First Look At The UNION LA x Air Jordan 2 “Rattan”

First teased in late October, UNION Los Angeles‘ impending Air Jordan 2 collaboration has recently appeared in both official and unofficial images. The former has already confirmed the launch of a “Grey Fog” colorway, while unauthorized in-hand shots suggest the accompanying “Rattan” option is also on pace to release during the 2021 holiday season.

Akin to its collaborative co-star, the newly-surfaced pair differs in color-blocking than was depicted on initial mock-ups. A mix of high-quality suede and canvas make up the bulk of the retro’s upper, with “Rattan” and “Beach” covering everything from mudguard to spine. Hits of “Orange Peel” and “Siren Red” participate in Chris Gibbs and company’s interpretation of the second-ever Air Jordan model, but only play supporting roles at the profiles and collar. Now-signature “UN/LA” tags mark their territory on the lateral sidewall, while perforations around the heel paneling introduce the California-based label’s new design D.N.A. Manufacturing-like labels are stitched onto the lateral collar, boasting an “HO21” text that establishes a Holiday 2021 drop (if logistical issues are sorted out). Underfoot, sole units match the aforementioned label as they indulge in an off-white yellow that surely contributes to the Jordan 2‘s yet-to-be-disclosed backstory.

Enjoy the best look yet at the pair here below, and anticipate a Nike SNKRS launch soon.

For confirmed release dates, check out the “Cool Grey” 11 set to return for the whole family on December 11th.

Nike Outfits The Air Max 90 In Green Snakeskin For Kids

As the Nike Air Max 90 inches closer to its 32nd anniversary, it’s emerged in handfuls of non-original, but compelling styles. Recently, Tinker Hatfield’s iconic design has indulged in green snakeskin paneling and pink flair atop a kid’s-exclusive ensemble.

Although the newly-surfaced pair maintains the model’s standard mesh base, synthetic leather and TPU components, it also boasts scale-like overlays throughout most of its upper. The detail could nod to an upcoming animal-inspired Nike Sportswear collection as other Air Max options have recently appeared with bold prints and patterns. As if the turquoise-reminiscent scales didn’t make bold enough of a statement on their own, the sneakers also feature pink flair across branding and TPU panels. Together, each detail creates an arrangement sure to turn a new generation on to the genius of the Air Max 90.

Enjoy official images of the kid’s pair here below, and anticipate a Nike.com launch in the first half of 2022.

Kanye West reflects on his troubled marriage and failed presidential bid in Thanksgiving prayer

Kanye West has shared a lengthy Thanksgiving prayer.

READ MORE: Kanye West – ‘DONDA’ review: some gems among lots – and lots – of filler

The post, which features his Sunday Service choir, addresses his separation from Kim Kardashian, his mental health and bid to become president.

“Hello, my name is Ye and this is my super super super super super long Thanksgiving prayer,” the rapper, now legally known as Ye, said.

“On this Thanksgiving, I’m so thankful for family, my blood family, my fans, and our haters – we love you too, on Thanksgiving and Christmas morning, not the night before or the day, just the morning.”

“All I think about every day is how I get my family back together and how I heal the pain that I’ve caused. I take accountability for my actions.”

He continued: “Good Lord, my wife did not like me wearing the red [Make America Great Again] hat. Being a good wife, she just wanted to protect me and our family. I made me and our family a target by not aligning with Hollywood’s political stance, and that was hard for our marriage,” Ye admitted.

West also went on to talk about his failed run for US President, in 2020.

“Then I ran for president without proper preparation and no allies on either side,” he added. “I embarrassed my wife in the way that I presented information about our family during the one and thank God only press conference.”

The rapper also addressed previously being hospitalised “for his own health and safety”  back in 2016.

He added: “I went into a manic episode in 2016 and I was placed under heavy medication. Since then I went on and off the medication which left me susceptible to other episodes which my wife and family and fans have had to endure.”

It comes after West addressed his mental health earlier this month, touching on his frustrations towards the popular narrative that he’s “crazy”.

Meanwhile, his Sunday Service choir recently covered Drake‘s 2018 hit ‘God’s Plan’, after the two rappers called an end to their longstanding feud.

Adele has reportedly been approached for a Netflix special

Adele has reportedly been approached by Netflix for a special on her comeback.

READ MORE: Adele-ageddon! ‘30’ marks lockdown four for music

The documentary would feature footage from her forthcoming BST Hyde Park shows next year, according to The Sun.

The singer-songwriter recently featured in specials on CBS and ITV.

“Adele is the most in-demand woman of the moment and Netflix thinks it could create something really special with her,” a source told the newspaper.

“Her team have been approached about a possible multi-million-pound film that would chart her comeback and huge BST shows next July. At the moment any plans for a world tour are on ice because of COVID and this film could bring Adele live closer to fans who weren’t able to get tickets.”

NME has contacted Netflix for confirmation on the project.

Adele meanwhile has claimed that her and Drake are “a dying breed” within the music industry.

“There was like 10 of us. You know, I don’t think there’ll ever be that many of us again at the top doing it the way we were doing it,” she said.

