new direction.

Structurally, all of the usual features are intact. From the pull tab forward, the shoe is true-to-form, only further customized with the titular “MX” pattern. Entirely randomized, this graphic swirls throughout the Primeknit upper, splattering near everything with hits of pastel blue, yellow, and orange paint. Underneath, “Oat” sets a rather palatable ground that’s echoed in much more solid fashion at the tooling, lining, and side stripe.

For another look ahead of the drop, see below. You’ll also find links to adidas.com/Yeezy and other participating retailers.

In you’re more into other Yeezy shoes, then maybe you’ll enjoy the official images of the Foam Runner Vermillion.

New Balance XC-72 Marked With “Washed Henna” Suede

Isn’t it about time for another New Balance XC-72 collaboration? Relying on Casablanca to bring the new lifestyle silhouette into the fold, New Balance has now pushed out a series of in-line colorways that speak to the casual nature of the model. From light cream suedes to forest greens, the NB color team is clearly sticking to that retro runner look that has been in heavy use on their older heritage models in the 99X range. Up next is an attractive “Washed Henna” hue – a blend between red and brown that skews slightly more towards the former. A light salmon is seen at the toe underlay and tongue, with a cream color heel bumper at the exterior. The customary gum outsole that scoops up the forefoot returns.

A release date is currently marked for October 23rd, 2021 on NewBalance.com, with an MSRP curiously lowered to $100. If you’re a major fan of this model, make sure you catch a glimpse of the New Balance XC-72 “Dry Sage” which also releases on the same day.

Tomorrow X Together’s Yeonjun and Taehyun Drop Bedroom Cover The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber’s ‘Stay’

Tomorrow X Together’s Yeonjun and Taehyun dropped their stripped-down, home-recorded cover of The Kid LAROi & Justin Bieber’s summer smash “Stay” on Wednesday (Oct. 20). In the video for the remake the two K-Pop stars chill on a futon and share a mic for their take on the song that has spent seven of its 14 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.

In the 1:40 clip, TXT’s Yeonjun steps up first while sitting on a mattress on the floor in casual black comfy pants, a white sweatshirt and plaid slippers as a seemingly bored Taehyun scrolls away on his phone in the background.

He doesn’t stay still for long, though, bouncing into action with the lines, “Ain’t no way that I can leave you stranded/ ‘Cause you ain’t ever left me empty-handed/ And you know that I know that I can’t live without you/ So, baby, stay,” as Yeonjun adds some “who-oooh” backing vocals. The group, who’ve dropped a string of viral covers of songs including Shawn Mendes’ “In My Blood,” Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next,” Avenue Beat’s “F2020″ and Marteen’s “Sriracha,” are slated to release their first Japanese EP, Chaotic Wonderland, on Nov. 10.

In August, TXT released their repackaged album, The Chaos Chapter: Fight or Escape via HYBE and Republic Records, featuring three new songs: “LO$ER=LOvER;” the first track dedicated to their MOA fanbase, “MOA Diary (Dubaddu Wari Wari);” and the Emocore Mix of “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)” featuring Seori.

Check out the TXT cover of “Stay” below.

Where To Buy The Stone Island x New Balance Tokyo Design Studio RC ELITE

First teased in mid-March and released exclusive at Stone Island outposts earlier this month, the New Balance RC ELITE_SI by the innovative Italian brand is set to land at more global retailers come October 23rd.

While free of any heat-sensitive or other experimental materials, New Balance‘s performance-runner is reimagined with Stone Island’s renowned high-quality. Seemingly inspired by a shared “understated innovation” ethos between the New Balance Tokyo Design Studio and Stone Island Product Research teams, the FullCell-cushioned sneaker predominantly indulges in an off-white color palette. Red branding introduces stark red contrast into the mix, with the boldest statement arriving in the form of each brands’ logos on a respective toe box, made visible by the upper’s exposed layering. Reminiscent of the New Balance 2002R “Refined Future” capsule that landed in August, the mixed-materials build across the pair’s top-half is stylized as “worn-and-torn” without sacrificing any performance benefits.

Enjoy detailed images of the running sneakers here below, as you try your luck at a pair come October 23rd.

EDC Las Vegas First Music Festival to Stream in Roblox Metaverse

This weekend, 150,000 people per day are expected to attend Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. But if you can’t make it to the desert, don’t fret. The dance mega-fest will also be making history in the metaverse, as the first festival to stream via the gaming platform Roblox.

