Bill Maher to ‘Nevermind’ baby Spencer Elden: “Stop being such a fucking baby”

Actor and comedian Bill Maher has weighed in on the ongoing lawsuit between Nirvana and the star of the band’s iconic ‘Nevermind’ cover.

Earlier this year, Spencer Elden – the child who appears in the artwork – sued the surviving members of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain’s estate, alleging the image was an example of child pornography and sexual exploitation.

Maher hit out an Elden in a recent episode of his HBO talk show Real Time, delivering a monologue where he opined that “the words ‘victim’ and ‘survivor’ have travelled a long way from their original usage”.

“The baby from the Nirvana album says he’s a victim,” Maher continues. “He’s suing Nirvana for lifelong damages. I never thought I’d have to say this to a baby, but stop being such a fucking baby. You’re not a victim. There’s no reason you can’t have a normal, happy life just because people look at you and think, ‘baby penis’. It didn’t hurt Trump.”

Take a look at the full segment from Real Time With Bill Maher below (the section addressing Elden begins at 3:45):

Despite Elden’s lawsuit, which claims he “has suffered and will continue to suffer lifelong damages” from his appearance on the ‘Nevermind’ cover, Nirvana recently announced a deluxe reissue of the album in commemoration of its 30th anniversary. The record is set to be released on November 12, and features Elden’s image uncensored.

Prior to its announcement, Elden expressed that he wanted the ‘Nevermind’ artwork altered for any future re-releases. “If there is a 30th anniversary re-release, [Elden] wants for the entire world not to see his genitals,” his lawyer, Maggie Mabie, told The Associated Press.

Dave Grohl discussed the lawsuit last week, saying in a new interview: “I don’t know that I can speak on it because I haven’t spent too much time thinking about it. I feel the same way most people do in that I have to disagree. That’s all I’ll say.”

The drummer (and current Foo Fighters leader) had previously hinted that Nirvana could indeed change the album’s artwork in the future, saying he had “many ideas of how [Nirvana] should alter that cover”.

Kanye West Recruits Justin Bieber & Roddy Ricch To Power Halloween Sunday Service

Kanye West’s Sunday Service returned on Halloween afternoon (Oct. 31) at an undisclosed sun-drenched rooftop location for a special performance which was streamed live on the Triller and Fite TV app for $10.

It’s the first Sunday Service to connect West — who legally now goes by Ye — and his fans via live stream since the release of his 10th studio album Donda, which arrived in August.

Yeezy and the Sunday Service Choir elected to go with matching white linens for their costume of choice as the sermon kicked off around 4 p.m. ET. Spotted behind Kanye mixed in with the Choir were both Justin Bieber and Roddy Ricch.

They kicked off with a gospel rendition of Donda’s “No Child Left Behind” before moving into other standout cuts from the project taking on West’s late mother’s namesake such as “Hurricane,” “Moon” and “Pure Souls” with the help of Compton native Roddy Ricch.

Ye then led the charge with vocals from the glorious “Come to Life,” which he even apologized for forgetting some of the lyrics mid-performance.

A children’s choir made a guest appearance in mini-white cloaks to match the rest of the Choir’s ensemble. The group of talented kids performed Donda’s “Jesus Lord” and put a religious spin on Kanye’s 2007 hit “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.”

The Sunday Service Choir took the wheel back to move into a joyful edition of the Lauryn Hill-sampling “Believe What I Say” and “New Again.”

Marilyn Manson was also seen in attendance on the livestream. The controversial musician is facing multiple allegations of sexual abuse and contributed vocals to Donda’s “Jail.” Manson even made a surprise appearance at the Chicago Donda listening party in August.

Others present for the star-studded Sunday Service performance included Big Sean, who recently announced his departure from G.O.O.D. Music, and Raphael Saadiq.

The sermon was finished off cleansing the souls of listeners and those on hand with the soothing “24.” Kanye West headed out of the picture as the performance came to a close after lasting for about an hour.

While the Jesus Is King era might be done, Sunday Service looks to be a staple for the long haul in West’s creative universe.

Franz Ferdinand hint at imminent release of new material

It appears that Franz Ferdinand are gearing up to start their sixth album cycle, with teasers pointing towards the release of a new single tomorrow.

