Alice Glass asks Machine Gun Kelly to apologise for “predatory behaviour”

Alice Glass has asked Machine Gun Kelly to apologise for his “predatory behaviour towards underage girls”

READ MORE: Alice Glass: “I never thought I would be talking openly like this… about anything”

It comes after Glass shared footage of a 2013 interview with Fuse in which a 23-year old Machine Gun Kelly admits his celebrity crush was a 17-year old Kendall Jenner. In the clip, the interviewer then asks “are you counting down the days until she’s 18?”

“I’m not waiting until she’s 18,” replies Machine Gun Kelly. “I’ll go now. I’m not a creepy age. I’m 23, she’s 17 and a celebrity – there is no limits.”

He then goes on to say: “Robert Plant who was one of the greatest lead singers ever, dated a girl who was 14. Axl Rose, who was one of the biggest badasses ever, dated a girl who was 16 and wrote a song for their first album, about the girl who was 16. I don’t care. Say what you want – if Kendall Jenner was in your bedroom naked, and you’re 50 – you’re going.”

The interview has now prompted Glass to say: “In this clip MGK blurts out a justification for statutory rape that amounts to ‘its ok because other famous men do. Seems like he’s spent a lot of time thinking about this. Quickly rattling off a list of examples that encourage predatory behaviour towards underage girls.”

“These are the same arguments I heard as a young teenager. Arguments that were used to exploit me. This is very personal to me,” she continues.

“It’s sad I have to explain this to some of you, but sex with minors is wrong. They are not prepared or developed enough to make clear headed decisions when pressured by manipulative or forceful older men. Being used by an older man for sex as a child/teen can have devastating consequences that lasts years or sometimes a lifetime depending on the severity of the abuse,” she adds.

“Please address this @machinegunkelly. Tell your fans this was a bad take. Tell them this was wrong.”

In 2014, Glass left Crystal Castles shortly after the release of their third album ‘III’ – three years later, she bravely issued a statement alleging the abuse and manipulation she had endured throughout her time with bandmate Ethan Kath, who has consistently denied the allegations.

Speaking about her decision to share her experiences so openly in her solo music, Glass told NME: “If I could take a pill and erase all my memories, I would. I didn’t think I would be here – I thought I’d be dead for sure. I was very suicidal as a teenager and young person… There’s so much suffering in the world, and I bring [up my difficult experiences] now because, in a weird way, every time I open up about this, somebody writes me or sends a really nice message where they can relate to what I’m saying.”

Daniel Radcliffe says Rihanna (sort of) played a role in getting him cast as Weird Al Yankovic

Daniel Radcliffe has opened up about how he landed the role of Weird Al Yankovic in the upcoming biopic, explaining how Rihanna played an (indirect) role in the casting.

The Harry Potter star is set to play the iconic comic musician in Roku Channel film WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story, though revealed in a new interview that a rendition he did of Tom Lehrer’s song ‘The Elements’ likely put him in the frame for the part.

“When I talked to Al for the first time, I was like, ‘I’m immensely flattered by the idea that you would pick me to play you, but like, why me? I’m mystified but excited,” he revealed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Radcliffe then recalled an appearance on The Graham Norton Show over a decade ago, where he appeared alongside Rihanna, admitting she was “bemused” by his rendition.

“I sang ‘The Elements’ next to Colin Farrell and a very bemused Rihanna,” the actor said. “I think she was like, ‘Who is this kid, and why is he singing all of ‘The Elements’?

“I guess Al saw that and was like, ‘This guy maybe gets it,’” Radcliffe added. “And so he picked me. So I’m very, very lucky, and now I’ve gotten to have accordion lessons with Al. I can go to my grave with that.”

A first look at Radcliffe in character was released last month, showing the actor donning Yankovic’s famous “Hawaiian shirt”.

“Wearing the Hawaiian shirt is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly, and I’m honoured to finally share with the world the absolutely 100 percent unassailably true story of Weird Al’s depraved and scandalous life,” Radcliffe said (via The Hollywood Reporter) at the time.

