Aminé lives the high life in jaunty new single ‘Charmander’

Aminé has returned with an energised new cut titled ‘Charmander’, coming as the Portland rapper’s first new material since last year’s ‘Limbo’ album.

READ MORE: Pulp Fiction tees and pink wigs: Aminé’s best music videos

‘Charmander’ stands out amongst Aminé’s catalogue with a kaleidoscopic soundscape of bubbly synths, chopped-up vocal harmonies and sharp, breakneck-paced 808s.

Aminé himself soars over the mix, rapping on the second verse: “Look, my energy is priceless / Told my jeweller, ‘Ice this’ / I’m way too decisive / Don’t catch that ego-itis / When I’m up in London, everybody say, ‘Your Highness’ / Not because I’m royal but because I be the highest.”

The track arrives alongside a fittingly trippy film clip, directed by longtime collaborator Jack Begert. It shows Aminé living a laidback lifestyle in an idyllic Oregon forest, hanging out with his partner and Clifford-sized poodle.

Take a look at the film clip for ‘Charmander’ below:

In a press release, Aminé explained that he first started working on ‘Charmander’ as a way to expand on the styles he’d honed in on with ‘Limbo’, keen to “experiment and challenge myself to create in ways I hadn’t before, exploring different textures and tempos without any expectations”.

He also noted that ‘Charmander’ was “the first product of that period that felt natural while still being at a completely different BPM than any of my previous work”.

‘Limbo’ was released back in August of 2020, and featured singles ‘Shimmy’, ‘Riri’ and ‘Compensating’. In addition to a Young Thug feature on the latter track, ‘Limbo’ sported collaborations with the likes of JID and Charlie Wilson (‘Roots’), Slowthai and Vince Staples (‘Pressure In My Palms’) and Injury Reserve (‘Fetus’).

A month after the album’s release, Aminé took to the skies to perform a medley of it from a hot air balloon, marking one of the most unique performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live! A deluxe reissue of ‘Limbo’ also landed that December, featuring an additional seven tracks.

Here’s Where Justin Bieber’s ‘Peaches’ & More Top 10 Hits Are Competing for 2022 Grammy Noms

Justin Bieber is probably feeling good about this year’s Grammy Awards process. His smash hit “Peaches” (featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon) is vying for a nomination as best R&B performance. Last year, you may recall, Bieber lodged a public complaint with the Recording Academy when his album Changes and two singles from the album were nominated in pop categories.

It was a politely worded complaint — Bieber is Canadian, after all — but his disappointment was evident.

“To the Grammys I am flattered to be acknowledged and appreciated for my artistry. I am very meticulous and intentional about my music. With that being said I set out to make an R&B album. Changes was and is an R&B album,” he started. “It is not being acknowledged as an R&B album which is very strange to me. I grew up admiring R&B music and wished to make a project that would embody that sound.”

Bieber’s 2021 album, Justice, is also vying for a nod as best pop vocal album, but the victory for Bieber is that his pop/soul jam “Peaches,” which could have gone either way, is competing in R&B — along with such other hits as Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open” and SZA’s “Good Days.” If “Peaches” is nominated, it would be Bieber’s first Grammy nod in an R&B category.

But how about the other songs that were released in this eligibility year (Sept. 1, 2020, to Sept. 30, 2021) and became top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100? Let’s see where they wound up in the 64th annual Grammy Awards process.

Note: Not all top 10 hits are listed here. Artists and their representatives are savvy enough not to flood the zone with multiple entries that could divide their support. So “Drivers License” is Olivia Rodrigo’s only entry for best pop vocal performance. Her other top 10 hits, “Déjà Vu,” “Good 4 U” and “Traitor,” are not listed.

And some artists simply decided not to play the Grammy game. The Weeknd, whose “Blinding Lights” was infamously passed over for a nod last year, didn’t enter his 2021 hit “Take My Breath.”

Some hip-hop hits are slotted in pop rather than rap categories, a sign of hip-hop’s penetration into the pop mainstream. These include Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and Lizzo featuring Cardi B’s “Rumors.”

“Mood” by 24kGoldn featuring Iann Dior was released in the previous Grammy eligibility year. It vied for a best pop duo/group performance nomination last year, but it failed to register (probably because it was released too late in the year to be competitive). A live version is vying for a nod in that same category this year. Live versions of such past hits as Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain” and Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” have won Grammys, so a nod is a possibility. Voters aren’t put off by the designation “(Live)” after a title.

