Lucki takes us back to his Chicago roots: The FADER x WAV Present Frequencies

In the latest FADER x WAV Present Frequencies mini-doc, Lucki drives us through his hometown of Chicago. “If I’m doing nothing, this is where I do nothing at, you know?” he says, from his friend’s stoop. “I don’t like doing nothing too many other places.” It’s clear that regardless of where his career goes, LUCKI just wants to keep it in the family.

Kamaiyah – “Fuck It Up” ft. YG (Official Music Video)

She doesn’t need an introduction — Kamaiyah is the driven and lovable ’90s baby who wrote “Why You Always Hatin?” (a single for her mentor YG that also features Drake) and released a damn-near perfect debut mixtape back in the spring.
Today, she shares a new video for “Fuck It Up,” produced by The FADER and directed by Chris Simmons. Made while cruising around High Street in Oakland, its convocation is recited by Shay Diddy of local institution KMEL, and its conclusion finds everyone invited to mob in the parking lot — her childhood Big Money Gang Crew, and hella babies too.
Taken from A Good Night In The Ghetto and co-starring her boy Keenon, “Fuck It Up” is a got the devil in my cup celebration of having made oneself, and of shining so hard that you can ignore calls from anyone who lies.
“The ‘Fuck It Up’ video was about bridging the Bay to L.A. gap,” said Kamaiyah, who moved from Oakland to Los Angeles in the past year. “I wanted to bring the Town out in a positive way and to have fun. I think we were successfully able to convey the message.”

Abra – Pull Up (Official Music Video)

Abra comes alive in a new self-directed video for “Pull Up.” In the video, filmed in New York’s Bushwick and Harlem neighborhoods, the enchanting Awful Records pop-R&B singer lets go for a risky night of adventure.

A car pulls up, Abra leans in the passenger side window, and she and a friend hop in. The track itself sets up this scene, when she sings, Pull up to your crib riding shotty, shawty — the ladies are in for a ride. Later, in a room under blue lights, Abra and two friends pour back drinks and when the buzz hits she finds herself siting on a four wheeler, facing the driver. He speeds off with the front tires in the air, and as Abra smiles at the freedom of making uninhibited decisions, her gold bottom grill sparkles under the street lights.

Naira Marley x Olamide x Lil Kesh – Issa Goal (Official Music Video)

Naira first emerged on the U.K. scene with “Marry Juana” in 2014, a lilting summertime bop using clever wordplay to extoll the virtues of weed. Since then, he’s put out a steady stream of tunes straddling both London and Lagos. His latest single, the delightfully joyous “Issa Goal,” has spawned thousands of videos of fans doing the shaku shaku. The track features guest verses from Nigerian stars Kesh and Olamide, and is something of an official-unofficial anthem for Nigeria’s soccer team as it prepares to compete in this summer’s World Cup. Its video, debuting today on The FADER, is a beautiful, green-and-white celebration in the metropolis of Lagos.

Stream / Download: http://smarturl.it/knk-cura

Canadians Tory Lanez and Keys N Krates teamed up for the track “Music To My Ears” back in February, for the electronic group’s album Cura. For the video, directed by Nathan Boey, they appeared as puppet versions of themselves. Puppet Tory Lanez tries to juggle multiple relationships with non-puppet women and it doesn’t go too well for him. All the puppet men dance around in the new video, which is premiering exclusively on The FADER.

This program is funded by FACTOR with the support of the Government of Canada and Canada’s private radio broadcasters.

How Kenny Beats became a go-to for hip-hop’s new generation: The FADER x WAV Present Frequencies

Whether you’ve seen Kenny Beats in person, on social media, or through his hit YouTube show The Cave, he’s always got the attitude and demeanor of someone who knows how to have a good time. He’s great at creating one, too: as a producer for artists like Vince Staples, 03 Greedo, Rico Nasty, JPEGMAFIA, Key!, Freddie Gibbs, and many more, Kenny Beats has been a key player in rap’s new generation.

The latest FADER x WAV Present Frequencies mini-doc reveals how he got there. Behind his success is his management and creative collective D.O.T.S. Together, they’ve made The Cave a massive success, thrown sold-out rap shows across the country, and worked on documentaries and music videos. The wisdom offered by D.O.T.S. begins with the name, an anagram of “Don’t Over Think Shit.”

There’s no goofing off in the doc. Filmed over a day in Los Angeles, Kenny links up with Zack Fox for tacos and records an episode of The Cave with Danny Brown. But it’s not “work” per se, and that’s a key to Kenny’s success: “I just think of myself like, how can I alleviate all of the tension that this person is facing when they make music, so that when we make music, it’s fun.”