The digital space, called the Insomniac World Party, opened today (Oct. 20), with the festival scheduled to take place in the metaverse from Oct. 22-25. The digital experience will feature the same stages as the real-life EDC, with the music changing as attendees in the metaverse move from stage-to-stage. Fans will also be able to participate in games, check out the Camp EDC camping area and join live meet-and-greets with artists.

Artists’ actual sets from the festival will be streamed on Roblox 24-hours after their in-person performances, with select artists also joining shows inside the experience. Acts will appear on the same stage in the metaverse as they did at the actual event, replicating the real-world shows in the digital space. See a demo from the Insomniac World Party metaverse below.

Roblox will also host a space for fans to engage with the metaverse during the festival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. As Insomniac World Party is a “persistent” space, it will be open indefinitely, with other events are planned for the space in the future. The intention behind adding so many games and so much music to this metaverse is to give fans something to do inside Insomniac World Party between events.

“To partner and create with a metaverse leader like Roblox is an exciting opportunity for Insomniac,” says Pasquale Rotella, Founder and CEO of Insomniac. “Bringing people from all over the world together through art and experience is a goal we’re always working hard to achieve, and together with Roblox we are able to expand this into the digital world. This experience takes the creativity and inspiration behind EDC and all other festivals and events to new heights — bringing our vision to life digitally and opening up the wonder and magic of EDC to anyone of any age, no matter where they are. As we say at EDC, ‘All Are Welcome Here.’”

“Roblox continues to be a leader in bringing innovative, immersive music experiences to the metaverse, and we’re thrilled to partner with Insomniac, who is the first to build a persistent festival virtual world on the platform where they will host EDC this week, one of the largest music festivals in the world,” said Jon Vlassopulos, Vice President and Global Head of Music for Roblox.

Vlassopulos notes that this is only the first of such initiatives for Roblox, adding that “We are excited to offer more amazing permanent music worlds like this one in the coming months as we continue to help the music industry engage with our global audience in new and unprecedented ways.”

More than 200 artists are playing Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas this weekend, with the festival returning for the first time since 2019 after being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Nike SB Brings The Blazer Mid “Acclimate Pack” To The Desert

With their newest creation — the Blazer Mid “Acclimate Pack” — Nike SB is dipping their toes into a category far outside the realm of skateboarding. Designed ostensibly for the trail, the silhouette features modifications that would not seem out of place in the ACG line-up.

The colorway, too, is like that of the line-up’s past hiking boots. A bright shade of tan is used throughout the entire construction, dyeing both the suede and robust mesh materials alike. Black, then, adds more rugged elements over top and adjacent, darkening fixtures such as the toe, lace unit, and midsole. What’s more, the branding opts for a similarly neutral look, though most instances are further embellished with cream-colored text, red suns, and even outdoors-inspired backdrops.

For a closer, more in-depth peek, check out the official images added below. A release should land at Nike.com and select retailers soon.

In other news, the Air Jordan 1 Low Psychic Purple just appeared.

Tems: October R&B/Hip-Hop Rookie of the Month

If nobody lived in the world, I would still be singing,” Tems tells Billboard, “because it’s something I need to heal.”

The quickly blossoming Nigerian artist and Since ’93/RCA signee is seated facing a mirror in the walk-in-closet-sized dressing room of the Manhattan venue Sounds of Brazil, surrounded only by a few members of her team. It’s her first headlining show in New York City, and despite the unavoidable fanfare and crowd of reporters eagerly waiting for their turn to speak with the up and coming star, she appears grounded. “When I express [myself] through songs, it gives me joy, it gives me peace,” continues Tems. “Even if it’s 10 people, that’s fine. Even if it’s five people, that’s okay. But [there’s] somebody that needs to hear it somewhere.”

Turns out, it’s a bit more than that: Tems’ soul-baring tracks, many of which she produced herself, are raking in 9.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify. On the charts, Tems is making her mark as well with multiple appearances and a handful of No. 1’s for her breakout feature on “Essence” alongside fellow Nigerian star, Wizkid and later addition Justin Bieber. Following the delayed success of “Essence,” a track that initially released in October 2020, the wins continued to roll in for the musical multi-hyphenate. A few weeks prior, a billboard popped up in Lagos, announcing Tems’s feature on Drake’s highly anticipated album, Certified Lover Boy. The track, titled “Fountains,” debuted at No. 26 on the Hot 100. Tems then released a remarkably curated EP If Orange Was A Place that features R&B crooner Brent Faiyaz on “Found,” which reached No. 17 on the Hot R&B Songs chart. More recently, the Apple Music Up Next artist made her TV debut, performing EP deep cut “Avoid Things” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

And while Tems’s commercial success is a direct reflection of her exploding global popularity, she was still somehow caught off guard by it all. “It’s almost unbelievable — but it’s real,” she says. “It’s actually real.”