First-round Grammy voting is underway. It began Oct. 22 and runs through Nov. 5. The Grammy nominations will be announced Nov. 23.

Here are the performance categories in which top 10 hits on the Hot 100 are competing. They’re listed in chronological order. Relive the Grammy eligibility year in all its splendor and see what the Grammy screening committee decided was the most suitable category for each of these entries.

24kGoldn featuring Iann Dior, “Mood,” best pop duo/group performance (a live version is entered).

Travis Scott featuring Young Thug and M.I.A., “Franchise,” best melodic rap performance.

Ariana Grande, “Positions,” best pop solo performance (where it is vying for a nod with her “Still Hurting”).

Luke Combs, “Forever After All,” best country solo performance.

Taylor Swift, “Willow,” best pop solo performance.

Justin Bieber, “Anyone,” best pop solo performance.

Olivia Rodrigo, “Drivers License,” best pop solo performance.

SZA, “Good Days,” best R&B performance.

CJ, “Whoopty,” best rap performance.

Cardi B, “Up,” best rap performance.

Lil Tjay featuring 6lack, “Calling My Phone,” best melodic rap performance.

Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak), “Leave the Door Open,” best R&B performance.

Justin Bieber featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, “Peaches,” best R&B performance.

Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” best pop solo performance.

Masked Wolf, “Astronaut in the Ocean,” best melodic rap performance.

Polo G, “Rapstar,” best rap performance.

Doja Cat featuring SZA, “Kiss Me More,” best pop duo/group performance.

The Kid LAROI and Miley Cyrus, “Without You,” best pop duo/group performance.

J. Cole, 21 Savage and Morray, “My Life,” best rap performance.

J. Cole and Lil Baby, “Pride Is the Devil,” best melodic rap performance.

BTS, “Butter,” best pop duo/group performance.

Ed Sheeran, “Bad Habits,” best pop solo performance.

Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow, “Industry Baby,” best melodic rap performance.

Lizzo featuring Cardi B, “Rumors,” best pop duo/group performance.

Kanye West, “Hurricane,” best melodic rap performance (the Grammy entry credits featured performers The Weeknd and Lil Baby).

Walker Hayes, “Fancy Like,” best country performance.

Drake featuring Future and Young Thug, “Way 2 Sexy,” best rap performance.

Drake featuring Lil Baby, “Girls Want Girls,” best melodic rap performance.

Wizkid featuring Justin Bieber and Tems, “Essence,” best global music performance (the Grammy entry doesn’t credit Bieber).

J. Cole Celebrates His Beloved Catalog During Intimate L.A. SiriusXM & Pandora Show

“One time for my L.A. sisters, one time for my L.A. h–s,” J. Cole’s voice rumbled during his performance of “No Role Modelz” in the intimate 500-capacity Roxy Theater in West Hollywood, Calif., on Saturday night. But the Fayetteville, N.C., rapper did it two times for his L.A. fans last week, as Saturday’s performance, which was part of SiriusXM and Pandora’s Small Stage Series, came two nights after his The Off-Season Tour stop at Inglewood’s Forum arena.

The coziness of Cole’s concert was all-too palpable for the artist himself, sweating through his orange tee but breezing through his decade-long discography and assuring concertgoers not to sweat it if they didn’t know his tracks bar-for-bar (while warning them not to fake it by mouthing his lyrics). The 36-year-old rhapsodist then broke down the significance of having a catalog before reliving his own, which includes six Billboard 200 No. 1 albums.

He powered through the highlights from his latest album The Off-Season during the hourlong set, such as “9 5 . s o u t h,” “m y . l i f e,” and “p r i d e . i s . t h e . d e v i l.” Then Cole amped up the crowd with fan favorites, including “Work Out” and “Nobody’s Perfect” from his 2011 debut studio album Cole World: The Sideline Story, “Power Trip” from 2013’s Born Sinner and “Wet Dreamz” and “G.O.M.D.” from 2014 Forest Hills Drive.

While his Dreamville labelmates Bas, Ari Lennox, Earthgang, J.I.D, Cozz and Lute & Omen reunited for the first time since the 2019 inaugural Dreamville Festival at Colorado’s Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, their label boss brought the house down on his own, proving that even without his home team, his pen game would carry him to victory.

