Slipknot concert in Arizona paused after fans start fire in mosh pit

Slipknot fans in Arizona started a bonfire in the mosh pit of their Knotfest sideshow at the the Ak-Chin Pavilion this week.

READ MORE: Corey Taylor: “If I can wear a mask for a two hour Slipknot show, people can wear one for five minutes in a grocery store”

The band were performing ‘All Out Life’ when the blaze erupted on Tuesday evening (November 2), with concertgoers keeping it alive by throwing the venue’s lounge chairs onto the pile. The concert was stopped for 30 minutes while the fire was put out, forcing Slipknot to cut ‘Duality’ and ‘Spit It Out’ from their setlist.

Take a look at some fan-shot footage of the crowd’s mid-pit bonfire below:

Earlier this week, Slipknot teased snippets of what appears to be new music. The previews came via The Chapeltown Rag, an online marketplace for the band’s own collection of NFTs. It came after frontman Corey Taylor confirmed last month that a new album was almost done, with the release of its first single imminent.

Taylor also promised fans some “cool surprises” when Slipknot performs in Los Angeles tomorrow (November 5), which will also be available to watch as a livestream.

“[We] worked on a pretty fucking killer set to put together, which we kind of pieced together over some rehearsals – just kind of trial and error, putting the show together and really got it locked tight,” he said.

The band’s most recent album, ‘We Are Not Your Kind’, was released in August of 2019.

NME gave it a five-star review, writer Jordan Bassett saying that “Slipknot have somehow remained true to their core as everything around them (and even their line-up) has changed”, with the record presenting them “more experienced, equally effective and similarly drunk on rage, self-disgust and lacerating, redemptive nihilism”.

NCT 127 say they don’t want to release music that’s “obvious or familiar”

NCT 127 have opened up about the eclectic and sometimes polarising style of their music releases.

READ MORE: NCT 127 – ‘Favorite’ review: a sweet spot amidst controlled chaos

The nine-member NCT sub-unit recently spoke to Hypebae about the strengths of NCT 127 as a music act and the innovation they bring to the table in the K-pop industry.

“I think our team’s strength is that we’re always taking on new challenges,” said Doyoung. “The fact that we constantly try out new genres is a challenge in itself, and something I feel our fans love about us.”

Jaehyun later doubled down on Doyoung’s sentiment, explaining that one thing that sets the boyband apart from the rest is that “we’re always trying out new concepts and songs, rather than going with something a bit more obvious or familiar.”

This is most evident in the group’s most recent release, ‘Favorite’, which is a repackaged version of their third studio album ‘Sticker’. On the title track of their re-release, Jaehyun also noted that ‘Favorite (Vampire)’ was their first time trying a love song with a tragic bend. “We tried to express this dramatic love in NCT 127’s own way,” the singer said.

Mark added that he was “more excited for the opportunity to show a new side of NCT 127 through this track. It’s a fatal love song we haven’t tried before, and I’m very curious to see what our fans will think.”

During a previous interview with Clash, the K-pop group admitted they “haven’t been able to fully celebrate” the release of ‘Favorite’. “But just from being able to see how far we’ve come is enough to make us happy”.

Beach Ball Bounced From ‘The Masked Singer’

Beach Ball felt flat during Wednesday night’s (Nov. 3) episode of The Masked Singer, when not one but two guests were revealed to hiding behind that massive orb.

Tonight, for it was the “Giving Thanks” episode, it was the turn of Group B’s Mallard, Queen of Hearts, Caterpillar, and Banana Split and a Wildcard entry, Beach Ball.

After rolling in and performing Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA,” Beach Ball was quickly bounced out of the party.

Inside the bubble was a mother-and-daughter duo of reality TV star Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her mom, June “Mama June” Shannon.

It was surely a deflating end for the pair.

They join Rob Schneider (Hamster), Ruth Pointer (Cupcake), Larry the Cable Guy (Baby), Tyga (Dalmatian), Toni Braxton (Pufferfish), Vivica A. Fox (Mother Nature) and Dwight Howard (Octopus) as unmasked celebrities in this 6th season of Fox’s surprise hit.

This reveal did not drop the ball!