Yankovic himself said of Radcliffe’s casting: “When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule.

“And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

Alongside Radcliffe, WEIRD is set to star Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna, while Rainn Wilson will play Dr. Demento.

Yin-Yang Principles Inspired This Mismatched Jordan Zion 1 SP

It’s official: Zion Williamson is not expected to return to the NBA during the 2021-22 season. The 21-year-old, however, continues to churn out new colorways of his Jordan Zion 1 signature sneaker, with the latest donning a mismatched “White/Black/University Red” colorway seemingly inspired by “yin-and-yang” philosophy.

Akin to other propositions under the “NIKE, Inc.” banner, the latest non-Air Jordan basketball shoe doesn’t indulge in a symmetrical look between left and right shoes: the former boasts a “White”-colored toe accompanied by pitch-dark cicles, whereas the right shoe’s toe opts for a clean “Black” makeup. Lace loops, “ZW” logos on the spine and circular emblems on the top of the tongue introduce vibrant red flair into the mix, which root the colorway in Michael Jordan heritage. Lastly, sole units also partake in the mismatched arrangement, as “yin-yang”-appropriate color combinations take over the made-for-basketball tooling between both shoes.

No firm Nike.com launch date details have been confirmed by the brand, but that’s likely to change before the end of the NBA season (mid-April). In the meantime, enjoy official images of the pair ahead.

Union x Nike Dunk Low “Argon” Releasing On March 31st

Last month, Union LA and Nike kickstarted the “Passport Pack” with the release of the highly limited and exclusive Dunk Low “Pistachio.” And if you regretfully missed out, there’s no reason to worry as the two will be following this pair up with the “Argon” colorway on March 31st.

The “Passport Pack” essentially celebrates the retailer’s three homes: New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. Each of the three upcoming Dunks draws inspiration from past offerings, with the “Argon” specifically paying homage to a rare pick-up Chris Gibbs purchased on a trip to Japan.

Encased in a hastily-stitched, see-through synthetic, the shoe sports a grid pattern all throughout the upper. This tearaway film masks the leather underneath, whose overlays and unders dress up in a light and dark blue, respectively. White paints the Swoosh as it does the tongue and laces; orange tags and emblems mark the profile, displaying the retailer’s “UN/LA” and Frontman branding; and red threads are found along the edge of every panel.

For a closer look at the Union LA x Nike Dunk Low “Argon” ahead of the March 31st release, see below.

King Princess Is Prepping Her Sophomore Album, ‘Hold On Baby,’ for 2022 Release

In the three years since King Princess unveiled her debut album Cheap Queen, fans of the bedroom-pop sensation have been craving more. Now, it looks like their prayers will be answered soon.

On Friday (March 18), the singer released her latest single “For My Friends,” a touching, woozy pop single focused around thanking the people who have stuck by her for years. Alongside the single, King Princess, known off stage as Mikaela Straus, announced that her highly anticipated sophomore album, Hold On Baby, is due out later this year.

“I thought it would be extra fab to begin releasing this new record with a song about my two best friends from high school,” Straus said in a press release. “These girls have been through the pits with me, and the more time I spend with them as an adult, the more I’m reminded that they are my home. So thank you my angel horse queens for sticking with me. I love you all and I can’t wait to give you this song.”

With a new album cycle also comes a new touring schedule, and Straus is already preparing her next move. The singer confirmed that she will also be heading out on her Hold On Baby Tour starting in early July 2022. Gloria Trevi Announces 2022 Isla Divina US Tour Dates: It’s a ‘Journey of Freedom’

After six sold-out shows at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, Gloria Trevi announced Monday (March 21) that she’s bringing her Isla Divina (Divine Island) tour to the U.S.

This marks Trevi’s first tour in three years, following her 2019 Diosa de la Noche, which she was unable to complete due to the global pandemic in 2020. With the return of the live music industry, Trevi promises fans a conceptual tour that’s a “journey of freedom.”

