Brody Dalle sentenced to 60 hours community service for contempt

Brody Dalle has been sentenced to 60 hours community service for contempt in her court battle with former partner Josh Homme.

Last month (November 19), Dalle was convicted of one count of contempt by a Los Angeles judge for “wilfully” failing to hand her five-year-old son over to former partner Homme as part of an agreed custody deal.

The ruling came after Dalle testified in court in an ongoing criminal contempt trial earlier this month that she tried to convince the couple’s three kids to go to Homme’s house for his court-ordered custodial time on September 4, but the kids “refused”.

Yesterday (November 30), Dalle was sentenced to 60 hours of community service and a $1,000 fine, after Homme’s lawyers asked for a more severe five-day jail term.

“I’m relieved by the court’s decision,” Dalle told Rolling Stone. “I don’t believe anyone should go to jail or pick up trash for protecting her children. “As a mother, I will always put my children first and protect them at all costs.”

Homme was called as a witness to the trial, which began last month (October 29), following his accusation that the The Distillers frontwoman violated an equal custody agreement and was “alienating” Homme from his sons by allegedly not allowing him to see them.

On November 19, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Lawrence Riff found Dalle guilty of contempt for “willfully” violating the court order by not handing the five-year-old child over to Homme on September 3.

However, she was acquitted of the same charge relating to her and Homme’s 10-year-old child, who the judge said made his decision to not want to see his father of his own volition. Dalle was also found not guilty of depriving Homme of previously agreed FaceTime calls with his children.

As Rolling Stone reports, Homme told the court: “I followed every single order you gave. Why did I do that?”

Judge Riff responded: “I know how disappointed you are, and I know you think this system has let you down.”

Ahead of the trial, the Queens Of The Stone Age frontman claimed that Dalle did not let him see their sons, who are aged five and 10, despite court orders allowing him to do so. Dalle previously pled not guilty to the contempt charge and denied Homme’s allegations, with her lawyers reportedly claiming that she had tried to convince the elder son to visit Homme, but he refused.

At the end of September, the couple’s daughter had her restraining order against Homme extended until at least November. Homme is required to keep a distance of at least 100 yards between himself and his daughter, and will not be allowed to make any contact with her.

Watch Glass Animals’ blissful cover of Lorde’s ‘Solar Power’

Glass Animals have covered Lorde‘s ‘Solar Power’ for Radio 1’s Live Lounge – watch the performance below.

READ MORE: Glass Animals: “Everything that made me who I am was taken away by the accident”

The Oxford band took on the title track from the New Zealand singer’s recent third album, as well as playing their own tracks ‘I Don’t Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance)’ and ‘Heat Waves for the session.

For the ‘Solar Power’ performance, Glass Animals were backed by a number of backing singers and turned the baggy acoustic song into a danceable number, as Griff also did recently, while backed by a big red sun on a screen.

Watch the three performances, including the ‘Solar Power’ cover, below:

Glass Animals recently made chart history with ‘Heat Waves’, which reached Number 10 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 for the first time last month, having spent 42 weeks on the chart.

It’s the longest climb to the top 10 in US chart history – beating American Idol winner Carrie Underwood, whose 2006 single ‘Before He Cheats’ took 38 weeks to reach the same position.

The single’s slow-burning success has been attributed to an increase in popularity on TikTok. Earlier this year, fans shared video clips on the platform based around the ‘Heat Waves’ line, Sometimes, all I think about is you“.

Back in September, Glass Animals returned with a new single called ‘I Don’t Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance)’ – their first release since last year’s ‘Dreamland’.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the track, frontman Dave Bayley explained: “Talking is great, don’t get me wrong. But this pandemic has made so many of us look inwards in a way we maybe haven’t before.

“The uncertainty in the world and the inability to go out and create new memories makes you dig deep into the past. It really fed people’s deepest insecurities and rattled our foundations in so many ways. Relationships changed, friendships altered, and self-confidence was warped.”

Taking fourth and fifth place are Pop Smoke, Lil Baby and DaBaby collaboration ‘For The Night’ and The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’, the latter of which was released in 2019.

Additionally, BTS’ May 2021 single ‘Butter’ also made it onto Apple Music’s most-streamed songs list, comes in at Nuremberg 21, between ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’ by Masked Wolf and Lil Nas X’s ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’.

Listen to Dave Grohl’s smooth cover of Barry Manilow’s ‘Copacabana’

Dave Grohl is keeping the momentum going for his second annual Hanukkah Sessions, today offering a smooth rendition of Barry Manilow‘s ‘Copacabana’.

Released as part of he and producer Greg Kurstin’s ongoing series where they cover Jewish musicians every day of the Festival Of The Lights, the Foo Fighters frontman dons a sequined smoking jacket for his cover of the ’70s classic.

“Barry Pincus – not only one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th (or any) century, but a mega-mensch to boot!” a tweet from Foo Fighters read, along with a video of the cover.

“So, like a good neighbor, you deserve a break today. So grab a bucket of chicken and let’s get stuck on…”

Grohl and Kurstin’s Hanukkah Sessions, launched last year, lasts for eight consecutive days, with a different cover being performed each day. So far this year, they’ve given renditions of Lisa Loeb’s ‘Stay (I Missed You)’ and the Ramones’ ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’.

