Just a month after Three Days Grace tied Shinedown for the most No. 1s in the 40-plus-year history of Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, Shinedown retakes sole possession of the all-time record, as “Planet Zero” bounds to the top of the March 5-dated survey.

“Zero” becomes Shinedown’s 17th Mainstream Rock Airplay leader. The band first reigned in 2005, when “Save Me” scored its first of 12 weeks atop the ranking.

“Zero” is also the band’s seventh No. 1 in a row, dating to “How Did You Love” in 2017. That ties Shinedown for the most rulers in a row, alongside Disturbed, which notched seven straight in 2015-19 before snapping its run with the No. 3-peaking “Hold On to Memories” in 2020.

Three Days Grace again holds the second most No. 1s in the chart’s history. The two bands had previously been tied at 15 before Shinedown pulled ahead with 16 in 2020. (Fittingly, Shinedown retakes the record all to itself by dethroning Three Days Grace’s “So Called Life,” which dips to No. 2.)

Concurrently, “Zero” leaps 11-8 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 2.8 million audience impressions, a 9% boost, according to MRC Data. It’s Shinedown’s 13th top 10 on the list, which began in 2009, and its first since “Monsters” reached No. 7 in 2019.

Shinedown moves into a tie with Cage the Elephant and Twenty One Pilots for the second most top 10s in the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart’s history. Only Foo Fighters — with 14 — have more, with their latest, “Love Dies Young,” lifting 5-4 on the latest survey. Twenty One Pilots’ 13th top 10 also currently ranks in the top 10, at No. 9.

Shinedown’s success with “Zero” on Rock & Alternative Airplay is supported not just by its mainstream rock support but also alternative radio play; after debuting at No. 40 on the Alternative Airplay list dated Feb. 26, it’s bubbling under the ranking.

On the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, “Zero” bullets at No. 7 after reaching No. 4 (Feb. 12). In addition to its radio audience, the song earned 624,000 official streams Feb. 18-24. It also pushes 47-44 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs.

“Zero” is the title-cut lead single from Shinedown’s seventh studio album, due April 22. Its predecessor, Attention Attention, debuted atop the Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts in May 2018.