For Cole fans unable to attend his exclusive SiriusXM and Pandora’s Small Stages set, they can catch the action on SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation (channel 44) and on the SXM app Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m. ET.

Davido has announced that he’ll be heading to London next year for a huge headline show at The O2.

The Afrobeat star took to Instagram today (October 25) to reveal that he will returning to London on March 5 for an “even bigger” show than any of his previous put on in the capital.

“It is time! London You wanted it even bigger, you wanted it even better and on the 5th of March, 2022 we make the most beautiful movie ever ! Santa says tickets go live on Friday! Let’s go!” he captioned his post.

Davido’s most recent album is last year’s ‘A Better Time’, which featured appearances from Nicki Minaj, Young Thug, Tiwa Savage and Nas.

Speaking to NME on the latter, Davido said his ‘Birthday Cake’ collaboration with Nas came after the pair met in a toilet.

“I met Nas in the bathroom. Facts,” he said. “It was in LA. I met him in the bathroom and I just chopped it up. He was in Studio A, I was in Studio B. We just clicked in the bathroom.

“Then I went back into the studio, I was making the song, he came in and I was like: ‘Yo, can I get a verse?’ He said yeah and I was like: ‘Ohhh shit!’”

In a four-star review of ‘A Better Time’, NME‘s Kevin EG Perry wrote: “At a time when feel-good moments are at a premium, ‘A Better Time’ makes a convincing case that the problems of the world really might just melt away – even if only momentarily – though a sense of escapism and the enduring powers of art and pop music. Just put yourself in Davido’s hands.”

System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian “happy” he was vaccinated after contracting COVID

System Of A Down‘s Serj Tankian has said that he’s “happy” he was vaccinated after testing positive for COVID-19 last week.

READ MORE: System Of A Down’s new anthems of rebellion are arena-ready calls for justice

The frontman’s diagnosis forced the band to postpone a pair of shows in Los Angeles at the weekend, both of which were alongside Korn, Helmet and Russian Circles. The gigs have been rescheduled to February 2022.

Taking to social media today (October 25) to thank fans for their outpouring of well wishes, Tankian wrote: “I am overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the outpouring of love and concern from friends and strangers alike. I am doing well and hoping to be clear of all symptoms soon. I believe that being vaccinated helped minimize my symptoms and suffering.”

He continued, “We have many in our community who are resistant to the vaccine. I do understand and am not someone who takes sides on this issue. I think every medical situation requires proper understanding of the patients gender, age, medical history and preconditions. Vaccines should be no different and their side effects taken into serious consideration.

“The health industry cannot operate as a one size fits all on anything anymore. It’s medically irresponsible. That said I’m happy I along with my elder parents are vaccinated. Thank you again for all the love.”

Earlier this month, System Of A Down performed their first new songs in 15 years, ‘Genocidal Humanoidz’ and ‘Protect The Land’, for the first time.

The concert, their first since July 2019, took place in Las Vegas and saw them perform the vast majority of their 2001 album ‘Toxicity’, in celebration of the record’s 20th anniversary.

Meanwhile, Rick Rubin has recalled a huge fight between the members of System Of A Down over their notorious “tapeworm” lyric.

The band’s song ‘Needles’, from their iconic 2001 album ‘Toxicity’, features the immortal lyric, “Pull the tapeworm out of your ass.”

In a recent episode of Rubin’s Broken Record podcast, the Toxicity producer reminisced with the band’s frontman about the lyric, and the mighty argument that followed, with Rubin believing that it could’ve broken the band up on its own.

Midlake announce first new album in eight years, ‘For The Sake Of Bethel Woods’

Midlake have announced their return with the release of a new album called ‘For The Sake Of Bethel Woods’ – listen to lead single ‘Meanwhile…’ below.

Set to arrive on March 18 via Bella Union, the release marks the Texan folk rock band’s first new LP since 2013’s ‘Antiphon’.

“Album Announce Day is finally here!” the band wrote on Instagram earlier today (October 25). “For The Sake of Bethel Woods will release March 18 on @atorecords stateside and @bella_union overseas.

“Although there will be some time before experiencing the full LP, here’s the album cover, live concert dates, tour merch, and a single among other things that you can experience NOW! We love y’all and thank you for all the love and support then and now. We are so very excited to be back and can’t wait to see you soon. Let’s Goooooo!”