Acts Grohl and Kurstin have covered as part of the series last year include DrakePeaches and Beastie Boys. On the final day of last year’s instalment, the Foo Fighters frontman shared a cover of The Velvet Underground’s ‘Rock And Roll’ alongside a caption explaining what the series meant to him.

“As 2020 comes to a close and another Hanukkah ends (my first!) I am reminded of the two things that have gotten me through this year: music and hope,” he said.

“This project, which initially began as a silly idea, grew to represent something much more important to me. It showed me that the simple gesture of spreading joy and happiness goes a long way, and as we look forward, we should all make an effort to do so, no matter how many candles are left to light on the menorah.”

Foo Fighters have just announced a US stadium tour set for 2022, though have already had to change their Minneapolis venue due to the original venue not complying with the band’s COVID-19 safety requirements.

Listen to Band Of Horses’ new single ‘In Need Of Repair’

Band Of Horses have shared their second single of 2021, entitled ‘In Need of Repair’.

The track, released today (December 1), was premiered by Zane Lowe on his Apple Music radio show prior to its official release. It follows on from the release of ‘Crutch’ earlier in the year.

Both songs will feature on ‘Things Are Great’, the band’s forthcoming sixth studio album which is slated for a January release. It will arrive five-and-a-half years after their previous album, 2016’s ‘Why Are You OK’, marking the longest gap between Band Of Horses albums to date.

The band have shared a lyric video for the single, which depicts a man sitting by the fire with his dog while writing out the words of the song in permanent marker. Watch the video below:

The album marks the first appearances of bassist Matt Gentling and guitarist Ian MacDougall on a Band of Horses record. Gentling had previously played with the band in 2007 as a touring musician, but rejoined as member in earnest circa 2017. MacDougall, meanwhile, was also brought in that same year as a replacement for previous guitarist Tyler Ramsey.

To support the release of ‘Things Are Great’, the band will tour through Europe and the UK in February and March of 2022.

Mary J. Blige teases 14th studio album: “It’s gonna blow everybody’s mind”

Mary J. Blige has spoken about her as-yet-untitled new album, projected for a 2022 release, in a new interview.

READ MORE: Soundtrack Of My Life: Mary J. Blige

The album, which follows 2017’s ‘Strength of a Woman’, was teased on Blige’s recent appearance on the talk show Tamron Hall. Speaking with eponymous host Hall, Blige claimed that the new material she was working on was amongst the best of her 30-plus-year career.

“Wait ’til you hear it – it’s gonna blow everybody’s mind,” said Blige.

“It’s something I had to do, and something I had to say, when I was in my darkest moments… [I had] to build myself up to this person that I can see and accept my nose, accept my eyes, accept my cheeks… accept all the things that I used to hate.”

Watch the full interview with Blige below:

Earlier this year, Blige released a tell-all documentary with the title of Mary J. Blige’s My Life, produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs and named after her breakthrough 1994 album.

She has also been announced as one of the performers at the 2022 Superbowl half-time show, joining the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre on the line-up.

She has, however, turned down an appearance on the web series Verzuz, which pits two artists’ best songs against one another. “Right now, it’s not something that’s on the top of my list,” she told The Breakfast Club back in June.

Splendour In The Grass Sets Stacked 2022 Festival

After missing two full years due to the pandemic, Australia’s Splendour In The Grass is upping the ante for its 2022 edition with a bill featuring Gorillaz, The Strokes, Tyler, The Creator and scores more.

The lineup of international talent includes Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Glass Animals, Liam Gallagher, Kacey Musgraves, Duke Dumont and Yungblud, while homegrown heroes include Violent Soho, DMA’s, Tim Minchin, The Jungle Giants, Mura Masa. Amyl & The Sniffers, Genesis Owusu and Confidence Man.

Next year, the popular mid-winter festival returns to its regular home and timeslot, at North Byron Parklands from July 22-24.

“We want to express how deeply grateful we are to our Splendour community for sticking with us during what has been an intensely challenging time for our team and for the whole of the live music industry,” say festival co-founders Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco in a statement.

“Your support means the world and we’re so excited to be heading back to Parklands with you all for one next level reunion.”

To describe the past couple years as an intensely challenging time is an understatement.

The popular outdoor event was initially announced for July 2020, then, due to the health crisis, those dates were shifted to October 2020, then July 2021, November 2021 and now July 2022.

When this year’s July show was scrapped, organizers shifted gears and used that timeslot to launch Splendour XR, a two-day virtual music festivals featuring more than 50 artist performances. Splendour XR was built alongside Linden Lab, the American digital entertainment developer that’s best known for building Second Life. But it wasn’t the real thing.

Splendour 2022 will be staged like a regular, pre-COVID festival, in the dreamy east coast town that is Byron Bay.

Since its first edition back in 2001, SITG has hosted a who’s who of international stars, from Coldplay to Arctic Monkeys, Kanye West, Tame Impala, Lorde and many more. It’s one of the most popular camping fests on the calendar, and the only major event of its kind to be held during the coldest months.

Tickets for SITG 2022 go on sale next Monday, Dec. 6 via Moshitx.