Only a few years ago, Tems sat behind a desk working in marketing. The self-described loner spent her free time making music and practicing her self-taught production skills, but doubted the possibility of a life as a professional musician. “I even said, ‘Maybe I’m not meant to share this with the world,’” she recalls. “‘Maybe I’m meant to be writing songs in secret until the day I die.’”

During this time, Tems self-released “Mr. Rebel,” a track that became a catalyst for her border-transcending musical career. She says her intentions for releasing the unapologetically raw song were to simply share her music with others, rather than an effort to pursue a music career. “I’m not going to chase anything, everything will come to me,” she says with newfound confidence. “This is clearly where I’m meant to be. This is my path.”

The October R&B/Hip-Hop Rookie of the Month sat down with Billboard to discuss everything from why she doesn’t consider herself an afrobeats artist to the days she spent in a Ugandan prison following a performance to the direction she’s headed in as a burgeoning international star.

You worked a marketing job just a few years ago, how did you make that shift into making music full time?

I felt miserable. It was a sad life. There were times where I’d be like “What am I doing?” Just because nobody had done it before, nobody had seen it before, everyone was like “What else would you do?” I didn’t tell anybody about singing. I even said, “Maybe I’m not meant to share this with the world. Maybe I’m meant to be writing songs in secret until the day I die.” Then one day, I got a message that was really divine [from scripture]. It was about taking a leap and believing in the thing that you are most passionate about. Making music is the only thing I can wake up and do anywhere and anytime. I didn’t make myself this way. So when I got the message it was a sign to me that I need to believe in myself and that this is my crossroad. Either I stay in this job for the rest of my life, or I take a leap and have faith in God and decide that I believe in myself, I believe in what God has made me to be no matter what the end result is. No matter where I end up. Even if it’s dead or homeless or under the water, I’m gonna dive in, I’m just gonna do it.

How did you find your managers, Muyiwa Awoniyi and Wale Davies?

When I decided to release [“Mr. Rebel”], I didn’t know anything about the industry [or] anyone in the industry. I was just like, I’m not going to chase anything. Everything will come to me because I tried not to do music, and this is clearly where I’m meant to be. This is my path. I’m not going to try to look for someone to manage me. The person will come by themselves with true intentions, and they would want to manage me. I met Wale [Davies] first, he reached out to me on Instagram. We went to the studio [in Nigeria] and had my first feature that night. Then a year later I met [Muyiwa Awoniyi] at a camp with producers that came in from L.A. Obviously, everybody is trying to do afrobeats. But the beats they were playing were just not for me and I explained that. They weren’t too happy that I didn’t want to jump on [anything] and they said, “This is your last chance to work with us, either you use these beats or you don’t work with us at all.” And I was like yeah, bet. I’m out. Then everybody in the camp was hating and whispering. I didn’t have energy for that so I just went to the balcony and Muyiwa was [there] and we just spoke and connected. Both of them just aligned and wanted to manage me. It was very organic.

You often talk about God in relation to your journey as a singer. Where does your sense of faith come from?

It comes from my life. My whole life is literally a movie — a movie is such an understatement — just personally encountering things that are not normal. There’s no one day that something crazy doesn’t happen. It might sound crazy, [but] every single day something insane happens and it hasn’t stopped. It’s just that before it used to be bad things, the wrong things. I was breaking down all the time. Growing up, my mom was a single mom. She wasn’t around most of the time. So I had a lot of spare time to get involved in the wrong places. I was like, 10. I ended up growing up really fast. Now, things are still happening but I am more open and have a better understanding of who I am and what my life is meant to be.

In December 2020, you spent time in a Ugandan prison allegedly related to COVID restriction violations. What happened?

