Rapper Gee Money Shot & Killed In Baton Rouge

22-year-old rapper Gee Money, otherwise known as Garrett Burton, was reportedly shot dead in Louisiana early Sunday morning.
The Baton Rouge native was reportedly leaving a studio session in his hometown when an unknown assailant approached the rapper and shot him in the head. Baton Rouge police told local news affiliate WBRZ that Burton died at the scene of the crime.

There are currently no details about possible suspects, and the majority of the reaction centered around loss of life, rather than pointing fingers at potential suspects. Hip-hop fans mourned the loss of a young talent, unsettled by how much life he had ahead of him before the tragedy.

Those unfamiliar with Gee Money’s musical output might know him from his beef with up-and-coming rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again, f/k/a NBA Youngboy. The two Baton Rouge natives exchanged words on wax and through YouTube videos, and the late Gee Money explained that while they were once cool, some personal drama between the two was compounded by the rise of YoungBoy’s star.

“He used to be like my little brother, he stayed with me and everything,” said Gee Money. “Everything was still all good until he started doing his own thing, getting a little buzz, getting a little money, he just got a big head … He mad about his sister too though, I fucked her a long time ago.”

You can watch the video for Gee Money’s “Take It There” above, which is one of his popular songs.
