This weekend, 150,000 people per day are expected to attend Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. But if you can’t make it to the desert, don’t fret. The dance mega-fest will also be making history in the metaverse, as the first festival to stream via the gaming platform Roblox.

The digital space, called the Insomniac World Party, opened today (Oct. 20), with the festival scheduled to take place in the metaverse from Oct. 22-25. The digital experience will feature the same stages as the real-life EDC, with the music changing as attendees in the metaverse move from stage-to-stage. Fans will also be able to participate in games, check out the Camp EDC camping area and join live meet-and-greets with artists.

Artists’ actual sets from the festival will be streamed on Roblox 24-hours after their in-person performances, with select artists also joining shows inside the experience. Acts will appear on the same stage in the metaverse as they did at the actual event, replicating the real-world shows in the digital space. See a demo from the Insomniac World Party metaverse below.

Roblox will also host a space for fans to engage with the metaverse during the festival at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. As Insomniac World Party is a “persistent” space, it will be open indefinitely, with other events are planned for the space in the future. The intention behind adding so many games and so much music to this metaverse is to give fans something to do inside Insomniac World Party between events.

“To partner and create with a metaverse leader like Roblox is an exciting opportunity for Insomniac,” says Pasquale Rotella, Founder and CEO of Insomniac. “Bringing people from all over the world together through art and experience is a goal we’re always working hard to achieve, and together with Roblox we are able to expand this into the digital world. This experience takes the creativity and inspiration behind EDC and all other festivals and events to new heights — bringing our vision to life digitally and opening up the wonder and magic of EDC to anyone of any age, no matter where they are. As we say at EDC, ‘All Are Welcome Here.’”

“Roblox continues to be a leader in bringing innovative, immersive music experiences to the metaverse, and we’re thrilled to partner with Insomniac, who is the first to build a persistent festival virtual world on the platform where they will host EDC this week, one of the largest music festivals in the world,” said Jon Vlassopulos, Vice President and Global Head of Music for Roblox.

Vlassopulos notes that this is only the first of such initiatives for Roblox, adding that “We are excited to offer more amazing permanent music worlds like this one in the coming months as we continue to help the music industry engage with our global audience in new and unprecedented ways.”

More than 200 artists are playing Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas this weekend, with the festival returning for the first time since 2019 after being cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