21 Savage & Metro Boomin – “Feel It” (Official Music Video)

21 Savage is best known for his gritty street tales, as heard on beloved cult mixtapes like last year’s The Slaughter Tape and Slaughter King. In recent months, he’s also become known for his meme-status dagger tattoo, inked on his forehead in memory of a fallen friend. But on “Feel It,” the slow-burning, love-and-loyalty anthem taken from Savage Mode, this summer’s collaborative project with Metro Boomin, 21 Savage is another man entirely. I’m a savage to these niggas but to her I’m gentle, he raps over a sedate beat, co-produced by Metro and Zaytoven. “I wrote something that street niggas can relate to. At the end of the day we all wanna go home to someone loyal,” he told The FADER.

Today, 21 Savage & Metro Boomin are sharing a romantic video for the song, produced by The FADER and shot between East Atlanta’s Zone 6 and on the city’s south side. In the clip, it’s love at first sight for the young rapper, who goes about winning a beautiful woman’s affections after glimpsing her with another man. Soon, the pair is cuddling and cupcaking, as his love interest, played by Kat Amour, joins him on his usual endeavors of counting stacks of cash in bed and cruising through the city.

Watch the video above. And if you’re in New York, check out Metro Boomin and 21 Savage live on November 4 at a special concert called Young Metro Don’t Trust Trump. All proceeds from the show will go towards a scholarship fund established by Metro to send a St. Louis student to Morehouse College every year.

Playboi Carti – Everything You Need To Know (Episode 40)

“We made a song and it was very lit,” Playboi Carti told us of his collaboration with Frank Ocean. “I don’t know if the world is gonna get it, though.” After meeting Raf Simons at his New York Fashion Week presentation, the Atlanta upstart stopped by The FADER office to share some lesser known facts about himself: like how he was really ballin’ in high school and what it was like to take his dad to Mansion Elan. He also sets the record straight: it’s Playstation over XBOX. Watch the interview above.

Drake – Obey Your Thirst (Episode 1)

Drake is a superstar—the only guy who could dethrone Taylor Swift on the charts with a mixtape. In a rare interview, he spoke with The FADER.

Coming up in Toronto, people told Drake to move to New York if he was serious about making it. Instead, he stayed where he was and made history by proving that if you’re a truly multi-layered artist, you can make it from anywhere. “Do it the way I did it,” he says in the above Obey Your Thirst documentary. “Do it from where you’re at. If you have the music, that’s all it takes.”

Now, at the top of his game, Drake says he competes not with established legends or other top-sellers, but with the countless kids itching to take his spot.

Now that hip-hop’s playing field is more open than ever before, Drake knows
there are countless kids itching to take his spot. Those up-and-comers are now his competition, not any established rapper. “That’s how I try to keep pushing this forward,” he says. “Just to let that kid know that I’m not done yet.” Watch the full documentary above, and stay tuned for three more by Sprite and The FADER, sharing the stories of Nas, Vince Staples, and Isaiah Rashad.

Sampha – “Plastic 100°C” (Live Performance)

Sampha details his debut album, and all the learning and personal trauma that accompanied its creation, in a new The FADER cover story, to be published on The FADER today at 10 a.m. EST.

“Plastic 100°C,” a beautifully raw song about pressure, is one of that album’s highlights. Its chorus refers to feeling like plastic melting in the heat, and one of its verses hints at the source of the discomfort Sampha describes: Usually I’d run home/ And tuck the issue under/ Oh/ Sleeping with my worries/ I didn’t really know what that lump was/ My luck.

Here, Sampha plays a singular acoustic version of that song. His performance was captured in one beautiful take at dusk, on the rooftop of his label Young Turks’s London office.

“There’s a lot I see, feel, really want to express,” Sampha tells The FADER. “I think that’s part of the thing, like — I feel so much.” In his most in-depth interview to date, he opens up about the journey he’s been on, the music he’ll be releasing, and his hopes for the future. “I wanna make things feel more magic to me, like how I felt when I was younger. When you grow older, you try and work harder to find the magic in life.”

SuperM want their own ‘Avengers’-style movie

When you’re in a band as large as seven-piece K-pop behemoth #SuperM, some arguments are bound to come up. So you can imagine the (supremely entertaining) disagreements that arose when we quizzed them for the latest episode of Would You Rather? We subjected Ten, Baekhyun, Lucas, Taemin, Taeyong, Kai, and Mark with some classics (would you rather a SuperM video game or SuperM film, for example) as well as some weird ones, and definitely sparked enough conversation to carry them through to the end of their world tour in February.