READ MORE: Alex Kapranos tells us what’s next for Franz Ferdinand

Thus far, the band have posted two cryptic teasers to their social media, both linking fans to a mailing list. The first arrived last Saturday (October 30) with the caption, “Don’t forget the best bits.” It accompanied a 15-second video comprising monochromatic clips slicked over with a CRT filter, its visuals including a bottle of wine being shattered, a time-lapse of watch mechanism and a guitar being strummed.

Especially notable is that the song soundtracking the video doesn’t register with Shazam, but can identified on Spotify under a new artist The New Scottish Gentry. There, as Dork reported last week, you’ll find a 37-second track also titled ‘Don’t Forget The Best Bits’, with cover art matching a postcard that known Franz Ferdinand fans had received.

Take a look at Franz Ferdinand’s teaser below, then hear an extended preview of ‘Don’t Forget The Best Bits’:

— Franz Ferdinand (@Franz_Ferdinand) October 29, 2021

Another teaser was posted to the band’s socials late last night (October 31), this time accompanied by the sound of a clock ticking. Spanning just eight seconds, the new video features imagery of a man suddenly losing his eyeball and staring into a cracked mirror, with the same clip of a boot stomping as is seen in the first teaser.

Although this teaser doesn’t offer a new preview of the song, it does come with a caption reading “November 2”, implying that the new song will see its full release tomorrow.

Take a look at the latest teaser:

When NME caught up with frontman Alex Kapranos last July, he told us he was “focussing more on Franz Ferdinand”, but noted: “I made a rule with myself after our third album that I would never say too much about it beforehand.

“What happens is that when you write and develop songs, it’s not a straight path. I did an interview before our third album [2009’s ‘Tonight’] where I described it as ‘extremely pop’ – but then we totally veered away from that. All I’ll say is that we have songs and I really enjoy playing them!”

If ‘Don’t Forget The Best Bits’ is indeed released tomorrow, it’ll come as the first Franz Ferdinand song not to feature founding drummer Paul Thomson. The longstanding sticksman left the band last month, writing in a statement that his run was “like a dream”.

Thomson’s replacement was named as Audrey Tait, who made her debut appearance with the band at a Balmain fashion show in France on September 29.

Franz Ferdinand released their fifth and latest album, ‘Always Ascending’, in 2018.

The Nike Kyrie Infinity (AKA Kyrie 8) To Release In Multi-Colored Camo Patterns

A brand new colorway of Kyrie Irving’s upcoming signature shoe has emerged with a multi-colored camouflage pattern seen on the engineered mesh on the upper. Above the mesh shell is a leather overlay and tongue in university blue and black, while purple lines the interior of the model. Unique stitch embroidery on the heel likely signifies an important aspect of Kyrie Irving’s life, while his insignia appears on the tongue via a metallic frame.

Some other interesting details have emerged regarding the name of the model. Apparently this fresh new silhouette will be referred to as the Nike Kyrie Infinity as the number 8 also matches the infinity symbol. Adding more dimension to the profound nature of the model is an alternate interpretation of the number 8 also appears on the right tongue.

Currently, a release date for the Kyrie 8 aka Kyrie Infinity is not known, although retailers have marked a November 20th release date (not this color). Regarding this particular pair, full family sizes are expected. Stay tuned for additional details and we’ll update you as we learn more.

Rüfüs Du Sol Shines Atop Australia’s Albums Chart With ‘Surrender’

Rüfüs Du Sol powers to No. 1 on Australia’s albums chart with Surrender (Warner Music), for the electronic trio’s third leader.

After collecting ARIA Award nominations last week for best group and best dance release, Rüfüs Du Sol’s new LP debuts at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

It’s the followup to Solace which reached No. 2 on the Heatseekers Albums chart and the ARIA Albums Chart. Previous efforts Atlas (from 2013) and Bloom (2016) went to No. 1 in Australia.

To nab the best-selling album in the land Down Under, “honestly, it’s mind-blowing,” comments the act’s drummer James Hunt.