I went to [Uganda] for a show. And the morning after the show, I found myself in prison. They bursted into my hotel room and that same day I found myself in a [tiny] room full of at least 50 women and three children. No lights, no water, all on the floor, scratchy blankets, and I spent two days in prison. It’s not a long time, but it’s an African prison. Honestly I could have died. It was because I had a show and they targeted Nigerian artists. Because the people of that country weren’t happy that Nigerians were performing. Things that are equally as crazy as being in prison happen every day.

We’re increasingly headed towards a space of genre fluidity in music. What are your thoughts on genre categorizations?

To be honest, I didn’t know what genres were until I released a song and then people asked me what genre is this. Then I was like, “OK, so this is what people do. They have to categorize your song into something, to name it.” I just thought I was making music, I don’t work according to genres. I think back in the day, people were very intentional about the [music] that they were [making]. Now, anybody can make anything. It’s all music. I don’t know what genre I make. I just let people draw conclusions because I don’t actually care. They could literally say I’m an opera singer. As long as it’s music and it’s out there, I think that’s the most important thing.

I feel like people have an idea of me, but there’s going to be more confusion because I’m literally just starting. My first song was just three years ago, in 2018. There’s so much music, so much to know, so much to discover. The music that’s going to come out is going to be so different from what I have now. I’m on this exploration journey and I’m happy to share that with the world because it’s my actual life.

One genre people often place you in is afrobeats, what’s your response to that?

I’m not afrobeats. That’s the truth. I think the only reason why they call me afrobeats is because I’m from Africa. I can jump on an afrobeats song, but even “Essence” isn’t necessarily afrobeats. It’s [afrofusion], which is what a lot of stuff is. I’ve never been an afrobeats artist. Would you call “Mr. Rebel” afrobeats? Or “Try Me”? It’s really just because I worked with an afrobeats artist [and] because I come from Africa. There’s more than just afrobeats coming out of Africa.

You also produce some of your own music, how did you get into doing that?

I started producing in university. I’d just use any free time I had. I just went on YouTube. I didn’t know about loops at that point, I just made tunes from piano on Logic. I’ll get drum kits on Logic and loop some of them or find some of them and use them. But apart from that, I just make melodies from the piano or find random weird instruments to experiment with. I didn’t have a microphone, just my laptop. I used my phone to record my vocals [on Voice Notes].  I wasn’t trying to be a singer, music was a hobby. Music was the thing that made me happy. It was my form of expression. I wanted to know how to produce so that I could express [myself] better, so I could expand my desire to make music.

I’ve heard you also dabble in fashion design?

I do, mostly for myself, my body. I haven’t really gotten around to it because I’ve been [in the U.S.]. I’ve always loved designing stuff since I was a teenager, I’d just sketch things. I’m very into art in general, which is why it seems like I do a lot of things, but it’s really just the arts. I like drawing, I like painting, I like designing. It’s just creativity.

You’ve clearly had an insane 2021. What’s a moment that left you speechless?

Honestly, all the moments left me speechless, everything. Being able to provide for my loved ones, being able to become a better person, become someone that people can rely on. I think that’s what gives me joy. I want to just share my experiences, because I feel like I’m not the only person that goes through things in my mind. If I can overcome my struggles and my internal battles, so can everybody else. I really believe that I’m meant to connect with people.

A lot of times, aspiring artists are encouraged to create a “brand” and focus on making hits. What would you say to that?

I wouldn’t encourage anyone to think like that. I think what’s important when it comes to music is how much you love it and what you’re doing music for. That determines how far you go. I couldn’t give up on music. It was the only thing that made me feel sane in the midst of all the chaos and all the drama that one experiences. Music was actually my therapy, so if I didn’t do music for a month or two weeks, I started to feel weird. I’d start crying because I hadn’t [made] music. That’s how much it meant to me and still means to me.  I wasn’t thinking of anything else. I just thought, “You know what? This is what God used to help me deal with life. I’ll continue working this [marketing] job and if I get stressed, I’ll just do music,” you know? So that I could release all the stress. I wasn’t thinking of music as my career. It wasn’t until after I started my job that I realized music is what I’ve actually been meant to do. You can put me in any situation; I could be dying, I could be sleeping. I could close my eyes and write a song in five seconds. It’s the only thing that I’m really passionate about. I may not be the best, but I can do it with my eyes closed.