“We came out before streaming. We came out before all the social media frenzies of like, ‘You’ve got five seconds to entertain; otherwise, get out’. We existed in the old school-ness of the industry that we grew up watching and aspiring to [be part of].”

She went on to say that “the whole reason” her and Drake are so close is because of their unique lifestyles.

“Having access to someone else that knows exactly what it’s like to be in a certain position sometimes… If I try and talk to one of my other friends about it, they’ll have no idea what I’m talking about. They’re like, ‘Can’t relate!’ So they just switch off,” she continued.

“I can say something to [Drake] and he won’t judge me for it, you know? So to have access to someone that’s in the same position as [me] is one of the biggest gifts of my entire career.”

Earlier this week, Adele’s latest studio effort ’30’ became the biggest selling album in the US in 2021 after just three days.

In a three-star review of the recordNME wrote: “This devastating level of honesty means that, despite its more experimental moments, ‘30’ still winds up feeling like trademark Adele, in its own way, most of the time. And after fair accusations of playing it safe musically in the past, it’s refreshing to see the pop titan treading braver territory – even if the hit-rate isn’t 100 per cent.”

Check out Mura Masa’s lo-fi new single ‘2gether’

Mura Masa has shared a new track called ‘2gether’ – you can listen to it below.

READ MORE: The NME Big Read – Mura Masa: “If you’re smart right now, you’re making guitar music”

Announced earlier this week, the song marks the first material from the musician/producer (real name Alexander Crossan) since his most recent album ‘R.Y.C.’, which came out in January 2020.

The lo-fi single ushers in “a new chapter” for Mura Masa, who recently said he’d be posting “snips and produccy vids” on TikTok to preview his third record. Further details on the project are yet to emerge.

‘2gether’ features vocals from 19-year-old London-based artist Gretel Hänlyn. “Half a world away/ Feels a little further every day/ Why can’t we talk?/ Save some for me,” she sings in the stripped-back first verse.

But I…/ I just wanted to be (together),” Hänlyn goes on before the track drops into a dubby electronic breakdown.

The new single comes after Mura Masa received a Grammy nomination this week. He appears in the Best Remixed Recording category for his spin on ‘Talks’ by PVA. The 2022 awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on January 31.

“Woke up 2 my 4th Grammy nom, yay congrats [PVA] love u guys,” he wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, it’s been announced that the Guernsey-born artist will perform at Best Kept Secret 2022 alongside The Strokes, Nick Cave and more.

In a five-star review of Mura Masa’s latest album, NME wrote: “‘R.Y.C’ is at its most provocative and memorable when its larger-than-life characters and productions become unhinged and combustible with lust for life.

“Yet Mura Masa’s anxious contemplation of modern-living – the highs, the lows, the lies we tell ourselves to make it all better – hits just as hard.”

La Roux smashes microwave in new video for ‘Damaged Goods’ cover

La Roux has shared the video for her cover of Gang Of Four‘s ‘Damaged Goods’ – you can watch it below.

The singer-songwriter – aka Elly Jackson – recorded her take on the 1979 track for ‘The Problem of Leisure…’, a tribute album to the late Andy Gill. Released over the summer, the project also features IDLES, Warpaint, Gary Numan and more.

READ MORE: Andy Gill – the NME obituary, 1956-2020: The guitar hero who made radical politics danceable

Today (November 25) La Roux dropped the song as part of a new six-track EP that comprises remixes of her ‘Damaged Goods’ cover by Wuh Oh, Disgu!se and F.A.R alongside extended and instrumental cuts.

Additionally, Jackson has referenced Gang Of Four’s microwave-smashing antics from a performance of ‘He’d Send In The Army’ in new accompanying visuals. Donning Gill’s favourite orange coat, she struts around a minimal studio space before unleashing fury with a baseball bat.

The worse for wear kitchen appliance seen in the clip survived one of Gang Of Four’s last tours, while the bat was also previously used by the group.

“When Andy asked me to participate in the album, I was delighted,” Jackson explained. “He was a huge inspiration musically and also a good friend, hilarious and kind, nothing like his granite-faced stage persona.

“It was an honour to work with him and then to be able to celebrate him with this project after his death. We all really felt his presence when we were filming the video.”

Gill’s widow, Catherine, added: “Andy would have loved the remixes as he loved Elly’s cover of ‘Damaged Goods’. Gang of Four always aimed to be danceable as well as dialectical, and Andy was passionate about pop and dance music.

“Well before he got to know Elly, he listened to ‘In For the Kill’ and ‘Bulletproof’ so often that I occasionally complained. (Sorry, Elly).”

Leo Cackett – the director of the new video and a long-time friend and collaborator of Gill – said: “For me it’s all about the performance. I remembered watching a microwave utterly destroyed on stage by Gang of Four and that got me thinking about how much we’d missed live performance – and how much we all miss Andy.

“La Roux is a really powerful performer and I wanted to see what we’d get when we combined all of those elements. What we got was incredible.”

Meanwhile, Gang Of Four are set to embark on a North American headline tour in March 2022. Their new touring line-up features David Pajo (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Slint) and returning bassist Sara Lee.