“‘Isla Divina’ is a world where there are no wars, no pandemic, no violence, no protests,” Trevi said during a press conference in Miami. “It’s a world without diseases, where we can laugh and sing, where there is equality. It’s a beautiful world, one that we all dream of and have inside our hearts.”

Produced by Live Nation, Great Talent Entertainment, and Latino Live, the tour has 40 confirmed U.S. dates, kicking off Aug. 13 at San Juan’s Coliseo de Puerto Rico. Trevi will then make pitstops in key cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, and many more, before wrapping up with two dates in December at the Fillmore Miami Beach.

The more than two-hour show consists of nearly 15 different outfit changes, 25 of Trevi’s biggest hits, a colorful stage setting, dancers, and a world that transforms from an apocalypse into an ideal island.

“I start the tour with an apocalypse, and sing about the things we have lost, the loves we have left behind,” she explained. “In this tour, people cry with me but they also get up and dance!”

Trevi, who’s making the rounds with her flamenco-infused bop “La Recaida,” will release her upcoming studio album in April.

Tickets for “Isla Divina” go on sale at 10 a.m. local time on March 25 via LiveNation.com and ticketera.com (Puerto Rico). Artist pre-sale tickets go on sale at noon on March 22 to 10 p.m. on March 24 with the code DIVINA. Live Nation, venue, and radio pre-sale will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on March 24.

Rihanna Declares Herself ‘#PreggoAF’ in New Baby Bump Selfie Video

Rihanna took to social media on Sunday night (March 20) to show off her growing baby bump.

“Takin ‘booty do’ to new levels #preggoAF,” the superstar captioned the Instagram Story, which starts with a closeup of her bump before panning to reveal her smiling face.

Ever the business mogul, RiRi also took the opportunity to shout out one of her latest Fenty Beauty products, which she just so happened to be wearing in the selfie video, writing, “I’m not gon’ lie we f—-ked this new lip gloss color UUUPPP!!! #BubbleBinge is easily my new obsession.”

Last week, the singer revealed in a new interview with Elle during the opening of Fenty Beauty at Ulta that she’s officially entered into the third trimester of her high-profile pregnancy. And she’s already looking to some of her favorite Real Housewives for parenting inspiration — specifically Heather Dubrow of The Real Housewives of Orange County, and The Real Housewives of New Jersey‘s Teresa Giudice.

While Rihanna is fast approaching the birth of her first child with A$AP Rocky, the global icon only revealed her pregnancy a little less than two months ago , thanks to candid photos of the lovebirds on a trip to New York City.

Since then, she’s taken maternity style to new heights, embracing her new curves in a runway-ready collection of halter tops, maxi skirts, latex crop tops and cutout jumpsuits — all while jetting off to the likes of Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.

Check out the closeup of Rih’s baby bump here before the Story disappears.

Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves’ Rules Hot 100 For Third Week, Imagine Dragons & JID’s ‘Enemy’ Hits Top 10

Glass Animals‘ “Heat Waves” tops the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week, after completing a record 59-week climb to No. 1.

Meanwhile, Imagine Dragons and JID‘s “Enemy” enters the Hot 100’s top 10, jumping from No. 12 to No. 8.

The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data. All charts (dated March 26, 2022) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (March 22). For all chart news, you can follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

“Heat Waves,” released on Wolf Tone/Polydor/Republic Records, drew 67.3 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 2%) and 15.2 million U.S. streams (up 1%) and sold 3,100 downloads (down 9%) in the March 11-17 tracking week, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data.

The single, the first Hot 100 No. 1 (and entry) for the British quartet, logs a second week at No. 1 on the Radio Songs chart; dips to No. 4 from its No. 3 high on Streaming Songs; and falls 16-20 on Digital Song Sales, where it reached No. 13.

As “Heat Waves” reigns in its 61st total week on the Hot 100, it ties as the fifth-longest-charting No. 1 in the list’s history (and is almost assured of moving into second place within two months).

