First Look At 2022’s Air Jordan 5 “Easter”

The Air Jordan 5 didn’t celebrate a milestone anniversary in 2021, but that didn’t stop it from arriving in compelling old and new styles throughout the year. As it heads into 2022, Tinker Hatfield’s third-ever design for Michael Jordan’s signature sneaker line continues to build its roster, having appeared in an Easter-friendly colorway.

Expected to release April 2022, the newly-surfaced retro is clad in “Regal Pink,” with “Ghost” and “Copa” accents joining the mix across supporting details. Akin to the highly-popular “Bluebird” pair from October 7th, the upcoming sneakers are a women’s-exclusive sneaker set to feature an all-over suede construction on the upper. A reflective silver finish returns to the top of the tongue, while pastel hues animate collar lining, branding and laces; elsewhere, the mesh profile windows and midsole also indulge in a purplish light blue. Shark teeth-reminiscent components on the sole unit boast a speckled makeup that complement the semi-translucent, vibrant greenish-blue tone that takes over much of the outsole.

Enjoy early in-hand images of the Jordan 5 here below, and anticipate a Nike SNKRS launch in April of the new year.

Air Jordan 3 “Canvas” Officially Unveiled Ahead Of March 2022 Release

First teased in early July, the Air Jordan 3 “Canvas” has officially been confirmed as part of the Air Jordan Spring 2022 collection.

As its moniker suggests, the latest take on Tinker Hatfield’s first-ever design for Michael Jordan’s signature sneaker line is constructed with durable canvas. A light beige “Muslin” color takes over most of the upper, while supporting components along the tongue, at the spine and around the lower heel opt for a deeper yellow that introduces an “aged” look. Surely a nod to Air Jordan heritage, “University Red” flair lands on some of the eyelets and Jumpman logos on the tongue and heel, delivering a color combination that’ll likely lead many consumers to customize the retro with a vintage aesthetic that’s been prevalent across many propositions from NIKE, Inc. Akin to A Ma Maniére‘s “Raised By Women” collaboration from April, the upcoming sneakers replace elephant print overlays at the toe and rear with a tonal grey hairy suede.

Hang tight while you wait for official images to emerge, and anticipate a Nike SNKRS launch in March 2022.

The Kid LAROi Addresses Juice WRLD Death For First Time in Doc: ‘I Was Just Sitting There Panicking’

In an intense scene from the new Juice WRLD documentary Juice WRLD: Into the Abyss, the late rapper’s fellow MC and friend, The Kid LAROi, opens up for the first time about the night 21-year-old Juice died after suffering a seizure at Midway Airport in his native Chicago.

Wearing dark shades and speaking in a halting, emotional tone, the 18-year-old Australian star described his late mentor and “big brother”‘s final moments. The Tommy Oliver-directed documentary debuted on HBO Max last week and amid the tributes to the “Come & Go” rapper born Jarad Higgins, the Kid offered a chilling account of his friend’s passing and the shock and confusion it sent through the team on the tarmac that night.

“I remembered walking off and seeing through the window, the police and s–t, thinkin’ like, ‘What the f–k?’” the Kid LAROi said in the doc. “They said, ‘Everybody get your passports out.’ I was sitting down and Juice was sitting across from me… [Juice WRLD crew member] G Money was sitting right there. I remembered Juice and G Money shook hands.”

Very quickly, as LAROi described it, he “kinda froze” and asked the authorities what he could do to help his friend, whose death was later attributed to oxycodone and codeine toxicity. “He was so ill. I was just sitting there panicking. I was like, ‘What the f–k?’ And at first, we just thought he was having a seizure and then the blood started coming out of his mouth and his nose. Then everybody obviously started freaking out way more then. Then the police came over to us and handcuffed us all. They handcuffed us in a line and they were was like, ‘Get the f–k away from him!’”

LAROi said everyone in Juice’s crew was handcuffed in a line — except for Ally Lotti, the rapper’s girlfriend — with Lotti telling police, “‘Yo, enough.’ They cuffed me and they tellin’ Ally, like, ‘Chill out, he’s fine, chill out.’ We are all lookin’ like, ‘Bro, he’s bleedin’.’”

While traveling home to Chicago on a flight from LA during the early hours of Dec. 8, 2019 the “Lucid Dreams” artist suffered a seizure at the Midway International Airport. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead hours later in what officials deemed an accident.

The young Aussie star and Juice had a long history, with LAROi opening shows for WRLD in Sydney and Melbourne in 2019 — and later signing with Juice’s managers, Grade A Productions. The two also collaborated on the LAROi song “Go” from his debut 2020 F–k Love mixtape. The Kid also later honored his mentor ahead of the first anniversary of his death by releasing their cover of Kim Petras’ “Reminds Me.”

The Weeknd’s Limited Edition ‘Blinding Lights’ NFTs With Billboard Are Up for Auction

The Weeknd is hitting the blockchain. To celebrate “Blinding Lights” becoming the No. 1 song on Billboard’s Greatest Songs of All Time Hot 100 Chart and earning the distinction of being the all-time No. 1 song on the Hot 100 with 90 weeks, the artist born Abel Tesfaye and Billboard are releasing a series of NFTs featuring The Weeknd for auction on Monday, Dec. 20.

The 7-piece animated NFT collection includes four designs: a 1-of-1 NFT featuring The Weeknd’s November 2021 Billboard cover — which announced his Hot 100 achievement — as well as three trading cards inspired by the music video for “Blinding Lights.” Each one is signed by The Weeknd.

