Don Toliver collects his highest-charting effort on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart as Life of a Don debuts at No. 2 on the list dated Oct. 23. The set begins with 68,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 14 in the U.S., according to MRC Data.
Of the album’s first-week total, just over 49,000 units derive from streaming-album equivalents – representing 64.1 million on-demand streams of the set’s tracks. 18,000 arrive from traditional album sales (making it the top-selling album of the week, bowing at No. 1 on Top Album Sales) and the remaining few hundred units come through track-equivalent units. (One unit equals the following levels of consumption: one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams for a song on the album.)
Life is billed as Don Toliver’s second full-length studio album. His debut release, Heaven or Hell, entered and peaked at No. 5 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in March 2020.
Elsewhere, Life starts at No. 2 on both Top Rap Albums and all-genre Billboard 200. On both charts, and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, it trails only Drake’s Certified Lover Boy.
The album’s most-streamed track for the week, “Flocky Flocky,” featuring Travis Scott, also launches on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at No. 15. The latest offering from the frequent collaborators registered 9.4 million U.S. streams in the week ending Oct. 14, prompting a No. 8 entry on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs.
Two more Life cuts appear on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs: the new release “Way Better” at No. 39, and the album single “What You Need,” which re-enters at No. 40 for its second overall week on the list and had reached a No. 34 best upon its debut in May.
Activity surrounding Life and its songs triggers Don Toliver’s No. 5 return on the Billboard Artist 100, which ranks artist popularity through a blend of four music consumption metrics – album sales, track sales, radio airplay, streaming – and social media fan interaction. His current rank easily rewrites his career best showing, previously a No. 30 peak in March 2020 due to interest around Heaven or Hell’s release.