The ‘For The Sake Of Bethel Woods’ artwork has particular relevance, featuring keyboardist/flautist Jesse Chandler’s father, who passed away in 2018 and played a part in Midlake reforming.

Frontman Eric Pulido explained: “He was a lovely human, and it was really heavy and sad, and he came to Jesse in a dream. I reference it in a song. He said, ‘Hey, Jesse, you need to get the band back together.’ I didn’t take that lightly. We had already had these feelings with everyone in the band of, oh, this could be a cool thing to do. But the dream was a kind of beautiful depiction of a purpose to reconvene and make music together as friends.”

You can listen to the album’s lead single ‘Meanwhile…’ below:

News of the band’s new album also comes with a run of UK shows announced for April 2022. You can get tickets here and see the full list of dates below.

A$AP Rocky’s debut mixtape ‘LIVE.LOVE.A$AP’ is finally coming to streaming services

A 10th anniversary edition of A$AP Rocky‘s acclaimed debut mixtape ‘LIVE.LOVE.A$AP’ is coming to streaming services this week.

READ MORE: Slowthai and A$AP Rocky’s new song ‘MAZZA’ is an ode to getting back to the old you

The 2011 project, which featured the Harlem rapper’s breakout records ‘Peso’ and ‘Purple Swag’, will be added to DSP’s on Friday (October 29) with the inclusion of a new song called ‘Sandman’, produced by Kelvin Krash and Clams Casino.

‘LIVE.LOVE.A$AP’ arrived after Rocky famously signed a $3million deal with RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music after a bidding war was launched for him. In January 2013, he released his debut studio album ‘Long. Live. A$AP’.

The anniversary edition of ‘LIVE.LOVE.A$AP’ will be missing three tracks from the original: ‘Keep It G’, ‘Kissin’ Pink’ and ‘Out of This World’.

You can check out a video announcing the release, which looks back at the impact of the mixtape, below.

Rocky is among several rappers who have added their old mixtapes to streaming services in recent years. Wiz Khalifa added ‘Kush & Orange Juice’ to DSPs a couple of years ago, followed soon after by Big K.R.I.T.‘s ‘K.R.I.T. Wuz Here’,  Lil Wayne‘s ‘No Ceilings’ and Big Sean’s ‘Detroit’.

Earlier this month, Mac Miller‘s 2014 mixtape ‘Faces’ arrived on streaming services.

Originally released as a free project on May 11, 2014 (Mother’s Day in the US that year), the tape features appearances from Schoolboy Q, Rick Ross, Thundercat, Vince Staples, Mike Jones, Earl Sweatshirt and more.

In July, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were spotted shooting a new music video together in New York City. The pair recently confirmed they were dating after years of on-and-off speculation about their relationship, with Rocky also revealing that he has been busy at work on new music with the singer.

Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky has shared a snippet of a new track in a recent advert for PacSun, the California-based clothing company that Rocky was recently named a guest Creative Director of.

Lil Nas X, Alison Wonderland, Cooler Temps & Less Sunlight: 10 Key Moments From EDC Las Vegas 2021

As Kaskade began his set just after midnight on the final night of Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, fans gathered as far as the eye could see for the festival’s big moment: the headliner, on the main stage, on the last night of an event commemorating both 10 years of EDC in Las Vegas, 25 years since the festival first launched in Los Angeles, and the return of mass dance events in the U.S. amid the lingering pandemic.

It was a big moment at a show that has long prioritized size. This year, the dance mega-festival’s expanded footprint hosted 150,000 fans per day at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway from Oct. 22-24. Throughout the weekend, a sea of totems, flags and signs added to the cacophony of sights and sounds that made up the scene at Las Vegas’ biggest music event of the year. These fan-made elements were added to the drone shows and fireworks displays that set the night sky on fire each evening during the event.

Indeed, after a 17-month hiatus due to the pandemic, EDC roared back into town with its thumping bass, groovy trance and many other varieties of dance and electronic music. The festival has come a long way since it first moved to the desert from Los Angeles in 2011 — with classic moments like the 2012 evacuation of the festival due to a windstorm, or the Red Bull Sky Dive team floating into the fest, or when Bryan Cranston appeared during Above & Beyond’s 2015 set as his his infamous character Walter White — commemorated throughout the weekend.