“Through this collection, we’re excited to offer music fans a new, innovative format that allows them to engage further with our rankings and deepen their connection to an important milestone in music history,” Julian Holguin, president of Billboard, said in a statement. “The Weeknd’s NFTs capture the excitement that ‘Blinding Lights’ inspires, and music fans and collectors alike will gravitate towards these NFTs and be proud to own them for years to come.”

The collection was created in partnership with Tom Brady’s NFT platform, Autograph, as well as popular NFT marketplace OpenSea, and Karvin Cheung, a Billboard collaborator, trading card veteran and founder of The Infinite. The NFTs go up for auction Dec. 20 at 5 p.m. ET on OpenSea; the auction ends Dec. 23 at 1 p.m. ET. Bids will be accepted in ETH. The Weeknd’s NFT collection is also available to view on Autograph; the singer-songwriter joined Autograph’s board of directors in the fall, and is helping launch its music vertical with his NFT collection.

Ahead of the NFT collection, The Weeknd and Billboard also marked the award-winning artist’s Hot 100 achievement with a “Blinding Lights” trading card collection featuring five different designs by Cheung. “It’s always been a dream of mine to create trading cards for the music industry, especially cards celebrating some of the world’s most renowned artists,” Cheung said at the time. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with Billboard to highlight The Weeknd’s milestone, which will undoubtedly play a role in defining the future of music.” The card packs, which launched Nov. 23, are available on shop.theweeknd.com.

Besides the “Blinding Lights” NFTs and cards, The Weeknd — who was named Billboard‘s No. 5 Greatest Pop Star of 2021 — is keeping busy with his musical endeavors. “Tears In the Club,” his collaboration with FKA Twigs, arrived on Thursday (Dec. 16). Hours later on Dec. 17, “Poison” — his collaboration with Aaliyah for her upcoming posthumous album — made its debut.

The Weeknd has also been teasing that he’s got new music of his own coming up. During an October episode of his Apple Music 1 radio show Memento Mori, he revealed that his next album is done. Teased the artist: “Only thing that’s missing is a couple of characters who are key to the narrative — some people that are near and dear to me, some people that inspired my life as a child and some that inspire me now.”

A release date has not yet been announced for the follow-up to After Hours.

Drakeo The Ruler’s partner speaks out following rapper’s death

Drakeo The Ruler‘s partner has spoken out following the rapper’s death over the weekend.

The Los Angeles artist – real name Darrell Caldwell – died after reportedly being stabbed in the neck at Once Upon A Time In LA Festival on Saturday (December 18). He was 28 years old.

It’s claimed that Caldwell got into an altercation backstage at the event and passed away after succumbing to his injuries. The festival was subsequently shut down, with organisers writing: “All performances are now over.”

Drakeo The Ruler’s partner, Noel, has since reflected on the rapper’s death on Instagram.

“You asked me last Monday. ‘So does this mean we are soulmates’,” she wrote. “They took my baby from me on my birthday. I will never be the same without u my rib. Thank u for the prayers. God give me strength.”

In a follow-up post, she said: “If I had one birthday wish it would be for my man to be bear hugging me one more time. He gave me the best hugs. I don’t see a light at the end of the tunnel right now. I just wish u were here Darrell.”

Later, Noel wrote: “Laying in our bed right now asking God why.” Another message read: “I love u baby.”

“I will miss our spa dates, our Netflix dates, our Malibu nights. Everything,” she added.

Posting a series of images of herself with Caldwell on her main Instagram feed, Noel said: “Darrell you knew everything about me and still loved me. I will miss our drunk nights, our arguments over nothing, u singing Sam Smith to me in the car, holding my hand 24/7, massaging my feet, staring at me while I’m sleeping. This loss is unbearable.

“I will follow you anywhere you lead me. Even if the path is painful to get thru. I know you will be by my side baby.”

Tributes have also poured in from the likes of Snoop Dogg and Drake. “Nah man this sh*t isn’t right for real wtf are we doing,” the latter wrote. “always picked my spirit up with your energy RIP Drakeo.”

Snoop, who was also set to perform at Once Upon A Time In LA, expressed his shock over the incident on Instagram, writing: “I’m saddened by the events that took place last night […].”

“My condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Drakeo the Ruler,” he said, adding “Last night I was in my dressing room when I was informed about the incident and chose to immediately leave the festival grounds. My prayers go out to everyone affected by the tragedy.”

According to the LA Times, police are currently searching for the person responsible for the stabbing. No arrests had been made as of Sunday morning (December 19). “Detectives are still trying to figure things out,” Luis Garcia, an LAPD spokesperson, told the outlet.

Drakeo The Ruler released his debut album ‘The Truth Hurts’ this year after releasing 10 mixtapes between 2015 and 2021.

The 20 Best Latin Albums of 2021: Staff Picks

Despite a challenging 2020, and the live industry coming to a halt, Latin artists never stopped creating music for their fans. As a result, chart-toppers such as Karol G, Eslabon Armado, Anuel AA, Alejandro Sanz, and more, released full-length studio albums in 2021.

While acts like J Balvin, Myke Towers, and Sech opted for ultra-personal albums this year, others such as Rauw Alejandro, Camilo, and Farruko went full experimental, each fusing their signature sounds with genres such as funk, bachata, EDM, and cumbia.

But these weren’t the only artists who dropped notable sets. Below, see our editors’ picks for the best 20 Latin albums of 2021, arranged in alphabetical order by artist.
