Watch nine-year-old Maya Neelakantan thunder through Tool songs in new medley

A nine-year-old girl has shared a video of herself thundering through a medley of Tool songs – on a guitar  gifted to her by Adam Jones.

READ MORE: Drummer Nandi Bushell’s greatest cover songs

Similar to music prodigy Nandi Bushell, Neelakantan was gifted a Gibson Les Paul by Adam Jones after she was spotted by the musician earlier this year.

Neelakantan played a 15 song Tool medley on the guitar, playing parts of ‘Intension’, ‘Vicarious’, ‘7empest’, ‘Right in Two’, ‘Invincible’, ‘Lost Keys’, ‘The Patient’, ‘Pneuma’, ‘Descending’, ‘Pushit’, ‘Eon Blue Apocalypse’, ‘Third Eye’, ‘Wings for Marie’, and ‘Parabol/Parabola.’

Check out the clip in full here:

In a description accompanying the clip, Neelakantan wrote: “What I like the most in this is how each song connects nicely to the next one and it’s not random!

“This is a completely thought out video and I had such a blast with it! … I just love everything that Adam Jones does! This video only explored the clean (without distortion) melodies that he created and I can’t wait to explore everything else even more!”

Meanwhile, last month, Nandi Bushell shared a video jamming with her younger brother to Rage Against The Machine‘s 1992 classic ‘Killing In The Name’.

Bushell posted the cover on Sunday to Twitter and Instagram. In it, the 12-year-old wunderkind shreds on guitar while younger brother Thomas plays drums. “A family that Rages together, stays together!” Bushell wrote on social media when sharing their rendition.

She went on to say that she had been teaching Thomas about “all the greatest rock and metal bands”, and that Rage Against the Machine were at the top of the list. Tagging RATM’s Tom Morello and Brad Wilk, she added: “You guys are awesome! Thomas is really getting good!”

Some of Bushell’s covers this year have included renditions of Ed Sheeran and Bring Me The Horizon‘s ‘Bad Habits’Jimi Hendrix‘s ‘Little Wing’ and John Coltrane‘s ‘Mr P.C.’ She also joined Foo Fighters onstage at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in London earlier this year, accompanying them to play ‘Learn To Fly’.

Recently, Guillermo del Toro delivered the first review of Avatar: The Way Of Water, calling the imminent sequel “a staggering achievement”.

The Way Of Water comes just over 13 years since the original Avatar, which first hit screens on December 10, 2009. The sequel is due out on December 16 and like the first film – as well as the series’ next three films in active development – was written, directed and produced by James Cameron.

Del Toro tweeted his praise for the film on Twitter, writing that it’s “chokefull of majestic vistas and emotions at an epic, epic scale”. He went on to describe Cameron as “a master at the peak of his powers”.

Cameron recently described the film’s production cost as “very fucking expensive”, while industry experts have estimated its budget to be somewhere between $350million (£292.4million) and $400million (£334million), easily making it one of the most expensive films of all time.

Jeff Tweedy honours Christine McVie with acoustic cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Little Lies’

Jeff Tweedy has paid tribute to Fleetwood Mac’s late singer and keyboardist Christine McVie, covering the band’s 1987 track ‘Little Lies’ during a show in Michigan.

READ MORE: Christine McVie, 1943-2022: an eternal songbird

Tweedy performed at Three Oaks’ Acorn Theatre in Michigan last Friday (December 2), where his cover of ‘Little Lies’ was the sixth song on his setlist. The track itself was co-written by McVie and her then-husband, Eddy Quintela, and first appeared on Fleetwood Mac’s 14th album, ‘Tango In The Night’.

Have a look at some footage of the cover, as well as the full setlist, below:

McVie died on Wednesday (November 30) at the age of 79. It isn’t yet known exactly how she passed, however in a statement, her family explained that it came “following a short illness”.

McVie was widely seen as one of Fleetwood Mac’s most integral members. She served three stints with the band – first from 1970 to 1996, then 1997 to 1998, and finally from 2014 until her death. In that time, she performed on 13 of the band’s 17 studio albums.

Other artists paying tribute to McVie have included bandmates Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, as well as Bill Clinton, Haim, LCD Soundsystem, Harry Styles, Keith Urban and many more.

