“We are the first family of country music. We built a dynasty,” Susan Sarandon’s character Dottie Cantrell Roman can be heard narrating a new preview for the upcoming country music drama series Monarch, which debuts Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022 on Fox. “We do what has to be done to protect the family.”

The clip introduces America’s “first family of country music,” the Romans. Country music star Dottie Cantrell Roman and her husband Albie (portrayed by country music hitmaker and actor Trace Adkins) have built a powerful legacy in the music industry. But when that legacy is threatened, fellow family member Nicolette “Nicky” Roman (portrayed by Anna Friel) is determined to keep the family’s “authentic” reputation intact, as she continues her own ascent into the country music spotlight.

According to Deadline, the series will also include Eva Amurri, Adam Croasdell, Meagan Holder and Josh Sasse, among others.

Sandbox Entertainment president and CEO Jason Owen, whose management client roster includes artists such as Kacey Musgraves, Faith Hill and Little Big Town, serves as executive producer on the project. Owen is also co-president of Monument Records.

Monarch was created by Melissa London Hilfers. Hilfers also serves as writer as well as an executive producer, with Michael Rauch working as showrunner and executive producer. Adam Anders has been named executive music producer for the project. Also serving as executive producers for Monarch are Gail Berman and Hend Baghdady.

The project is the latest from singer, songwriter, author and actor Adkins. Adkins recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his debut album, and in August, released his 13th studio album, The Way I Wanna Go. This year has also seen the release of two other film projects from Adkins, including roles in Apache Junction and Old Henry.