“To have been pipped at the post and debut at No. 2 with their last album, it makes this No. 1 debut even sweeter,” adds Dan Rosen, president of Warner Music Australasia. This leader “cements this incredible band as one of the great Aussie bands of the modern era,” Rosen continues. “We can’t wait to have the band back in the country soon for their amazing live show.”

The Sydney outfit, currently based in the U.S., shaped Surrender during lockdown stints between Joshua Tree and Los Angeles.

North American tour dates in support of the new album kicked off over the past weekend, and, in the weeks ahead, include a pair of headline shows at Banc of California Stadium in L.A.

Thanks to Rüfüs Du Sol’s hot start, Elton John arrives at No. 2 with his collaborations project The Lockdown Sessions (Mercury/Universal).

It’s the Rocket Man’s highest debut for a studio album in almost 30 years, since The One also blasted to No. 2 back in 1992.

Meanwhile, Lana Del Rey scoops her seventh ARIA Top 10 album, and second this year, as Blue Bannisters (Interscope/Universal) bows at No. 3.

Homegrown rockers The Screaming Jets roar into the chart with All For One (rooArt), returning at No. 4 following the release of its 30th anniversary edition.

Finally, British pop-rock veterans Duran Duran enjoy their highest debut in more than 35 years, as Future Past (BMG) enters at No. 16. The follow-up to Paper Gods (No. 19 in September 2015), Future Past is Duran Duran’s 15th studio album and features production from Erol Alkan, Giorgio Moroder and Mark Ronson, plus assists from the likes of Blur’s Graham Coxon, David Bowie pianist Mike Garson and Japanese band Chai.

Duran Duran haven’t appeared this high on the ARIA Albums Chart since Arena, a live album which included a single studio cut, “The Wild Boys.” Arena peaked at No. 8 in December 1984.

Over on the ARIA Singles Chart, Adele’s “Easy On Me” (Columbia/Sony) secures a second week at No. 1, while Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd bag the latest frame’s highest new entry, with “Moth To A Flame” (Universal). It’s new at No. 8 for the reunited EDM act’s first ARIA Singles Chart entry in almost a decade.

Donald Glover shares ‘Atlanta’ season three teaser video

Donald Glover has shared a one-minute teaser clip for the next season of Atlanta, set to arrive next year.

On Twitter, Glover tweeted ‘happy Halloween’ with a link to gilga.com, which is only accessible if the device’s system time is set between 8pm-3am.

READ MORE: How Donald Glover’s surrealism makes ‘Atlanta’ a work of art

The website leads to a teaser video of Atlanta’s third season, which features shots including a trashed room, an alleyway, an emergency exit sign in Hungarian and Paper Boi sitting at a table, overlaid with a chorus chanting, “it’s after the end of the world, don’t you know that yet?”

ATLANTA IS BACK!!!! pic.twitter.com/KlNYV7yb2G

— Lozza⁷ (@lozzawayne) November 1, 2021

Atlanta’s second and most recent season aired in 2018. Earlier this year, it was confirmed by FX chairman John Landgraf that the third season would arrive in the first half of 2022.

“We haven’t locked down the scheduling for season three yet. It has finished shooting. It shot primarily in Europe, actually, and it’s in post-production. But it is a lengthy post-production process on that,” Landgraf told The Wrap.

“And part of the reason it’s like this is because they’re actually in production right now on season four in Atlanta. And all of the scripts for season four have been written. I absolutely adore those scripts for both seasons.”

Glover also shared an on-set photo during filming back in April to mark the first day of shooting.

The Nike Air Force 1 “Crater” Returns With Pink Stitched-In Swooshes

Due in part to the “Toasty” and “Next Nature” collections, Nike’s numerous “Crater” offerings have quickly been pushed to the wayside. But thanks to this Air Force 1, the pack seems to be making a sudden return.

And this is not without a couple tweaks. The Swoosh, for starters, is no longer overlaid; instead, it’s stitched down at all sides and filled not with leather but a textured pink mesh. The more robust material does appear throughout the upper, however, its panels rendered in both a light grey and white. Additionally, every piece is newly arranged in order, progressively going up a layer from the toe. Then, once we reach the heel tab, the circular design logo is put on display, raised with every part clad in Grind Rubbers.

Enjoy a close-up look at these below. Sizes should appear on Nike.com and select retailers soon.