Of course, many new memories were made as well. Here are 10 standout moments from the weekend.

A Zenner EDC

The theme for 2021 was kineticZEN, a great idea considering the kind of year many of us had in 2020. This theme played out in a big way at EDC’s always massive kineticFIELD stage, the reveal of which is a highlight of the event each year. For kineticZEN, the Insomniac owl on the stage was nestled in a lotus blossom guarded by two statuesque deities. The Marquee nightclub Sky Deck — a partnership with the Strip’s Marquee nightclub that hosts many EDC VIPs — riffed on the theme with a Balinese design and a grotto for photo opps. Meanwhile, a nightly drone show highlighted some of kineticFIELD’s stage designs from over the years.

Big-Name Sponsors Were Back

While major brands may have shied away in the early days of EDC, now everyone is competing for naming rights. Allegiant Travel — the same company that bought the naming rights to Vegas’ recently opened Allegiant Stadium — had its name all over the the “Rave Terminal.” Meanwhile cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinbase claimed the “Pixel Forest” and Verizon had its own viewing decks.

The Reign of Alison Wonderland

In 2016, Alison Wonderland made history as one of the first two women to play a solo set on the EDC mainstage. (Anna Lunoe also played solo on this same stage in 2016.) Five years later, Alison Wonderland persisted as a major force at EDC with a set that was one of the weekend’s most talked about. Her Friday night performance on the Circuit Grounds stage was everything EDC is known for, with a writhing mass of humanity moving to the huge sounds while fireworks lit the sky above them. Wonderland’s visuals featured feature film style clips with fan commentary, and when the Australian producer’s mixer broke during the set, she fixed it herself and then kept right on playing. That night around 3 a.m., she also jumped on the Parliament art car for a house-only pop-up set.

Loads of Celebs

In addition to the more than 200 DJs playing the show, EDC hosted a bevy of celebs, including Mike Tyson, who hung out with Insomniac Founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella. Pauly Shore showed up at the Marquee Sky Deck, as did Drew Carey, while Brody Jenner arrived by helicopter and played guest bartender, serving his hard seltzer line Mamitas. And only in Las Vegas: Tao Group, which owns Marquee, bused in 200 models to pass out Tao restaurant bento boxes to hungry ravers.

October Weather

While EDC hours are typically billed as “dusk ’til dawn,” that tagline was slightly less accurate this year, given the event’s postponement from May to October. This time, EDC’s standard hours — 6 p.m.-6 a.m. — meant that the event started just after sunset and that the sun didn’t fully rise until about an hour after the show ended each morning. The calendar shift also meant cooler temperatures, with the event’s typically warm May nights being traded for early morning temperatures that dipped into the high 50s. This fall weather meant that the typically scantily clad EDC crowd (think pasties, tutus and not a whole lot else) instead opted for faux fur coats and, in more DIY sartorial choices, emergency mylar thermal blankets worn as capes.

EDC in the COVID Era

With EDC having been postponed from May to October due to shifting protocols around the pandemic, safety was top of mind given the massive crowd. Attendees were advised to bring either a copy of their vaccination card, a digital vaccine record or negative test results, although one report from the general admission area noted that no one on the security staff asked to see any of this information upon entry. (A test result was, however, requested upon entering the VIP Skydeck area.) We also witnessed very little masking, perhaps an irony given that masks are a typical fashion staple at any given EDC.

Ten Years of Tiësto

Billed as the only artist to have played all 10 years of EDC Las Vegas, the dance scene veteran took the kineticFIELD stage on Saturday night to play hits including “Split” and “The Business.”

Camp EDC Rises Again — With a Few Complaints

Camp EDC is the festival’s camping area located in the parking lot of the Motor Speedway, and it’s grown in popularity since its 2018 debut, offering amenities like goat yoga, kandi making, a pool and daytime parties. Divided into tents and an RV area, there were some complaints over the weekend as this year tents were not outfitted with air conditioning units, as they have been in years past. Those that filed a complaint with Insomniac were notified that air conditioning wasn’t offered due to the fact that cooler October temperatures did not necessitate it. On Thursday, a broken water pipe also caused some issues at Camp EDC, although water services were restored before the end of the day.

