Adele is a mega-star who could likely afford to buy just about anything she wants. But in a recent Vogue “73 Questions with Adele” video the singer revealed that her most prized possession is something you would likely find on the underside of your desk in 10th grade: a chewed up wad of gum. But not just any ABC gum.

“James Corden, who’s a friend of mine, also does ‘Carpool Karaoke,’ which I did. He did it with [Dion] and knew how much of a fan of her I was. So he made her spit her gum into a piece of paper and he framed it for me. It’s my proudest possession,” Adele told the magazine in the 18-minute interview, which also found her talking about whether she’ll ever tour again, revealing the advice John Mayer gave her after vocal surgery and the story of how she busted her Grammy in half in honor of her queen, Beyoncé.

The “Easy on Me” singer called the Celine keepsake “pretty amazing” in the interview, before handing over a framed photo that was labeled “Céline Dion’s gum.”

On Thursday night’s Late Late Show, Corden told the full tale of the unusual gift. “That is a true story,” he said after watching the Vogue bit. “The weekend before we had shot it [‘Carpool’] we went on a little weekend away to Mexico, my family, [Adele], her son and we spent a weekend together. And the following Friday I was shooting the ‘Carpool’ with Céline Dion and Adele just loves Céline Dion.”

Corden said he and Adele were discussing her obsession with Dion and how she’d met her once and was totally star-stuck, which rarely happens to Adele. So once Corden was in the car with Dion, they were just about to get moving and Céline had to spit out her gum. Not knowing where to put it, she asked Corden, who grabbed a page from a script on back seat and tore off a section for Céline to deposit her Double Mint.

“I ripped off a piece and she put it in and I said, ‘I will take that’… because, you know, she was about to do the fold,” he explained. “I said, ‘I got it, I got it, I got it.’ I then had to give it to [show producer Diana Miller] and I was like, ‘I need to keep this super safe!’ And she took it and looked at me like, ‘I think this is the day he’s lost his mind.’ And I said, ‘Please keep it safe.’”

And he did keep it and then gave it to Adele for her birthday. “Because… difficult person to buy for,” he said of his pal. “A candle doesn’t cut it.”
