Listen to “Weird Al” Yankovic’s accordion-only cover of Sparks classic

“Weird Al” Yankovic has paid homage to the great Sparks, dropping an accordion take on their classic song, ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us’.

While Sparks’ original 1974 single regales with the flair and experimentation heard throughout rock ‘n’ roll in that decade, Yankovic’s version, by contrast, is completely void of vocals.

Yankovic also shared a straightforward, monochrome video conflicting with the frenzied tone of his accordion as he puts own quirky spin on the distinct pop hit.

Listen to Weird Al’s cover below:

And take a listen to Sparks’ original version:

Sparks are the subject of the Edgar Wright film The Sparks Brothers, currently streaming on Netflix. Yankovic’s version of ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us’ is featured on the bonus disc of the documentary’s Blu-Ray release.

“Edgar asked me to bring my accordion to the Q&A session and perform the Sparks classic for him, and I gladly obliged,” Yankovic wrote in the video’s description. “I’m sure I could have played it better, but Edgar was happy with the first take – one and done, baby!”

Yankovic had previously parodied a part of the song in his homage to Sparks, ‘Virus Alert’, from his 2006 album ‘Straight Outta Lynwood’.

Travis Scott on fatal Astroworld crowd crush: “Anytime I can make out what’s going on, I stop the show”

Travis Scott has given an additional statement following the crowd crush at his Astroworld festival that left at least eight people dead, saying that he could “never imagine anything like this happening”.

A “mass-casualty” incident at the Houston festival on Friday (November 5) left at least eight people dead with hundreds more reportedly injured, according to Texas police.

Scott posted a video message on his Instagram Story, saying that he “wants to send out prayers to the ones that was lost last night.”

“We’re actually working right now to identify the families so we can help assist them during this tough time,” he said on Instagram.

“My fans really mean the world to me,” Scott continued, “I always just really want to leave them with a positive experience. Anytime I can make out what’s going on, I stop the show and help them get the help they need.”

After saying he could “never imagine the severity of the situation”, he explained that he and his team have been working closely with the City of Houston, Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department to “get to the bottom of this”.

“If you have any information, please just contact your local authorities,” Scott encouraged.

“I’m honestly just devastated and I could never imagine anything like this happening,” he continued, before closing off by sending his fans love and saying that he’ll do everything he can to keep them updated on the situation.

This is the second statement Scott has delivered on the tragedy, having shared a brief written statement on Twitter. In that post, Scott said he was “absolutely devastated” and said his “prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival”.

Scott’s second message comes after fans who were in attendance at Astroworld shared their experiences on social media, with one claiming that “no one would listen” when they called for help. Videos have been shared of punters trying to get the attention of camera crew, only to be apparently ignored.

The tragedy occurred during Scott’s headlining set at the festival, which was held at Houston’s NRG Park and was attended by 50,000 people. In a statement, Houston Fire Department’s Chief Sam Peña said, “At around 9 or 9:15, the crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage and that caused panic and people were getting injured. HFD transported 17 people to hospitals. 11 of those transported were in cardiac arrest.”

A$AP Rocky opens up about Swedish prison: “That shit was trash”

A$AP Rocky has opened up about being imprisoned in Sweden back in 2019, describing the whole ordeal as “scary” and “trash”.

The rapper gave an interview on Desus & Mero, where the comedians joked about Rocky’s experience being locked up in Sweden two years ago, and following that with the coronavirus pandemic the following year.

“It was a little scary because I wasn’t familiar with that country,” Rocky said. “Then, their rules is different. No bail system, none of that stuff. That shit was trash.”

The Harlem rapper was arrested in July of 2019 in Stockholm on suspicion that he and his entourage had assaulted a man. He was released that August before being found guilty of assault and handed a suspended sentence and ordered to pay damages.

Despite his experience, Rocky joked with the comedians about the prison’s decor, saying “For what it’s worth, though, the IKEA furniture was nice in there.”

Rocky had previously spoken about his incarceration in his recent documentary Stockholm Syndrome, where he revealed that the involvement of former US president Donald Trump “made it a little worse”.

“In reality, I had no problem saying thank you to the man [Trump], especially if he helped me,” Rocky said.

“That’s the narrative they pushin’: that he got me out. And he didn’t free me. If anything, he made it a little worse.”

Rocky also elaborated on his new music, after having previously revealed in May that his new album, tentatively titled ‘All Smiles’, was almost 90 per cent complete.

“I kinda been in the zone,” Rocky told Desus & Mero.

“Trying to isolate from everything, to try and stay focused and try not to be too influenced by everything but still keep my eye on what’s going on and stuff. I just been low-key.”

At the end of last month, Rocky’s debut mixtape ‘LIVE.LOVE.A$AP’ arrived on streaming services following a decade since its initial release.

In July, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were spotted shooting a new music video together in New York City. The pair recently confirmed they were dating after years of on-and-off speculation about their relationship, with Rocky also revealing that he has been busy at work on new music with the singer.

Twin Atlantic explore the impacts of influencer culture in new single ‘Get Famous’

Twin Atlantic have dropped a scathing new single, ‘Get Famous’, that explores the “best and worst” of influencer culture in its lyrics and tongue-in-cheek music video.

READ MORE: Twin Atlantic say their new album is more “lo-fi” and “on the nose”

The band’s vocalist, Sam McTrusty, talked about these sentiments and how they’re demonstrated in the song’s official music video. “Essentially, it’s me having a meltdown,” he said. “I’ve been obsessed with the Instagram account ‘Influencers In The Wild’, which captures the best and worst of how desperate people can be for online clout.

“Makeup tutorials, juicing, landmark tours, kissing pets, posing in all your expensive clothes… it’s all mental, but I can’t seem to pull myself away from it – I’m addicted.”

The accompanying music video for ‘Get Famous’ sees McTrusty emulate a variety of influencer tropes – giving make-up tutorials, juicing, global landmark tours and more.

Watch the video below:

On the music video, McTrusty added: “I [also] became elements of what I hate. Even still, it was fun to make and indulge in all these guilty pleasures.

“Keeping little snippets of setting up and failed attempts was important. Those are the darkest moments of social media that we rarely get to see.”

The track arrives as the third taste of Twin Atlantic’s forthcoming album, ‘Transparency’, due out January 7 2022. McTrusty recently told NME the sixth studio offering would explore a more a more “lo-fi” soundscape, its approach being more “on the nose”.

“I’ve always tried to write honestly about whatever is going on in my life, because then at least you know there’s a solid grounding,” McTrusty said. “I’m a good bit older from when we started, so I’ve probably learned how to just get to the point.”

‘Get Famous’ follows the release of ‘One Man Party’ in September and ‘Bang On The Gong’ the month prior.

January’s release is the follow-up to ‘Power’, which dropped last year. Upon its release, NME gave Twin Atlantic’s fifth album a two-star review, saying it was “sorely undermined by a lack of originality and ideas”.