Surprises Galore

This year, Lil Nas X appeared onstage with Diplo to perform “Industry Baby,” “Montero” and “Old Town Road,” while The Kid LAROI popped up during DJ Snake’s set to do “Stay.” Diplo in fact played three times over the weekend, including an unannounced set appearance on the Forest House art car. Illenium, who wasn’t on the lineup at all, also turned up for a surprise set on this same art car.

Legal Weed, or at Least Advertisements for It

While it’s legal to possess up to an ounce of marijuana for personal use in Las Vegas, the law dictates that use of cannabis is only legal on private property. But while cannabis wasn’t legally allowed at EDC, that didn’t stop the consumption or promotion of it, with a giant blunt art installation advertising Insomniac’s recently launched cannabis strain, RNBW.

All Day I Dream Announces Inaugural Festival

After hosting hundreds of parties in 38 locations around the world over the last 11 years, Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream party is expanding into festivals.

The inaugural All Day I Dream Festival will happen May 12-15, 2022, at the Woodward Reservoir in Oakdale, California — located approximately two hours east of San Francisco. The location for this weekend-long camping event was selected for its proximity to both San Francisco and Los Angeles, both core hubs for the ADID community.

A representative for the event notes that, “Lee loves this venue specifically, and of course California’s weather makes it an ideal place for outdoor events.” The lineup for All Day I Dream Festival is forthcoming.

After a pandemic-forced hiatus, All Day I Dream parties returned this year with residencies in Mykonos and Ibiza and events in New York, London, Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver and San Francisco. Burridge’s label of the same name also scored recent successes with 2021 releases from Sébastien Léger, Amonita, Fulltone, Lost Desert, Tim Green and Burridge himself.

Sonny Osborne, Bluegrass Banjoist Behind ‘Rocky Top,’ Dies at 84

Bluegrass musician and singer Sonny Osborne, whose fast banjo licks turned “Rocky Top” into a hit with The Osborne Brothers, has died. He was 84.

Alison Brown, a Grammy-winning banjo player, told The Tennessean that Osborne died on Sunday. His death was first announced on the website Bluegrass Today, where Osborne was a columnist.

With his older brother Bobby, who sang and played the mandolin, the bluegrass legends were inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, won a CMA Award and helped popularize and modernize the genre.

“Rocky Top,” written by songwriting couple Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, was released in 1967, but they had no idea how big the song would become. It became an anthem for the University of Tennessee-Knoxville football team and became one of the official state songs of Tennessee.

“At one time we would open the show with it and then play it again at the end,” Osborne told The Tennessean in 2017. “It was phenomenal, that song. We went to Japan, Sweden, Germany — you’d go anywhere and they’d know ‘Rocky Top.’ It put our name out in front. And it stayed there a long time.”

Osborne has also been credited as an innovator in the genre, using double banjos and six-string banjos onstage and in recordings. The Osborne Brothers also pushed boundaries, using electric guitars and drums, playing on college campuses and even the White House. They also changed up the normal harmony sound by having Bobby Osborne sing high lead in his tenor voice, with Sonny singing baritone and a third interchangeable singer on low tenor, creating a signature stacked vocal style.

Other songs they were known for include “Ruby Are You Mad” and “Tennessee Hound Dog.”

The Stadium Goods x BAPE STA “Lexington Grey” Releases Tomorrow

It hasn’t been long since A BATHING APE revived the BAPE STA. But in that short time, the Japanese label has done well to bring the silhouette back to form, introducing a new mold far more reminiscent of the original from two decades ago. Additionally, collaborations have started to roll out more frequently, enlisting everything from celebrities to notable retailers like Stadium Goods.

Tomorrow, the New York based shop will officially debut their own BAPE STA, which casts the model in a simple “Lexington Grey” colorway. What the team aimed to achieve is intentionally unassuming, a subversion of what the shoe became signature for throughout its longstanding run. Dark and light shades of grey are applied to the premium suede and mesh, respectively, complementing the leather “STA” logo, matching heel tab, and the branded fixtures adjacent. Black, then, runs across the tread underfoot, while the midsole proffers a vintage-akin yellowing.

Enjoy another look at the pair below. If you’re hoping to try your luck, they’re releasing at 12PM EST tomorrow (10/26) through StadiumGoods.com and the Stadium Goods App.

If you take an L, the Stadium Goods x SK8 STA is releasing October 29th.