Listen to Converge’s pummelling new single ‘Coil’

Massachusetts hardcore outfit Converge have shared a new song titled ‘Coil’, an eruptive new preview from their forthcoming collaborative album ‘Bloodmoon: I’.

‘Coil’ begins with a sparse, hauntingly beautiful melody, upheld by a pulsating bass line, that paves the way for a cataclysmic peak.

Listen to the rollicking track below:

The single arrives a little over a month after Converge announced ‘Bloodmoon: I’, set for release on November 19 via Epitaph (with a vinyl pressing set to arrive on June 24, 2022 via Deathwish). The band’s 10th full-length effort, ‘Bloodmoon: I’ sports input from goth-rocker Chelsea Wolfe, multi-instrumentalist Ben Chisholm and Cave In frontman Stephen Brodsky.

Upon the album’s announcement, Converge shared lead single ‘Blood Moon’. Explaining that song (and the collaborative project at large), frontman Jacob Bannon said: “We wanted to do something grander than the typical four-piece Converge music. Our dynamics are pushing and pulling in all different directions on this record, and I find that to be creatively rewarding.”

The band began working on ‘Bloodmoon: I’ in late 2019. Early demos were spearheaded by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou, producing the sessions from his own studio, God City, in the band’s batting grounds of Salem. As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, however, the album was finished remotely.

John Fagot, Veteran Promo Exec, Dies at 78

Promotion executive John Fagot died Tuesday at the age of 78 following complications from a stroke. Fagot was a beloved executive who worked for Columbia, Capitol and Hollywood Records over the course of his more than 40 years in the industry.

“John was the consummate record man, beloved by everyone in the industry. But he was so much more than that; he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many,” Capital Records said in a statement provided to Billboard. “He played an important role in establishing the legacy of Capitol Records and his contributions will endure. As sad as we are today, thinking of John can’t help but make us smile. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. John will be missed.”

Fagot got his start in the industry in the 1970s working in the mailroom for CBS Records in Atlanta. His career then took him to the role of promotion manager for Columbia Records, serving Atlanta, Dallas and the Carolinas. By 1984, Fagot became Columbia’s national director of singles promotion before being promoted to vp promotion two years later. But the most important thing is the willingness to work. You have to be very dedicated and willing to put in a lot of time and effort.”

In the 2000s, Fagot began working for trade publication Radio & Records as senior director of digital initiatives. He also served as a consultant for peer-to-peer monitoring service Webspins.

U2 are back. The Irish rockers are lending their talents to the animated sequel Sing 2, with the release of their new track “Your Song Saved My Life” on Wednesday (Nov. 3).

The piano-and-strings-driven pop track sees frontman Bono singing about the transformative nature that music holds and pushing through life even in difficult times. “You know your song saved my life/ I don’t sing it just so I can get by/ Won’t you hear me when I tell you, darlin’/ I sing it to survive,” he sings on the chorus.

U2 first teased the song after joining TikTok on Monday, posting an official lyric video snippet of the track and alerting viewers that Sing 2 — in which Bono stars as the reclusive rock star lion Clay Calloway — will be in theaters Dec. 22. “Your Song Saved My Life” will appear in the closing credits of the movie.

Garth Jennings, director of Sing 2, told Entertainment Weekly that Bono was eager to sing on the movie’s soundtrack and didn’t need much convincing. After telling the celebrated rock icon that “some people sing for a living and some people sing to survive,” Bono was game to do a song for the soundtrack. Jennings said he “couldn’t believe [Bono’s] enthusiasm for it,” and added, “The band recorded this amazing U2 song. It’s just full of so much emotion and heart and literally did exactly what he said in that first phone call. It just says, ‘OK, here’s how we want your audience to feel as they leave the cinema.’”

U2 has received two Oscar nods for best original song, for “The Hands That Built America” from Gangs of New York (2002) and “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013). Will “Your Song Saved My Life” become their third Oscar contender? We’ll find out when the 94th annual Academy Award nominations are announced on Feb. 8, 2022.

“Your Song Saved My Life” is U2’s newest offering since April’s The Virtual Road: iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE (Live In Paris) EP. Listen to the track in full below.
