Metro Boomin Finally Drops Sophomore Album “Heroes & Villains”

It’s been a long time coming but finally, Metro Boomin unveiled his sophomore album, Heroes & Villains. The St. Louis producer dropped off his latest body of work in its entirety this morning following an impressive rollout.

The 15-song effort finds Metro reuniting with his frequent collaborators while also enlisting new ones. John Legend, A$AP Rocky, and Morgan Freeman set the tone with the luscious intro track, “On Time” before Super Future emerges alongside Chris Brown for the second track, “Superhero (Heroes & Villains).” Future make frequent appearances across the tracklist, including two collabs alongside Don Toliver. 21 Savage and Travis Scott also make just as many appearances, and even collide together on “Niagara Falls (Foot Or 2).”

In addition to the aforementioned collaborators, Metro Boomin recruits Young Thug, Gunna, Mustafa, The Weeknd, Gunna, A$AP Rocky, and Mustafa. The late Takeoff also makes his first posthumous appearance alongside Rocky on “Feel The Fiyaaaah.”

The “Tuesday” producer’s latest project followed an impressive rollout. In the past few days, Metro shared a short film to accompany the project starring Lakeith Stanfield, Morgan Freeman, Young Thug, and Gunna. Then, he linked with Spotify to place his hologram in Miami and LA where he was making beats live.

Metro’s latest album comes four years after the release of Not All Heroes Wear Capes. His last album included a star-studded tracklist including Drake, Swae Lee, J Balvin, Gucci Mane, and more. Though fans waited a minute for Heroes & Villains, he did reunite with 21 Savage in 2020 for Savage Mode II.

Ticket to ride? National Rail responds to viral Paul McCartney ‘complaint’

National Rail has responded to a viral ‘complaint’ about Paul McCartney taking a customer’s reserved seat on a train.

On Wednesday (November 30), the No Context Brits Twitter account – a satirical celebration of “all things great about Britain” – posted an image of the former Beatles musician sitting in a First Class carriage.

The accompanying caption read: “Hello, @nationalrailenq. This man is sitting in my reserved seat and refuses to move, saying he has a ticket to ride. Please investigate.”

No Context Brits’ complaint – of course – references The Beatles’ 1966 single ‘Ticket To Ride’, which is credited to Lennon–McCartney. The tweet has since registered over 126,000 ‘likes’, and been shared more than 7,600 times.

Yesterday (December 1) National Rail’s official Twitter feed re-tweeted the meme. “Hi @NoContextBrits, we investigated your below query however, the person in question has made it very clear that he don’t care,” they said, making a nod to the song in question.

That post has gone on to receive 119,000 ‘likes’ and has been re-tweeted 13,000 times. See both tweets below.

The interaction inevitably prompted numerous puns in the replies. “Did he get a return or just a Day Tripper?” one person said. Another wrote: “Was this Yesterday?” A third user posted: “Oi…leave it yeah, just let it be.”

Per The Mirror, the image of Macca on the train was taken in London and first surfaced back in 2017. He was said to be travelling from the capital to Hastings in the small First Class carriage.

A passerby explained at the time (via indy100) that McCartney “was on his own without any bodyguards or staff”.

“Only a few people stopped to say hello and that it was nice to see him,” they continued. “He didn’t want photos, but he was very polite and happy to chat, talking about a new album he has coming out.”

Last month saw McCartney announce a new career-spanning vinyl boxset, ‘The 7″ Singles’. It boasts 163 tracks overall, totalling 10 hours of music from the musician’s half-century as a solo artist.

McCartney released his 18th and latest solo studio album, ‘McCartney III’, in December 2020.

Over the summer, Paul McCartney played a mammoth headline set at Glastonbury Festival 2022.

Lana Del Rey teases album announcement for next week

Lana Del Rey has teased that an album announcement could be coming next week.

READ MORE: The NME Big Read – Lana Del Rey: “I give myself permission to have a lot of colours”

In a snippet of an interview with HOLA TV that’s currently circulating online, the singer says: “I won’t tell you when it’s coming out, but I can tell you I’m making an announcement about it on the 7th, so what do we have, a week? Seven days? I’m very excited.”

