Taylor Swift passionately brought her 10-minute version of “All Too Well,” from her newly re-recorded Red (Taylor’s Version) album, to Saturday Night Live on Nov. 13.
In the first television performance of the track’s extended version, the 31-year-old pop star took the leaf-covered stage wearing all black and red lipstick while strumming an acoustic guitar as footage from her All Too Well short film played in the background. The stunning SNL performance ended with snow falling above her as the ill-fated relationship ran its course.
The “From the Vault” track is one of nine bonus songs on the just-released Red (Taylor’s Version), the second in Swift’s series of re-recorded albums. Red was originally released in 2012, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
On Friday, the singer-songwriter also released her All Too Well short film, starring Dylan O’Brien (Maze Runner) and Sadie Sink (Stranger Things). Written and directed by Swift, the brief piece portrays a couple whose idyllic romance unexpectedly sours, just like the tortured relationship at the center of the fan-favorite song.
Before taking the stage as the SNL musical guest, Swift joined Pete Davidson for a music video roasting the Please Don’t Destroy comedy trio of Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy. It all started on a nice note, with Davidson pitching a music video to the guys about how they were all “best friends,” but it took a cruel turn when Davidson declared in the rap parody’s chorus: “All my friends are cool and famous — except these three sad virgins.”