Nick Carter says Backstreet Boys support following death of brother left him “very emotional”

Nick Carter has opened up about how “very emotional” he felt after the Backstreet Boys supported him following the death of his younger brother, Aaron.

Aaron died suddenly at his California home last month (November 5) and the Backstreet Boys recently paid tribute to the late singer during a show at London’s O2 Arena. At the gig, the band played an in memoriam video of the singer during their performance of ‘No Place’.

Now, in a new interview with Extra, Nick has opened up about how much the support of his band members meant to him following Aaron’s death.

“It was very emotional for me, having my guys with me,” the musician star told Extra about going back on stage for the first time since the death of his younger brother.

“That night, it was tough to get up on stage. There’s the old saying ‘the show must go on.’ That’s been with us for years, but that night, I didn’t know what to expect, I didn’t know what was going to come from it, getting on that stage. Getting the reaction from the fans, it was definitely comforting, and it meant a lot to me.”

During their show at London’s O2 Arena, which took place the day after Aaron’s death, the band’s Kevin Richardson said: “Tonight, we’ve got a little bit of heavy hearts because we lost one of our family members yesterday.

“We just wanted to find a moment in our show to recognise him…he’s a part of our family. We thank you guys for all your love, all your well wishes and all your support.”

Nick shared a personal tribute to his late brother on the same day, writing in a statement: “My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded.

“I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.”

Nike’s “Athletics East” Collection Set To Debut In Early 2023 With The Air Max 90

During their days under the Blue Ribbon Sports banner, Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman anticipated the declining notion of jogging within the States as amateur runners struggled to finance their own training and travel for competitions outside of their University-sponsored events. Combatting the latter with Athletics West, a rag-tag group of 12 amateur runners – including Steve Prefontaine – broke multiple world records alongside achieving a gold medal while redefining the country’s definition of competition and the state of running.

In celebration of the group’s formation, the latest Nike Air Max 90 is set to begin a new seasonal in-line collection for next year titled “Athletics East”.

Centering its crisp white base layer in a doubled-up mesh construction, colorless matches render themselves across the tongue and laces while a grey nubuck overlay and mudguard create a murdered out aesthetic with its matching midfoot Swoosh. Directly underneath a darker grey affixed with a slight navy undertone envelops the “AIR MAX” branded midfoot panel in tandem with its quarter overlay while luminous “University Blues” lay claim to the horizontally ridged eye stays. Underfoot, the clad white midsole comes branded with “NIKE ATHLETICS EAST” in tandem with further denotations adorned at the tongue tab and insoles while its dark grey tread concludes the pairs design elements.

While we sit tight on further release details expected to be announced in early 2023, enjoy official images of the Nike Air Max 90 “Athletics East” below in the meantime.

The Nike Air Force 1 Sculpt Does Its Best “Courir” Impression

Considered by many to be one of the greatest constructions to lay claim to the Nike Air Force 1, Courir’s 2002 take on the 40th anniversary silhouette continues to live on in legend. The latest sculpted effort for the pair however, is choosing to enact is own ensemble akin to the France-based storefront’s iconic color blocking.

Enveloping the entirety of the pair in tumbled leathers, a pitch-dark black shading enacts a near-clad composition amidst the silhouette’s retooled upper, rendering a jet-black color-match across its tongue, laces, fuzzy sock liner and metallic dubrae. Breaking up the monochromatic scheme, “Sail” shaded Swooshes are cut out to reveal a brightened contrast amidst the brand-less tabs of the upper whereas its sole unit finishes the simplified pair in a vintage-hued midsole in tandem with the 2000’s staple of a gum tread.

While we sit tight on further release details, enjoy official images of the Nike Air Force 1 Sculpt “Black/Gum” below in the meantime.

$UICIDEBOY$ & Germ Say That “My Swisher Sweet, But My Sig Sauer”

If you’re at all a fan of Memphis rap and the more hardcore side of trap music, you’ve definitely heard of $crim and Ruby before. Last time we covered them on HNHH, they dropped their raucous album Sing Me A Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation. Now, $UICIDEBOY$ released “My Swisher Sweet, But My Sig Sauer” with Germ as the lead single to their collab EP, DIRTIESTNASTIEST$UICIDE.