Longest-Charting Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s
90 weeks on Hot 100 (an overall record), “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd (2019-21; four weeks at No. 1)
68 weeks, “Party Rock Anthem,” LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock (2011-12; six weeks at No. 1)
65 weeks, “Rolling in the Deep,” Adele (2010-12; seven weeks at No. 1)
63 weeks, “Save Your Tears,” The Weeknd & Ariana Grande (2020-22; two weeks at No. 1; still on chart)
61 weeks, “Heat Waves,” Glass Animals (2021-22; three weeks at No. 1 to-date; still on chart)
61 weeks, “Circles,” Post Malone (2019-20; three weeks at No. 1)
60 weeks, “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix),” Los Del Rio (1995-97; 14 weeks at No. 1)

“Heat Waves” concurrently tops the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts, both of which use the same multi-metric methodology as the Hot 100, for a 26th week each.

The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” rebounds 5-2 on the Hot 100, after seven weeks at No. 1. It holds at No. 2 on Radio Songs (64.5 million, up 1%); slips 8-13 on Streaming Songs (11.5 million, essentially even week-over-week); and re-enters Digital Song Sales at No. 46 (1,800, up 21%). The track has spent all 36 of its weeks on the Hot 100 in the top 10, dating to its entrance at No. 3 on the July 24, 2021, chart; only Post Malone’s “Circles” has linked a longer consecutive run in the top 10 from a debut: 38 weeks, in 2019-20.

Kodak Black’s “Super Gremlin” is steady at its No. 3 Hot 100 high, as it leads the multi-metric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for a ninth week each, and GAYLE’s “abcdefu” keeps at No. 4, after reaching No. 3. “abcdefu” concurrently crowns the Adult Pop Airplay radio chart; it previously led Pop Airplay for two weeks.

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” from Encanto, drops 2-5 on the Hot 100 after five weeks at No. 1, the longest reign ever for a song from a Disney film. The track, by Carolina Gaitán, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz and the Encanto Cast, all singing as the characters that they voice in the movie, continues its command on Streaming Songs, where it leads for an 11th week (22.2 million, down 11%).

Justin Bieber’s “Ghost” hits a new No. 6 Hot 100 high, up from No. 7, swapping spots with Adele’s “Easy on Me” (6-7), which spent 10 weeks at No. 1.

Imagine Dragons and JID’s “Enemy” surges 12-8 on the Hot 100, with 42 million in radio airplay audience (up 17%, good for the chart’s top Airplay Gainer award for a fifth consecutive week), 10.6 million streams (down 3%) and 4,000 sold (up 3%). The song is showcased at the beginning of each episode of Netflix’s animated series Arcane: League of Legends, which premiered Nov. 6, 2021 (with the track having topped Billboard‘s Top TV Songs chart, powered by Tunefind, for November).

Imagine Dragons notch their fifth Hot 100 top 10, following “Radioactive” (No. 3, July 2013); “Demons” (No. 6, December 2013); “Believer” (No. 4, August 2017); and “Thunder” (No. 4, December 2017). Rapper/singer JID earns his first top 10.

“Enemy” also enters the top 10 on both Radio Songs (14-10) and Digital Song Sales (13-10). Imagine Dragons score their seventh Radio Songs top 10 and first since “Natural” in 2018; “Enemy” reaches the top 10 in just its fifth week on the chart, marking the group’s fastest flight to the tier, one-upping the six-week trip for “Thunder,” its lone leader on the list. The band adds its 11th top 10 on Digital Song Sales. JID reaches the top 10 of both charts for the first time.

“Enemy” is drawing support at multiple radio formats, as it rules Alternative Airplay for a seventh week, having become Imagine Dragons’ seventh No. 1 on the chart; pushes 10-9 on Adult Pop Airplay; and holds at No. 10 on Pop Airplay.

Also notably, the top three titles on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs (“Heat Waves,” “abcdefu” and “Enemy,” at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively, this week) appear in the Hot 100’s top 10 simultaneously for the first time since Hot Rock & Alternative Songs was revamped in June 2020.

