In court documents obtained by Billboard on Tuesday (Oct. 26), Stephen Walter, the man responsible for supplying Mac Miller’s drug dealer with counterfeit oxycodone pills that killed the rapper in 2018, has pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of fentanyl. According to prosecutors, Walter, 48, faces up to 20 years in prison.
Two other men, Cameron James Pettit and Ryan Michael Reavis were charged in connection to the death of Miller and pleaded not guilty. The trial begins March 1, 2022.
The documents state that Walter “knowingly and intentionally directed Ryan Michael Reavis to distribute fentanyl in the form of counterfeit oxycodone pills, to Cameron James Pettit. [Walter] knew that the pills that he directed Reavis to give to Pettit contained fentanyl or some other federally controlled substance, and at all relevant times intended for Reavis to distribute the pills to Pettit.”
According to the plea agreement, fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol combined to cause Miller’s fatal overdose. “M.M. would not have died from an overdose but for the fentanyl contained in the pills that M.M. had received from Pettit on September 4, 2018,” the document notes. While Walter pleaded guilty to the one count of distribution of fentanyl, his charge to distribute a controlled substance was dropped.
Last week, Mac Miller’s 2014 fan-favorite mixtape Faces landed on streaming services. The project debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