The ‘Summertime Sadness’ singer’s last album ‘Blue Bannisters’ came out in October last year, which followed March’s ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’.

Mostly recently, the singer featured on Taylor Swift’s ‘Snow On The Beach’ from new album ‘Midnights’ released last month. She also covered Father John Misty’s ‘Buddy’s Rendezvous’ in June this year.

In a four-star review of ‘Blue Bannister’s, NME described the singer’s eighth record as “one that subtly responds to her critics” in which her voice has “never sounded better”, also describing it as a “defiant and delicate return”.

Earlier this month, Del Rey alerted fans that her car was targeted by thieves for a second time this year, when her backpack full of tech containing several of her forthcoming projects was stolen.

In a message shared to followers of her private Instagram (but uploaded to YouTube by a fan), the artist explained that she had her car broken into when she’d “stepped away [from it] for a minute”, returning to see all of the windows broken and her backpack missing. “Inside of it was my computer and my three camcorders and my harddrives,” Del Rey said, noting that she was forced to remotely wipe her computer.

Elsewhere, a Lana Del Rey course was recently launched at New York University.

Jacqui Abbott has pulled out of three headline shows with Paul Heaton under doctors’ orders.

“We’re really sorry to say that following doctors medical advice Jacqui will sadly be unable to perform in Bridlington [December 1], Glasgow [2] and Stockton [3] shows this weekend,” a statement on Heaton’s Twitter page read.

“We look forward to Jacqui rejoining the tour soon and we will keep you up to date with her progress. In the meantime, Paul & the band look forward to putting on a great show for you all tonight and at all the shows this weekend!”

Fans who would prefer not to attend in light of the news can claim a refund at their point of purchase prior to the gig taking place. You can see the message in the below tweet.

In a later post, Heaton said: “For those who choose to retain their tickets for the next three shows, I promise you that myself & the boys will put on a show to remember.

“We’ll sorely miss Jacqui but our intent is to make those who refund their tickets bitterly regret that decision Thanks for your support .”

You can see the remaining tour dates below, and find any remaining tickets here.

DECEMBER

03 – Stockton Globe, Stockton-on-Tees
05 – Portsmouth Guildhall, Portsmouth
06 – Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham
08 – Resorts World Arena, Birmingham

Back in October, Heaton announced that he and Abbott would be capping the price of tickets for their current UK tour at £30 amid the cost of living crisis (via Manchester Evening News).

“It’s really important through the coming months and possibly years that we tell the fans that we’re getting paid enough and we want to keep it low for you,” he told the BBC. “I think people are delighted.

“I’m very much against greed within the industry because I feel as though there is quite a lot. We’re trying to just battle and say look we’ll do it as low as we can. And you know… set a bit of an example.”

Earlier this year, Paul Heaton spoke to NME about how he and Jacqui Abbott had played a number of free concerts for NHS staff as a thank you for their efforts throughout the COVID pandemic.

He also discussed giving away free pints at 60 UK pubs to mark his 60th birthday, and why he thinks the Royal Family should be privatised.

Kanye West Claims He Caught Kim K In Bed With Chris Paul

Kanye West was making headlines yesterday for all of the wrong reasons. By now, you are probably aware of the fact that Ye was on InfoWars with Alex Jones and Nick Fuentes. Subsequently, he offered up some ridiculous soundbites that included “I Like Hitler.” He also referred to himself as a Nazi.

Needless to say, Kanye is completely off the deep end right now. It is extremely difficult to come back from statements like this, and at this point, people couldn’t care less about a potential redemption story. Currently, we are witnessing one of the biggest falls from grace in history.

Kanye West Exposes Chris Paul

Additionally, Kanye West was on a bit of a Twitter spree last night. Among these tweets was a Star of David mixed with a Swastika. Ye knew he was about to be suspended, so he decided to unleash one final bombshell before being nuked from the website.

In the tweet down below, Kanye posted a picture of none other than Chris Paul. The caption to the post read “let’s break one last window before we get outa here. I caught this guy with Kim, good night.” Yes, that’s right. Kanye just accused Kim K of sleeping with Chris Paul.