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Lil Nas X’s “Thats What I Want” returns to its best rank (10-9) and Ed Sheeran’s “Bad Habits” descends 8-10, after reaching No. 2.

Again, for all chart news, you can follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram and all charts (dated March 26), including the Hot 100 in its entirety, will refresh on Billboard.com tomorrow (March 22).

Luminate, the independent data provider to the Billboard charts, completes an exhaustive and thorough review of all data submissions used in compiling weekly chart rankings. AleXa Is Repping for K-Pop and Oklahoma In ‘American Song Contest’

K-Pop” and “Oklahoma” are two words you don’t really think of in the same breath. But one of the 56 artists competing on the Monday (March 21) night series premiere of NBC’s American Song Contest just might change that — AleXa, a K-Pop artist from Tulsa, Okla. Born to a South Korean mother and an American father, she first learned about K-Pop in 2008, through one of her best friends.

“The first group I ever saw was Super Junior – they’re a huge senior group in the K-Pop industry, but my gateway was SHINee,” AleXa tells Billboard. “I’ve been hooked ever since.” She moved to Korea in the first quarter of 2018 and competed on two reality shows, Rising Star and Produce 48. She signed with ZB, a label owned by South Korean video production company Zanybros. Her first single, “Bomb,” was released on Oct. 21, 2019. “It was right before the pandemic hit,” she says. Two more singles followed: “ReviveR” and “Tattoo.” After living in South Korea for four years, AleXa returned to the U.S. this year to compete in American Song Contest.

“My manager is Swedish, so when we received the invitation to audition, we thought, ‘Yes, this is iconic.’ It’s literally Eurovision, but now we’re spreading it to America. It was just a wonderful opportunity and I was so excited to take it.”

AleXa knew about Eurovision from watching videos online by past winners like ABBA and Måneskin, though she has never seen a full broadcast. She did watch the 2022 edition of Melodifestivalen, the Swedish heat to pick the country’s song for Eurovision, because Moa (Cazzi Opeia) Carlebecker, one of the writers of her ASC entry “Wonderland,” was competing as an artist and she facilitated AleXa’s entry into ASC. “It helped that I had worked with Cazzi. Then all of these wonderful creatives came together and the song was presented to us. I fell in love with it immediately and we knew we had to go with that song.”

Swedish hitmaker Andreas Carlsson (“I Want It That Way,” Backstreet Boys; “Waking Up in Vegas,” Katy Perry; “Bye Bye Bye,” *NSYNC) became involved with American Song Contest through his friends Peter Settman, Christer Bjorkman and Anders Lenhoff, who sold the idea of an American version of the Eurovision Song Contest to NBC. He has co-written seven of the 56 entries for season one, including “Wonderland.”

“Being close to both the Swedish and Korean K-Pop community, I found the song after listening to hundreds of submissions from my personal network,” Carlsson tells Billboard. “As AleXa could possibly be the first American K-Pop sensation, the song had to appeal to American audiences without alienating her Korean fans. There is a specific formula to K-Pop that must be considered when creating the song. I eventually ended up as a co-writer on the song as it had to be a bit more westernized. Then writer Bekuh Boom came into the mix with some brilliant topline ideas and everyone felt we had something special. Sometimes it takes a lot of chefs to serve up something extraordinary.”

Those chefs include songwriters Albin Nordqvist, Ellen Berg and Carlebecker. “We originally wrote ‘Wonderland’ for the Korean market, where we have been working regularly for years,” Nordqvist tells Billboard. “We weren’t aware of the existence of American Song Contest at that time. Andreas reached out because he was asked to find songs for the already established AleXa, who was known to us since Moa and Ellen had already written songs for her. Andreas helped us adapt the melodies, lyrics and arrangement for the U.S. market, together with American writer Bekuh Boom. Andreas and Bekuh are familiar with both the U.S. and Korean markets.”

