Jamie Lynn Spears has been denied the opportunity to allow a portion of the proceeds of her forthcoming memoir, Things I Should Have Said, to go to a mental health organization. On Monday (Oct. 18), This Is My Brave — the organization Spears told her Instagram followers she’ll be donating to — revealed that they will not be accepting a donation from her following the backlash her memoir received online.
“We hear you. This Is My Brave was recently recommended to be a beneficiary organization for the proceeds from Jamie Lynn Spears’ upcoming book,” the organization wrote on their Instagram page. “We have made the decision to decline the offer of receiving proceeds from the book sales.” Billboard has reached out for comment.
Spears made the announcement last week on Oct. 11 that she was planning to donate to This Is My Brave in her memoir announcement. “I’m so happy to announce that a portion of my book proceeds will be going to @thisismybrave, because I know how scary it can be to share personal struggles, especially if you don’t feel you have the support or a safe space to do so, and they are doing amazing work to support and encourage people as they bravely share their experiences,” she wrote.
After Jamie Lynn received backlash following the announcement for Things That I Said, sister Britney Spears hopped on Instagram shortly after to joke that she would be publishing a book of her own. “I’m thinking of releasing a book next year,” the “Stronger” singer wrote. “But I’m having issues coming up with a title so maybe my fans could help !!!! Option #1 … ‘Sh–, I really don’t know’ Option #2 … ‘I really care what people think’ !!!!’ What do you guys think ????”
Britney blamed her family for her 13-year-long conservatorship — which saw her personal and financial affairs completely controlled — in a June 23 hearing. The 39-year-old told judges, “I would honestly like to sue my family, to be totally honest with you. I also would like to be able to share my story with the world, and what they did to me, instead of it being a hush-hush secret to benefit all of them.” The pop star later criticized her family in an Oct. 5 Instagram post, and thanked her new lawyer for guiding her through her extensive legal battle concerning the matter.
“If you’re like my family who says things like ‘sorry, you’re in a conservatorship’ … probably thinking you’re different so they can f— with you !!!!” Britney wrote under a photo of a woman diving to save her “divine feminine sister,” and added, “Thankfully I found an amazing attorney Mathew Rosengart who has helped change my life !!!!”