Of course, this is a significant revelation as Paul is currently married. Making this kind of accusation could immediately blow up his marriage, although Ye does not seem to care. Either way, this completely came out of nowhere, and you can just imagine how shocked people were.

Overall, this was definitely a smokescreen for some of the insanity he spewed yesterday. Regardless, Ye made quite the impression before Elon Musk ultimately pulled the plug on someone who was supposedly one of his best friends.

Iggy Pop praises “incredible style” and “colour” Taylor Hawkins brought to new album ‘Every Loser’

Iggy Pop has paid tribute to Taylor Hawkins by praising the “incredible style” and “colour” the late Foo Fighters drummer brought to his forthcoming new album ‘Every Loser’.

READ MORE: The NME Big Read – Iggy Pop: “I assumed things would quiet down once I turned 65. That hasn’t been the case”

Speaking to NME in this week’s Big Read cover interview, the punk icon praised the numerous musicians who contributed to the new record – which is out January 6, 2023 – including Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers and former guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Blink 182‘s Travis BarkerPearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard and Jane’s Addiction’s Dave Navarro and Eric Avery.

He also spoke in detail about what Hawkins – who died while on tour in Bogotá, Colombia in March – brought to tracks ‘Comments’ and ‘The Regency’.

“Taylor came in with incredible style,” the artist recalled.

“I’m very fortunate to have that colour on the record. I was really sad and shocked to hear about him. I happened to know that hotel where he was. I’ve stayed in that town. The whole thing was something else. He did have a wonderful career doing what he wanted to do, and by all accounts, a good life.”

“He drums up a storm on those tracks, and you can really hear it,” he continued. “He has this sort of bubbling quality, it’s really percolating.”

Pop recently opened up about how he “never really understood” what the Foo Fighters did, until he saw them live in 2015.

Elsewhere in his NME interview, the singer praised Italian rock provocateurs Måneskin, who he leant vocals to on a new version of their track ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave’.

“That’s a really strong band,” he said of the four-piece who’ve often cited him as their inspiration for starting a band.

“Damiano [David] is an amazing singer and the bass player, Victoria [de Angelis] really handles that position well and doesn’t overplay, but on stage and in their videos, she really stays with the message. Wooo, she’s a firecracker.”

He also likened their guitarist Thomas Raggi’s playing to “somewhere north of Joe Perry”, calling their drummer, Ethan Torchio, “clever”.

“I read an interview that said they started out busking on the street in Rome and had to fight other groups for good positions,” he continued. “You can tell they have that background, that they’ve done something together where they got a little taste of poverty and obscurity, and I think that gives them a really nice edge.”

Earlier this month Iggy Pop announced an outdoor headline concert in London for next summer – any remaining tickets can be found here.

SZA has shared the official cover artwork for her second studio album ‘S.O.S.’ – check it out below.

READ MORE: SZA – ‘Ctrl’ Review

The R&B singer is due to release the long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s ‘Ctrl’ this month, but has not yet confirmed an exact date.

This week SZA took to social media to post the upcoming record’s front cover, which sees her sporting an ‘S.O.S.’-branded St. Louis Blues hockey jersey while perching on a springboard over the ocean.

As Pitchfork reports, the aforementioned sports team subsequently responded to the nod on Twitter.

Announcing the album last month, SZA said she was “currently stressed” over the impending deadline for the project and elaborated on the “red tape” that comes with its release.

“I could literally burst into tears and run through this wall at any moment,” she wrote. “I am effectively falling apart.”

The singer also discussed the delays that have surrounded ‘S.O.S.’, citing her grandmother’s struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, her touring schedule, and COVID as reasons for the postponements.

SZA shared the single ‘Shirt’ back in October, before posting a sultry ‘PSA’ teaser video last month.

Earlier this year, SZA revealed that she had written 100 songs for her new album, adding that it could be released “any day” although she previously said she was in no rush to drop it.

SZA will serve as the musical guest on tomorrow night’s episode (December 3) of Saturday Night Live, with US actress Keke Palmer on hosting duties.