Miley Cyrus Talks Touring & Metallica Collab on ‘Nothing Else Matters’ With Lars Ulrich

Miley Cyrus is continuing to embrace her rocker side. The “Plastic Hearts” singer sat down with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich for the Fall 2021 issue of Interview Magazine to discuss what it’s been like for them to be onstage again after the long COVID-19 pandemic lay-off, hitting up the festival circuit and their fiery collaboration on his band’s “Nothing Else Matters.”

Ulrich and Cyrus kicked things off by describing the wobbly feeling of getting back on festival stages for huge audiences after almost two years of Zoom shows. Cyrus told Ulrich about her triumphant Lollapalooza headlining set earlier this summer, revealing that, “Beforehand, I was torn. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be this bicycle moment, where you pick up right where you left off like nothing ever changed, or if it was going to feel completely new, and I was going to fall back in love and remember why I do this in the first place,” she said.

“In the end, it was somewhere in the middle. On these festival runs, you almost get desensitized to the energy and the impact of that many souls filling up a space.”

Ulrich wondered if Cyrus performed any warm-up shows prior to heading out on the festival circuit, and she revealed that she hadn’t. “It felt like jumping out of an airplane in front of 100,000 people,” she said of revving things up cold. “It brings back that tingle of fear, or maybe anxiety, which I haven’t felt in a while. But it reminded me, again, of how all of that’s erased when you perform. There’s so much less judgment in a live music setting than exists anywhere else at the moment.”

Cyrus played Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” at the Glastonbury Festival in 2019, which became the catalyst for her singing the song with Metallica for their Blacklist collaborations album. The sprawling collection features more than 50 artists celebrating the 1991 mega-platinum album’s 30th anniversary; the now-iconic album has spent 629 weeks on the Billboard 200 to date, and peaked at No. 1 on the chart.

The “Plastic Hearts” singer described the unity in the anniversary record, and how being featured on the album allowed her to keep the special connection she has with the song.

“This eclectic mosaic of a collaboration that we’ve brought to life is reflective of that. It’s like, ‘F— the divide.’ For you to listen to my cover of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ with an open mind is an example of that — you don’t judge who I’ve been, what I’ve done, or how people see me,” Cyrus explained. “By allowing me to cover ‘Nothing Else Matters’ on the record is like you guys validating my relationship to this song. It feels like it was written for me, and it was something that I was able to make my own. And now, my fans have that connection to it as well.”

“It’s amazing to look at this list of 53 artists who have come together and taken the time to record all these songs. There are all these versions of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by different artists,” Ulrich replied. “To hear the song filtered through everybody’s voices, approaches, and visions is an incredible thing. We know we’ve been around for a while. We can certainly feel it in our bodies, but at the same time, our spirit is young. And our spirit is always about the next album.”

Country Upstart Brittney Spencer Sets First Headlining Tour: Exclusive

Rising country artist Brittney Spencer will kick-off her first headlining tour starting Dec. 2 at New York City’s Rockwood Music Hall, with stops also planned for Washington, D.C., and the singer’s hometown of Baltimore.

Spencer, who is booked by UTA, will take her In a Perfect World tour to 15 cities, winding down on Feb. 12 at Growler’s in Memphis. The club tour takes its name from lyrics in her current single “Sober & Skinny.”

The dates are sandwiched in between the singer/songwriter’s already robust live slate, which currently has her opening for Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Brett Eldredge through mid-November and Reba McEntire in early 2022.

“I’ve fallen head-over-heels in love with performing live since releasing my debut EP Compassion last December,” Spencer tells Billboard. “So, my band and I are gearing up to do my first ever headlining tour. Insane! I’ll be showcasing songs that I’ve  released over the last year, along with some new material that’s soon-to-be-released as well.”

Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test are required for entry. Opening for Spencer are Sam Williams, Abbey Cone and Camille Parker.

Spencer’s star has been ascending since last October when she posted a cover of herself performing The Highwomen’s “Crowded Table” on Twitter, which led to band members Maren Morris and Amanda Shires retweeting the snippet and inviting her to sing with them once the pandemic was over. That dream came true last month when she stepped in for an ailing Shires at The Highwomen’s appearance at the BottleRock Napa Valley Music Festival.

In addition to releasing her own music independently, in the last year Spencer has written with Morris, Shires, Brandy Clark, Blanco Brown, Isbell, Jimmie Allen and other acts. Both Spotify and Pandora named her a 2021 artist to watch, while CMT inducted her into its Next Women of Country class of 2021.

Spencer is expected to release a full album next year.
