After Britney Spears’ 13-year conservatorship was terminated by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Friday (Nov. 12), the pop superstar’s fiancé Sam Asghari took to Instagram to celebrate the ruling.
Alongside a graphic emblazoned with the word “FREEDOM,” Asghari wrote in an Instagram caption: “History was made today. Britney is Free!” He ended the message with a single red heart emoji.
Ahead of Friday’s hearing, Asghari posted a video of himself and Spears wearing #FreeBritney T-shirts on Thursday, soundtracked by Britney’s 2013 hit “Work Bitch.” Even their dog wore a #FreeBritney tee on his Instagram Story.
Asghari has been a fierce supporter of Spears’ as she’s fought for an end to the conservatorship that has controlled her personal and professional life for the past 13 years. When Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, was suspended as conservator of her estate back in September, Asghari wrote on his Instagram Story: “Free Britney! Congratulations!!!!!!!!!” He also added alongside a photo of a lioness: “She did this. Her fan base is called the army for a reason.”
Back in February, the actor/model — who asked Spears to marry him in September after five years together — took aim at Jamie Spears via Instagram after the premiere of The New York Times’ Framing Britney Spears documentary, writing on his Story: “Now it’s important for people to understand that I have zero respect for someone trying to control our relationship and constantly throwing obstacles our way. In my opinion Jamie is a total d—.” Ahead of the June court hearing where Spears addressed the court in her conservatorship case for the first time, Asghari wore a “Free Britney” T-shirt and posted a lion emoji on his Instagram Story.
Spears and Asghari met on the 2016 set of her music video “Slumber Party” and got engaged to be married on Sept. 12.