Asked why Swedish songwriters have had so much success in K-Pop, Carlebacker and Berg told Billboard in a statement, “We believe it’s a mix of several reasons such as socio-economic factors like education being free in Sweden. Learning to play an instrument, singing in a choir, learning about music production and song writing, performing and playing in a band is encouraged from a very young age. Having the opportunity to truly focus on your art and creativity, without having to pay for an expensive education, makes it easier to dedicate your time and effort to pursue an international music career. The Swedish specialty for creating highly addictive rhymes and pop melodies (which are very important in K-Pop) might be a magic ingredient, on top of that we are meticulous, hard-working, have great work ethics and always strive to deliver songs of the highest quality possible.”

Since Carlebecker had just competed herself in Melodifestivalen, Billboard wanted to know what advice she would give to AleXa before her performance tonight in American Song Contest. “I would tell AleXa to have fun and enjoy every single moment of this crazy experience,” the writer who performs as Cazzi Opeia responded. “With a competition like this comes a lot of pressure and she will probably be nervous, but at the same time it will be so much fun. The whole thing is over extremely fast, so enjoy every step of the way and remember to take it all in. Don’t think about the show as a competition, just focus on your vocal performance and your dance routines, and you will be fine. The American Song Contest is a fantastic TV show and will be a memory for life.”

The only American songwriter on “Wonderland,” Bekuh Boom has written for Jordin Sparks, Blackpink and Jennifer Lopez. She toplined AleXa’s entry, meaning she wrote lyrics and melody, except for the bridge. Talking to Billboard about American Song Contest, she said, “I’m very excited to see people’s reaction to the show. I hope it shines more light on the songs and their meaning and I think we’re getting to a place where more people are caring about not just the song but the people and meaning behind it. I hope this shift will start to translate in the way songwriters specifically are treated and compensated in the future and it’s exciting to have artists and songwriters shining together. I’m very excited for AleXa and wish her all the best.”

As for AleXa, she let Billboard know what she would tell viewers about her American Song Contest performance. “Expect the unexpected. My song is a pop-infused urban track, paying homage to Latin beats but definitely bringing the K-Pop element to the sound and visuals. I hope that people feel the energy and the fun that I have onstage. I’m just really proud of representing Oklahoma and the K-Pop community.”

Finally, we had to ask AleXa the most important question of all: what happens when she’s in a room where people say her name out loud? “The funny thing about that is I personally have [an Amazon device] and my parents have one as well, so any time we’re doing a FaceTime call and I say my stage name or my folks say my stage name, Alexa says, ‘Sorry, I didn’t get that.’ And we just say, ‘Stop, we weren’t talking to you.’”

Earlier this year, he issued a statement asking his former Smiths bandmate Johnny Marr to stop mentioning him when giving interviews.

“Would you please, instead, discuss your own career, your own unstoppable solo achievements and your own music? If you can, would you please just leave me out of it,” he wrote before going on to say “we haven’t known each other for 35 years – which is many lifetimes ago. When we met you and I were not successful. We both helped each other become whatever it is we are today.  Can you not just leave it at that.”

In response, Marr took to Twitter and directly addressed Morrissey, writing: “An ‘open letter’ hasn’t really been a thing since 1953, It’s all ‘social media’ now. Even Donald J Trump had that one down. Also, this fake news business… a bit 2021 yeah?”

Fender’s UK and European arena tour continues tonight (March 21) in Liverpool at the M&S Bank Arena, with two dates at London’s Wembley Arena set for early April.

Following his run of arena dates, he will play his biggest show yet at Finsbury Park in London this summer. Support will come from the likes of Fontaines D.C.Declan McKennaBeabadoobee and Goat Girl.

Meanwhile, Fender recently discussed how kids who bullied him at sixth form are now asking him to play their weddings, to which he had a very succinct reply.

“There was a corner of the common room that they used to call peasants’ corner, and that’s where I used to sit,” he recalled. “But they’re all asking us to play their weddings now. And I subsequently tell them all to fuck off. It’s wonderful.”

This month also saw Fender take home the Best Album In The World and Best Album By A UK Artist statues at the BandLab NME Awards 2022 for ‘Seventeen Going Under’. He also opened the ceremony with a performance of the record’s title track.
