Debuted in 1988, the New Balance 574 was designed as an unpretentious, super versatile offering. Over 30 years later, the model continues being a go-to option for countless consumers, but it isn’t satisfied with just resting on its laurels.

Special collaborations, limited-edition colorways and dozens of in-house experimentation have delivered more 574s than even the most devout follow can remember, but New Balance has also revisited the sneaker’s design DNA on a handful of occasions, modifying it for current needs. The brand’s latest revisiting of the pair’s blueprint has resulted in a Rugged GTX-variant that doubles down on the silhouette’s trail-informed heritage. Offered in classic “Grey,” as well as more experimental “Madras Orange,” the latest NB shoe features a textile and fabric upper protected by GORE-TEX® technology. The experts on waterproofness stamp their name onto the pair’s lateral “N” logo, replacing the branding hit that traditionally appears on the medial side; tongue labels also nod to the collaboration. Tooling solutions underfoot maintain the Boston-based brand’s tried-and-proven ENCAP midsole cushioning, while tread underfoot arrives with larger, more aggressive lugs to combat the toughest of landscapes.
