Britney Spears Jokes She Looks Just Like ‘That Girl’ From Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me a River’ Video

Britney Spears is modeling a series of outfits in her latest Instagram video — and she thinks one particular look feels familiar.

The video, posted late Wednesday, sees Spears swapping between a white peasant top, a black lace top, a white skirt and a leopard-print skirt. The singer dons a gray newsboy cap in the new video, and she noted the similarity between her and the woman in Justin Timberlake’s 2002 “Cry Me a River” video.

“Thoughts while making this video … Hmmmm something looks familiar …. The hat …. wait I look…like that girl in the Justin Timberlake video with that hat in Cry Me A River !!!” Spears captioned her post. “Oh sh– that’s ME !!! I’m Britney Spears ??? I guess I forget that sometimes.”

“Cry Me a River” — which was inspired by Timberlake’s breakup from Spears — was released as the second single from JT’s debut solo album, Justified. The song charted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and its music video shows Timberlake breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and casts a Britney look-alike as the ex, complete with her signature newsboy hat and even a matching tattoo.

In February, following the release of Hulu’s Framing Britney Spears documentary, Timberlake publicly apologized to Spears for comments he made after their breakup that were referenced in the film, as well as to Janet Jackson for the aftermath of their infamous 2004 Super Bowl halftime show performance.

“I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed,” his Instagram post reads. “Because of my ignorance, I didn’t recognize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life but I do not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again.” He added, “I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.”
