Music Tectonics has unveiled the full schedule and list of speakers for its hybrid 2021 music tech conference, which is slated to run from Oct. 25-27 online and at an in-person gathering in Los Angeles on Nov. 2.

Highlights of this year’s lineup include a fireside chat featuring former Spotify economist Will Page and music consultant Vickie Nauman, and another featuring Twitch vp and head of music Tracy Chan; a closing panel with Instagram’s Perry Bashkoff, YouTube Music’s Sanjay Amin, Bose’s Matthew Neutra and Pandora’s Angela Abbott; lightning talks with AdRev, BandLab, LANDR and LyricFind; and panels with executives from companies including TikTok, Roblox, Reddit, Warner Music Group, Atlantic Records, AEG, Secretly Canadian and more.

For the online portion of the third-annual assemblage, Music Tectonics will continue leaning into the capabilities of the virtual space by hosting two innovative features that were first introduced at last year’s conference, which was held entirely virtually and drew over 800 attendees. The first, a 15-minute “Chatroulette-style” speed-networking session that will be held between every panel, allows guests to randomly connect with one another in short five-minute bursts.

The second returning feature is an expansion of something the conference road-tested for its closing party last year: Degy World, a metaverse-inspired virtual expo hall and instrument demo stage that will house the conference during the second half of each day. Utilizing spatial audio, the virtual space will see ticket holders attend as customized avatars, with the ability to have one-on-one conversations in private sitting areas, visit company booths in a virtual trade hall, drive boats and climb a lighthouse “to take in the view,” among other features.

Also set to return is “Swimming with Narwhals,” the music tech startup competition that debuted at the 2020 conference. Presented with BandLab, this year’s winner will be offered a $50,000 investment.

The in-person Nov. 2 meetup will take place at the carousel at the Santa Monica Pier (an indoor/outdoor venue to help ensure safety), followed by drinks at a nearby rooftop venue. Attendees at that gathering will have the opportunity to partake in IRL speed-networking on the carousel, while also going home with a “set of conversation-sparking Seismic Shift Trading Cards,” which were first introduced at Music Tectonics’ debut conference in 2019.
