Nike Air Max technology has been instrumental for the brand since debuting in 1987. To celebrate its 35th anniversary, the Swoosh has prepped a special Air Max Day 2022 lineup, which includes an iridescent Nike Air Max 1.

Previewed by Instagram user @wideawakearthquake, the newly-surfaced pair indulges in a clean ensemble. The majority of the Tinker Hatfield-designed upper and sole unit boast shades of white or off-white, though greys and navy enter the mix across the shoe. Overlays along the tongue and around the heel introduce a color-shifting detail to the original Air Max silhouette. The iridescent touch has certainly been employed for the technology’s 35th birthday, with the “3.26” date landing on the tops of both shoes’ tongues, but it also seems to celebrate Paris, the city of light. Akin to the limited-edition box they come packaged in, the sneakers feature “La Ville-Lumière” text on the sock-liners, which speaks to the French city’s reputation of being well-lit; references to “Spring 2022” and March 26th – the date on which the Air Max 1 debuted in ’87 – are also stamped onto the insole. Lastly, the celebratory offering arrives with a series of metallic silver charms in the shape of an Air Max sneaker, swoosh logos and more.

No firm Nike SNKRS release date has been disclosed by the brand, but that’s likely to change in the coming weeks. In the meantime, enjoy an early-look at the Air Max Day 2022 Air Max 1 ahead.
