Cardi B has outed herself as a fan of You star Penn Badgley. On Sunday (Oct. 17), the “WAP” rapper took to Twitter to fangirl over the former Gossip Girl star, who revealed that he appreciates her unique approach to social media.
A Cardi fan account posted a clip of Badgley, who was seen speaking at Netflix’s “In Conversation with YOU” event in Manila, Philippines, and discussed the negative way in which his You character, Joe Goldberg, uses social media and connected it to his own inability to succeed at using social media apps in effective ways.
“I think Joe reveals the unsettling logic that actually a lot of us are following in the worst way socially. But I think in the best way, it is a tool and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that tool at all,” Badgley explained, later adding, “When I try to do something on social media, it’s pathetic.”
He continued, “I really appreciate people who have this totally second nature relationship to it, because that’s when you have something meaningful and substantive to post, then I think it really comes through and people appreciate it all the more. Cardi B is a great example of that. She has such an authentic relationship. To me, it’s this incredibly nuanced place to be and despite what many might judge as antics, I feel she has an incredibly authentic relationship to that, and I think that’s why people like her so much.”
Upon seeing the clip on Twitter, Cardi replied with a hilarious response that proved her super fan status. “OOOOMMFFFGGGGGG HE KNOWS ME !!!OMMMGGGG!!!!!!Yoooo like I’m famous famous,” she replied to the tweet, despite having five No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and being a Grammy award winner. The actor responded to Cardi’s tweet on Oct. 19 with a simple “I-,” indicating his disbelief.
