BBC Radio 1‘s Annie Nightingale has launched a scholarship to support the next generation of female and non-binary DJs.
Named after the station’s first female DJ and its longest-serving presenter, the Annie Nightingale Presents Scholarship will aid groups that have been “historically underrepresented” in the dance music industry.
Nightingale will choose three recipients for the scholarship each year. The winners will then be given a one-hour slot on BBC Radio 1 on a Saturday night.
The inaugural winners are Peckham-based DJ Martha, Adelaide’s GODLANDS and Bristol-born, London-based LCY. They will appear together on the station this Saturday night (November 6).
Nightingale said: “I was the first-ever female DJ on radio and am now the longest serving presenter of any gender” [via BBC].

“Ever since I began, I have wanted to help other young broadcasters passionate about music to achieve their dreams on the airwaves, and now we at Radio 1 are to put that on a proper footing.”
BBC Radio 1 added that the scheme “aims to celebrate and elevate talented women and non-binary people in the electronic music scene by providing them with a national platform to showcase their taste and expertise”.
Station head Aled Haydn Jones said: “It feels incredibly fitting to have a female dance icon like Annie Nightingale being able to uplift new and exciting DJs to the national stage.
“This has always been very close to Annie’s heart, so we’re pleased to be able to give her this annual opportunity to celebrate the newest ones to watch, and we’re looking forward to hearing what they each bring to the show.”
In other BBC Radio 1 news, Annie Mac left the station this summer after 17 years. Watch her bid farewell with an emotional, teary-eyed sign off here.

Cardi B has been announced as the host of this year’s edition of the American Music Awards, following five of her own wins – and a further 10 nominations – over the years.
READ MORE: How Cardi B squashed the concept of the female rap beef
The news comes after last week’s announcement of the 2021 AMA nominees, with Olivia Rodrigo and The Weeknd leading the pack. Cardi is up for three awards this year, earning nods for Favourite Female Hip-Hop Artist, Favourite Hip-Hop Song and Favourite Music Video (the latter two both for her single ‘Up’).
“When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited,” Cardi said upon today’s (November 2) announcement. “I’m ready to bring my personality to the AMAs stage! Thank you to Jesse Collins, ABC and MRC for making this happen.”
Collins, the AMAs’ executive producer, echoed her excitement. In his own statement, he said: “We are immensely excited to have the dynamic Cardi B bring her infectious energy to the American Music Awards as a first-time host. She will excite the viewers, push the limits and deliver a show that will be remembered forever!”
Cardi’s performance at the ceremony will mark her second in as many years after she took to the AMAs stage in 2018 to perform ‘I Like It’ alongside J Balvin and Bad Bunny.
Billboard also pointed out that Cardi’s stint as host will make 2021 the fifth consecutive year that the AMAs has had a Black female host, following actress Tracee Ellis Ross (who hosted in 2017 and 2018), R&B artist Ciara (2019) and actress Taraji P. Henson (2020).
This year’s ceremony will take place at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on November 21, airing live on ABC at 8pm ET (1am GMT) and streaming the next day on Hulu.
The 2021 American Music Awards covers the period between September 25, 2020 and September 23, 2021.
Three new categories have been added – Favourite Trending Song, Favourite Gospel Artist and Favourite Latin Duo or Group – while three have also been removed. They are Favourite Social Artist, Favourite Artist – Adult Contemporary and Favourite Soundtrack.

Charli XCX has confirmed the release of her next single ‘New Shapes’, which features both Christine And The Queens and Caroline Polachek – listen to a snippet below.

Earlier today, Charli XCX (real name Charlotte Aitchison) shared a snippet of the track alongside a tweet that said “a delicious new shape’. The video started with the pop star saying, “This one is pretty good,” before playing 20 seconds of music.
The song will be released on Thursday (November 4) and comes after a fair bit of teasing on social media. Last week, Aitchison tweeted “charli, caroline, chris” and the next day, all three artists shared what seemed to be lyrics written in the same font.
“We could fall in love in new shapes,” wrote Aitchison, with Polchek tweeting “fucked if I know how it’s going to end” a few hours later. It was followed up by Christine And The Queens’ Helöise Letissier sharing: “when the morning comes all misty, we fade”.

Back in September, Aitchison shared an image of herself alongside Polachek and Letissier and captioned it “a perfect shape”, with fans speculating a collaboration was on the way.
Charli XCX has previously worked with Christine And The Queens on 2019’s ‘Gone’, which featured on her third album ‘Charli’. Meanwhile, Polachek featured on two ‘Pop 2’ tracks; ‘Tears’ and ‘Delicious’.
Yesterday (November 1), Aitchison shared a list of musicians and producers, with many people speculating that it was a list of collaborators from her upcoming fifth album. Both Polachek and Letissier were included, alongside the likes of The 1975’s George Daniels, Rina Sawayama and long-term collaborator A.G. Cook..
Last month, Charli indicated what fans could expect from the album, telling InStyle the record is “kind of all about sex and sexuality” and “can make people dance and cry at the same time”.
The singer elaborated on those comments a week later, telling fans they can expect “an overload of sexiness” during a recent appearance on The Chart Show on Apple Music 1.

As we come closer to the end of 2021, delays are unfortunately becoming more frequent. Like many of Jordan Brand’s other Holiday offerings, the Air Jordan 9 “Chile Red” is now, too, slated to start the new year rather than help close out the current one. But to tide us over, the Jumpman has at least unveiled official images of the adult size.
The colorway, which dresses most of its fixtures in the titular red, is a bold start to the Spring. And across a few of the panels, like the midsole and leather overlays, this shade is amplified thanks to a glistening polish. Elsewhere, though, the side panels and lace unit are far more matte by comparison, toning down the bold in tandem with the black neutrals that dress the eyelets, pull tab, branding, and tread.
Enjoy a close-up look at these below and get comfortable as we’re a long ways away from February 25th, 2022.
If you’re looking to grab something in the meantime, maybe the Patta Nike Air Max 1 Noise Aqua is to your taste.
