Born Henry Olusegun Adeola Samuel in Paddington, London, Seal rose to fame in the U.K. in the early 1990s. He landed his first hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991 with his single “Crazy” reaching No. 7 on the chart. His self-titled debut studio album reached No. 24 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1991.

Over the course of his career, Seal has notched eight entries on the Billboard Hot 100 including his 1995 hit single “Kiss From a Rose” that spent nine weeks atop the chart. “Kiss From a Rose” also spent 9 weeks at No. 1 on Pop Airplay and 6 weeks at No. 1 on Adult Pop Airplay. The single was originally released on his album Seal II and was later remixed and released on the Batman Forever soundtrack in 1995.

Seal has also made it into the top 50 albums on the Billboard 200 chart 10 times since 1991 including his 2003 release Seal IV that peaked at No. 3.

According to Luminate (formerly MRC Data), Seal’s catalog has logged 379.1 million U.S. streams and his albums have earned a combined 9.1 million equivalent album units and sold 8.4 million copies.

As a songwriter, he has received two prestigious Ivor Novello Awards from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors, for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for hits “Killer“ and “Crazy.“ He has also won three BRIT Awards, four Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.
