Among the most fashionable in the NBA, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is joining Converse for further collaborative efforts. The athlete’s next up, which is set atop the beloved Pro Leather silhouette, opts for a deconstructed aesthetic akin to that of Japanese fashion label COMME des GARÇONS.

Even at a glance, the influences are evident, as the shoe’s paneling is warped and contorted like the Air Force 1 that hit the runway last year. The eye stays and toe cap, for example, overextend passed their stitch in the very same manner, each edge rounded out as if cut with haste. Things gradually fade to normalcy elsewhere, though, save for along the forefoot’s side whose quilted texture is unlike the smoother leathers immediately behind. Elsewhere, the branding is done up in standard overlays, complementing the small debossing along the tongue, the “Sail” colored sole is given platform height, and the silken lining is dressed with a playful all-over print.

For a look at everything mentioned, see below. As of right now, a release date is TBD, so sit tight for further updates.

In other news, the Aleali May Air Jordan 4 was unveiled to be inspired by the stylist’s father.