Moreover, this would mark the end of the collaborative trilogy between the duo and Germ, who is signed to their G59 label. Their last efforts were DIRTYNASTY$UICIDE in 2016 and DIRTIERNA$TIER$UICIDE in 2017. As such, fans of those projects have been waiting for a while. Finally, the third installment will drop on December 16th. Just like the last projects, will be entirely produced by $UICIDEBOY$ member $crim. Germ had actually teased this third EP in our interview with him a couple of years ago.

MY SWISHER SWEET, BUT MY SIG SAUERhttps://t.co/KX2QbkLOxM

— DIRTIESTNASTIEST$UICIDE (@SUICIDEBOYS) December 2, 2022

Also, this has been a big year for the New Orleans duo. Not only did they drop a well-received album, but they were the 27th most streamed artists in any genre this year according to HITS MAGAZINE. They garnered more streams than heavy-hitters like Jack Harlow, Tyler, the Creator, and Travis Scott. Sing Me A Lullaby topped the Billboard Rap Album chart and got to No. 7 on the genre-less Billboard 200.

“My Swisher Sweet” sticks heavily to the Memphis sound that $UICIDEBOY$ are known for. It’s what led to the massive success of projects like Long Term Effects Of SUFFERING. Various distorted synths provide some creepy counter-melodies to the main keys, and the bass is overwhelming. To match the energy, members $crim and Ruby da Cherry deliver relentless and charismatic verses with wild delivery. It samples DJ Paul’s 1994 banger, “Glock N My Draws.”

Germ opens the track up with a nasal and aggressive flow. What’s most impressive is how he switches between topics while sticking to the same rhyme scheme. On the other hand, $crim comes through with a more measured delivery that’s more menacing than raging. He references Glock .45s, the Eastern bloc, the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans, and their collabs with Germ. Additionally, Ruby finished the track with confidence, bringing back some of that hyped energy while still sounding measured.

You can check out $UICIDEBOY$ and Germ’s “My Swisher Sweet, But My Sig Sauer” on your preferred streaming service. Also, peep some notable bars from the track below.

Official Images Of The Jordan Legacy 312 “Year Of The Rabbit”

Tapping the full breadth of its lifestyle-centric propositions, Nike’s celebration of Chinese New Year is already in full swing with a duo of Nike Dunk’s and a pair of Air Force 1’s set to debut the celebratory rotation. In conjunction with last year’s appearance, the Jordan Legacy 312 is now dawning its own outfit akin to the Year of the Rabbit.

Near identical in its color-blocking compared to 2021’s effort, a crisp white base layer at the leather midfoot panel and mesh collar brightens the overall proposition in tandem with a “Sail” tinted vamp, laces and tongue trim. Slightly darker cream hues additionally lay claim to the Swooshes, midsole and AJ 4-inspired heel counter affixed with golden yellow branding. Elsewhere, the mainstay shade of light olive begins its dominant introduction along the mudguard, forefoot strap, midfoot eye stays and its upper ankle overlay which indulges in a golden debossed winged insignia. Underfoot, the tonal spectrum begins to shift, remaining disparate with an elephant print panel connecting to grey and brown heel clips which conclude with a clad-chocolate tread.

Embroidered at the interior of the tongue with a red and gold rabbit graphic, enjoy official images of the Jordan Legacy 312 “Year of the Rabbit” below while we anticipate further release details.

PUMA Recognizes LaMelo Ball’s Rookie Of The Year Campaign With The MB.02

While a pair of ankle injuries have hindered LaMelo Ball’s widely-anticipated follow-up to his Rookie of the Year campaign, PUMA too is taking its time delving out their lone signature athletes series of silhouettes, now centered on a celebration for #2’s historic rookie campaign.

Employing a simplified yet boisterous trio of tones, the accent of its MB.01 “Buzz City” construction is extended across the entirety of the pair’s base layer, color-matching its luminous teal blue at its mesh tongue construction and sock liner. Royal Blue hues then build out LaMelo’s signature wings on the exterior side panel whereas its medial side proffers a crisp white contrast that further sets down a two-lined trim throughout its laces. “ROTY” lands at the base of the lacing system while the tongue and heel counters branding finishes with dark blue detailing.

Set to release this Friday, December 9th for a retail price of $130, enjoy official images of the PUMA MB.02 “ROTY” in the meantime.
