The recent wave of signature athletes has signified that the future of the NBA is now here. Luka Doncic, Ja Morant, Jayson Tatum, and later Devin Booker mark the latest class of new hoop stars with their own shoes, ready to carry the torch from the existing vets and while ushering the new phase of the business of basketball shoes.

Set to debut in 2023 is Jayson Tatum’s siganture shoe, the Jordan JT1. Since signing with Jordan Brand in the summer of 2019, the Boston Celtics star has seen a steady rise to the top of the ranks at his position, and with his name being thrown into the MVP talks, the arrival of the JT1 could not have come at a better time.

This first look at the JT1 reveals a mid-cut design, with a mesh overlay and decorative heel panel. this particular black/red sees an embroidered pattern on the heel and tongue, while the JT logo — seen on several Air Jordan PEs — appears in gold. The most eye-catching design element is the cored out midsole mimicking the “windows” on the Air Jordan 11 IE Low, exposing the forefoot. The cushioning elements of the JT1 are unknown, although it’s possible that a combination of Zoom Air and/or Formula23 (debuting the Luka 1) could be expected.

The Jordan JT1 is expected to release in several colorways for its debut season, so stay tuned for updates.
